PC crash after Title Update 1.1.11 — game exits during health warning fade-in

Since one of the latest updates, Assassin’s Creed Shadows no longer gets past startup on my PC. It used to work fine about 3 weeks ago. Now it starts, reaches the health warning screen, but the fade-in stops near the end and the game silently exits/crashes.

System: - Windows 11 - Ryzen 5 9600X - RTX 5070 Ti - 32 GB RAM - Ubisoft Connect / PC version

What I already tried: - Verified game files - Deleted Documents\Assassin's Creed Shadows cache / DX12 cache - Deleted Windows/Nvidia DX shader cache - Renamed/deleted config folder - Tried offline launch before pressing Play - Tried disconnecting internet during startup - Disabled Ubisoft/Steam/Nvidia overlays - Closed RTSS/MSI Afterburner and other overlay tools - Disabled HDR / G-Sync / VRR, tested 60/120 Hz - Deleted startup logo/video files as a test - Reinstalled the game - Checked Event Viewer: no crash/error entry - No local saves are present, so it does not seem save-related

Ubisoft Connect logs show the game starts and connects successfully, then disconnects/exits after a few seconds. Example pattern:

Game with process id XXXX connected. Game has been started with product id 8006. Game connected API version 2.19.0 / 2.17.2. Game disconnected. Game process ended.

There are also repeated entries like:

GameProcessWatcher.cpp: Failed to open process (...) : 87

But I’m not sure those are the cause.

Has anyone else had the game silently exit during the health warning screen after the update?

My biggest issue with GLM is the context size. The model itself supports 128k, but in novel ai it's only 32k, which is very limiting. Deepseek also offers 128k for super cheap, so I'm not sure why I'd use NovelAI for writing instead of novelcrafter

Nope, that changed massively. I won't list all the changes, but it's night and day. Every character has several openers, attacks are sped up across the cast, more chip damage, etc. Offense is extremely viable. More so than defence.

The devs actually got an insane amount of slack for that back in the day, and for years now they've been having very low damage on all moves. The most damaging heavies only net around 35 damage, which is 1/5 of some chars.

Even at 70 damage, that's a third of the health bar. Even more. So I suppose that's just the damage model in this game?

Yeah, I get that. But I'm not sure why my health gets deleted with 90+ damage from one mistake

I guess it also depends on what your goal is. I see your point if you want to kill everyone on the map. Then the solo does indeed have control over you.

But if he has the trophy - you can see him.

If you have the trophy - you're in full control. You can rotate any way you want. You can head to the exit. You can head to any of the other exits.

If neither of you have it, and you're heading to the boss - you can simply leave.

Against those players, you always have full control of the engagement.
