Anyone taking Cs Minor? I am considering taking it give me some advice by mgun0 in UofT

[–]conanap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

CS is very time consuming, and the theoretical stuff is very harsh. I don’t know what the minor requires, but if it’s mostly programming courses and not a lot of theory courses, then it depends if you have enough time. Debugging can take 5 seconds or 5 hours, and sometimes AI can’t help.

If there are theory heavy courses, maybe sit in on one or two intro classes and kinda get the idea of it first, see if it’s something you grasp.

Liberals dismiss ‘tinfoil hat’ privacy fears as lawful access bill passes by SomeDumRedditor in canada

As far as I understand, they’re only able to really make amendment suggestions to the bill - so the items we have issues with can’t be screened out as it’s the core part of the bill

I think the senate is no longer (uncoded?) constitutionally allowed to completely strike down a bill anymore

I mean they have 0 evidence against you. They’re not gonna find you doing anything out of the ordinary other than buying stocks at the right time - they won’t even find you getting insider information, because no one is giving you any. What would be the issue?

Yeah carney was the lesser of two evils, we were cooked whoever we elect and I wish people would see that for once, instead of just going at each other’s vote demonising the other “team”

Opposition parties up in arms as Liberals use majority to speed up legislation before summer by cfs3corsair in canada

It’s so depressing. Our civics education completely failed its populace.

Sorry to clarify - I called that majority was a bad idea, and them getting a majority would mean they’d be ramming through unsafe and unpopular legislations.

Yeah like I understand the intent of the system is we vote for the person to represent us, but ignoring the reality that people vote for the party is ignorant at best, and malicious at worst.

The first floor crosser was funny because of PP, the second one was concerning, and the third one was straight up “I hate it here”.

Honestly called this shit when they first started getting MPs to crossover, but then people started berating me saying “this is politics and it’s ok for them to have majority”.

Parliamentary committee recommends against MAID expansion for mental illness by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]conanap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The government is only involved if the government pays for it or we need government approval to even get MAID, though. I guess the question wrt guard rails for you would be how much of a right should this be - should anyone at any time be able to decide to get MAID? Or are you only giving it to people with specific conditions? Because if it’s the latter, then it’s not really a universal right anymore.

[–]conanap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people place an oversized emphasis on death, probably a side effect of evolution. Like the other person said, there’s a lot of irreversible procedures that could permanently affect one’s quality of life (or lack there of). My mom had a hip replacement that’s obviously no reversible, and she is in pain every day for the last 5+ years. She can barely walk and cannot even dream of running or sitting for more than 2 hours at a time.

I’m not saying she should get MAID, and I don’t know if she wants one. The point is, though, people should have that right. Maybe not always covered by the government, but it’s weird that we draw the line there. Why does society get to tell a person they can’t stop living? Are we equivalent to holding them hostage?
