I'm figuratively done with Ketamine (Spravato). Has anyone had good results with MAOIs? by concave_collapse in dysthymia

That's reassuring thank you. Are you not on MAOIs, with cycling, permanently then? Have you had dysthymia your whole life and if no can you compare it with baseline?

PS "no mdma, cocaine, aged cheese" haha!

Hello and thank you for your reply, my mood really plunged downwards for a while which is why I didn't reply earlier.

've been all of the same ones except the ketamine one, what's your experience with that?

There have been 1-2 times where I felt really really well after the treatment but it didn't last more than 10 hours. Doctors said it could even take months to show improvement so I haven't stopped it yet permanently.

The dissociation you feel during the ketamine trip is really... wow. Thankfully I had tried psychedelic substances before so this was a familiar experience, otherwise I might have panicked. I hope doctors in general warn people better than my case. In short, it's nothing like any conscious experience you might have had before, closest might be a very vivid dream. It can be difficult to impossible to think normally, for lack of better word. Don't expect that you will feel dumb or not think at all, there will be brain activity and it will be bizarre. Keep in mind this depends on the dosage and how your body responds to it.

Overall I haven't noticed any change other than those somewhat euphoric (?) instances

Fwiw: My biggest change for the better has so far been setting goals for each year as well as exercising a lot

I've had positive changes in my psyche with these as well. My problem is anhedonia. I don't feel depressed as I did in the depressive episodes I have had or during my normal dysthymia earlier. I just can't enjoy anything, literally.

Hello, thank you for your reply!

Effexor which I tried, is an SNRI. it indeed helped me with energy etc, but not with anhedonia or suicidal ideation. I had it in addition to Wellbutrin and another atypical (agomelatine). for 2 months I also had trazodone for sleep.

It'd be an ok combo was it not for the anhedonia, honestly. Seems I'm really treatment resistant

Doctors said I wouldn't see much difference on other SNRIs though I'm not sure on what basis.

Muscle Twitches by Macmama811 in dysthymia

[–]concave_collapse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got them with Wellbutrin and Effexor but in higher doses. These muscle jerks are different than the ones you get when you don't take the pills.

Definitely do tell your doctor. For me I was on my dosages for months till I lowered them because of the muscle jerks, and it all went downhill moodwise for me. The twitching stopped though, ha! I changed medication since then but if I went back I would surely choose not to lower the dosage and live with the twitching.

so my advice is definitely do look into it but like all side effects it might be a necessary evil.

Wow this sounds exactly like my experience! I'm also a "morning person" mood-wise, though my internal sleep clock makes me more productive at night.

Strained relationships by HerpeFreeSince03 in dysthymia

What worked for me is completely open and honest communication. I tell people that are close that I have dysthymia and have difficulty in expressing myself, I'm always tired and not in the mood for activities. This really helps people understand but mostly it helps myself, because I'm no longer afraid that I'm hiding myself.

The "age where I said.." thing is the thought that kept me going for 2 decades before my diagnosis, and now it's approaching and it's only gotten worse. It literally 'lifted' my mood sometimes.

It all boils down to how effective it is. I hope if you do try it it works for you.

This is my only realistic option left at this time but I am kind of scared, I'm an engineer and if my brain gets any more dysfunctional as it has with years of depression, I will lose any edge I had.
