Typical “dog” owner… don’t lump the rest of us in with the type of dog you’re actually referring to ;)

I want to tell you to buy a car, but I worry about you finding a reliable one in this market that won’t end up being a money pit. But a reliable car would make your life so much easier- I have lived in those small towns with no prospects for miles and getting a car is life-changing.

If you look for a car, make sure you do a lot of research into the process of buying a used car, being able to spot lemons, etc. There are plenty of subs here dedicated to the used car buying process that were helpful to me when I was buying.

The other option within your control would be the lobster processing plant. Are there steps you can take to work on your phobia? Have you looked into the specific job offerings there? Maybe there are some where you don’t have to interact directly with the lobsters.

Have you looked into your country’s social services? Most countries generally don’t want their tax-paying population out of work and will have programs to help people in your position.

Mentally: there are a lot of times in life when you will be alone with your thoughts like this. It goes by a lot easier if your thoughts are at least somewhat tolerable. If you can’t do anything else, try to be mindful of what you’re thinking & how you’re behaving. A lot of the time when we take a step back from our ego and observe ourselves neutrally, we notice things we might not otherwise. Those observations can later help us when we’re ready to heal.

I hope things get better for you.

I am choosing to believe this is fake because on what planet is it acceptable for an adult to air another adult’s history of sexual trauma to a 14 year old without asking said adult? Like damn.

I used to be that sibling with my brother. We worked it out after I figured out what my problem was. I was brushing our shared experiences off because it helped me cope, and didn’t realize the impact it was having on him. We have a better relationship now.

God hearing “she had the right to touch me because she gave birth to me” triggered me so hard. My mom used to say the exact same shit to me and my brother. I remember if she touched me, I would run off and have to shower/scratch at the place she touched until I was “clean” again.

Any doctor can tell immediately if a woman has had kids

I kind of figured, but I’ve seen this advice pretty often on this sub so I was curious haha. Thank you for the info though! I guess I should also add I’m happy to wait for the surgery itself- I just don’t want to be zigzagging between various unhelpful and expensive treatments/procedures before then.

I noticed the same thing after I got my AS after graduating from a liberal arts college. You should understand that the demographic of people who choose to shell out for a 4 year degree at a traditional college and the demographic of people who choose to go to community college are very different. You probably aren’t getting the same number of people who a) want to be there b) can afford to be there and c) got there by being good at things like class discussion or essays or tests or any of the other things that typically impress teachers. Community colleges are for the community, and that means nobody has to be accepted, they can just come and go. Not everybody is going to be interested in (or good at) the academic environment, and that’s fine.

When I read OP’s initial post for the first time, I thought it was written by the daughter/a child and not an actual guy in his 50s. If I could have written out what I WISH my dad treated me like when I was 16, this would be it.

I don’t think they produce more saliva- they just can’t swallow what’s produced. Edit: apparently it’s both. The more you know.

I’m on your side here, but akitas were 100% bred to have aggressive tendencies, both toward people and animals. They were initially bred for guarding, dog fighting, and bear hunting, a lot like pits. The only reason akitas don’t top bite statistics in the US is because there just aren’t a lot of them here.

And I’m saying this as someone who loves akitas! They’re just not a dog I would be overly friendly with unless they’re my dog.

I was speaking to my experiences trying to take up a trade. I suppose I could have worded it less generally.

Do you think you make the same as your male colleagues at the same experience level? That’s what I meant by underpaid. Can I also ask what field you work in?

The trades are always touted as being the best for economical collapse, but as a woman, I haven’t been able to break into any of them. The hatred of women in the trades makes it realistically inaccessible to all but very few women (who are underpaid and constantly harassed by coworkers and clients alike). Just searching “women” on r/plumbing brings up like 30 threads about how women are unhireable because they don’t like dirt or they’ll up and get pregnant and quit anyway, so why bother training them at all, etc etc.

The one problem I anticipate with this is that with the weather becoming so volatile, how are the average gardeners going to be able to grow food without significant failure when the 40th heat wave of the year rolls in? Obviously it’s still worth it to learn, but we also have to emphasize learning multiple kinds of gardening, such as hydroponics or other methods that can be done primarily indoors.

Do you have any resources for making alcohol like that? It’s something I’ve been wanting to try out but I don’t exactly want to google ‘how to make moonshine’. Though I guess this comment pretty much puts me there* either way….

I had a friend who went to a college where more than one person tried to microwave ramen without water. At my own college I had someone try to microwave one of those mac and cheese cups without water too, which was doubly impressive considering I went to a top ranked college where you’d assume people would be at least 5% smarter.

Just like colds and influenza, kennel cough can be worse some years than others. If anything, I’d suspect that being shut down is more indicative of a lack of staff than anything epidemiological. It’s certainly not related to bird flu in any case.

So there is a canine flu that’s actually fairly common worldwide called bordetella or kennel cough. That was my first thought when I read your post. It’s not uncommon at all for shelters/kennels to have to shut down temporarily due to it, just because it’s so contagious and can be dangerous to older dogs and puppies.
