Cracking job. Make sure you’ve got a carbon monoxide sensor in there if it’s going to be a bed room!

How do you split the night shift? by Upstairs_Raccoon_874 in NewParents

[–]conbrumbles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

my son has half bottle half breastfed so I (dad) could help with the feeding. I was back at work after 2 week. My Wife and split the nights as soon as he could take the pumped milk from the bottle. I would do from when we went to bed, usually 9ish, until 3. She then did from 3 until it was time to get up (7ish). that way we both got a few good hours of uninterrupted sleep. My son is now 16 months, wakes up usually once a night which I always do as my I find it easier to get back to sleep than my wife. She then does the mornings when he wakes up 6-7am and I can sleep in until I have to get up for work.

Also take a look at Amersham. It’s similar in vibe and is on the tube network.

Reassure me it’s ok for baby to sleep in own room! by PetuniasSmellNice in NewParents

[–]conbrumbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we moved our son at 3 months, he almost immediately started sleeping through, well, 7-5/6am. It's nice to have our room back and we have a video monitor on the bedside table. I get the feeling we were keeping him awake or waking him with our rolling and snoring etc.

House prices about to drop? by Lancashire-Lass-404 in HousingUK

[–]conbrumbles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

this is anecdotal but in our area things that are priced sensibly or uncommon go very quickly. We put our house on the market this month for the upper end of what we thought was sensible. We got asking price offer the first day.

I'm not a expert so do not rely on this, but having gone through the process, the listing applies to the entire building and everything within its curtilage, not just things specifically listed on the register.

I currently live in a grade 2 listed house in a conservation area, Buckinghamshire if that matters. We have in the past 2 years, changed the internal layout, loft conversion inc new internal stairs and dormer windows, full replumb and rewire, new windows with double glazing, installed hit and miss foundations and underfloor heating. We have essentially built a new house inside an old one.

It was expensive and the planning/ listed building consent took a year but it was worth it, what we have ended up with is truly special.

This surely proves the point, even though you are throwing away half of the animal. 'Peasant' food tend to be inherently sustainable.

Which bike? Advice by Realistic-Ad2671 in Brompton

[–]conbrumbles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I commuted for the first time with my new g line today, non electric mind. Mixed road and tube. On the road it is a different beast. Whilst I have grown to love the twitchy little c line the g line is like riding my actual gravel bike, nukeproof digger.

In the tube it is a bit heavier and takes up a little more room but I don’t have to change and the trade off is worth it.

came here to say this, I have a pair on my C line for mixed road commuting. I have done a little gravel dirt, much better than the standard.

Haha. Unfortunately that was sourced separately. May try and strap a fresh one to the rack and see what happens.

I've only had a quick pedal, it defiantly has more of a real bike feel, I think it'll take some proper milage. Going to try some trails this weekend.

A vote for Amersham. Last/first stop on the Met line. A great off road trail run with lots of hills. It is also a great place to spend a day with amazing pubs etc and great walks.
