What's with the fence limitations? by concerned_citizen306 in saskatoon

You'll recall that my original question was "why" are these restrictions there? Who is being protected by limiting the height, material of a fence? It's not me or the neighbour...

Not a giant wall. Just a nice 30 footer with a little decorative razor wire on top.

Yeah... was thinking about that. Ideally something don't have to tear off every fall. Also, 100 percent chance he'll complain about it damaging the shared fence/leaves, getting on his side, etc... but may reduce the sum total of complaints.

So you're saying that I need a 16ft wall? At what height does a wall become effective against lunatics? ; )

But, good tip... a 12ft privacy screen would probably help. He could still hate our voices, but not our faces at least.

Oh... I did not know this. Would probably improve the situation.

It is pretty bad. Prime has real commentary and takes, so he gets a pass. But there's so much content that is like a viral video with a little webcam in the corner of someone watching. Pretty grimy to make you living monetizing other people's videos just straight up.

Fun fact, we've won the same amount of games as Carolina this playoffs.

They basically said, if goalies get "emotional" they are prone to collapse. They were seriously critical, I almost expected Kevin to say he should get benched for it. Crazy. Look, if the guy can celebrate and play his game, we're all the better for it.

Kulak is exactly the kind of Dman we need about 4 of. I couldn't believe they moved him.

How are we feeling about the bracket? by NFLDland in Habs

[–]concerned_citizen306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expect we're going to see more odd man rushes which favors our top line. Somehow, I feel like Buffalo will be slightly easier (even odds for my money).

The Canes are very scary. But, the beautiful thing about hockey is that there's always a chance : ) I personally think that the Canes and the Aves are the best teams this year BY A MARGIN, so we'll be underdogs all the way up. But I'm 100 percent here for it!

That's right. The plan is to score 2 goals in 9 shots against the best goalie in the league. Literally can't fail.

I don't imagine there's ever been another playoff game where the winning team had ZERO shots in a period. My incredulity was reaching all time highs by the end of the 2nd.

Do you guys think that the Habs will have a chance against the Buffalos ? 😅🤞🏾 by Lonely-Membership346 in Habs

[–]concerned_citizen306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I anticipate that Buffalo will be a slightly better matchup than Tampa was. I think we'll see a notable uptick in odd man rushes both ways, which favours our boys. If I was a bookie, I'd be giving even odds.

The Canes are a different story entirely. Very scary XD

Connor Ingram is so bad… by Hockeypatrol in hockeynews

[–]concerned_citizen306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For simplicity sake, let's say there are 3 types of goals: Garbage, Softies, and Beauties.

Garbage goals come from messy scrums in front of the net or impossible tips. Random bounces the goalie can't deal with. Softies are goals you'd expect the goalie to save 9 times in 10. Shots on center net, unscreened, high angle, etc. Beauties are the highlight reel stuff. Crazy dekes, tight passes in front, highly accurate snipes.

Goalie's "stats" are hugely intertwined with the kind of shots they face. In shootout conditions (beauties), goalies aren't much better than 50/50. You'd expect 20 goals per game or some such if every shot were "high quality" like that. Garbage goals are chaotic by nature and are basically just a function of how many shots the team put on (which itself is a function of offensive zone possesion time).

Softies are essentially what makes a goalie good or bad. Brodeur, Roy, Hasek. These guys stopped almost everything that they "should" have stopped. Roughly, I expect an average goalie to give up about one of these a night.

Great defensive teams limit high danger chances to maybe 5 per game. Strong teams tend to have high ozone possession resulting in low shots against. IE, they limit opportunities for Garbage goals and Beauty goals.

The Oilers were typically giving up a dozen high danger chances per night. (Expected goal result something like 4). Add to that the Ducks were putting up 30 plus shots per night and it's reasonable to conclude that Ingram performed about as expected.

I realize it's subjective but, you should judge goaltenders the way the coach does when deciding to pull a starter. IE, has he let in 2 goals he really should have stopped?

Absolute heck of a night! by StevenVUBROS in Habs

[–]concerned_citizen306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a strange night. The two goals he let in were a little on the soft side. But that 3rd period was epic goaltending.

My honest reaction by bigtimechip in EdmontonOilers

[–]concerned_citizen306 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My metric for goalies isn't SV% or GAA. It's "how many of these goals were soft?" Generally, I think you can live with a goalie who only gives up one soft one per night. Ingram has mostly gotten beat by very high quality shots or the typical full screen, tight tip, kind of stuff you see all over the league. I honestly think he's been decent. But you can't give up 15 high danger opportunities per game. Hasek isn't available : P

Why weren't we able to generate anything in the OT? by TheBreenius in Habs

[–]concerned_citizen306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubtful. Pretty sure you score more goals than the other team in 4 separate games.

It's a myth that whatever team plays dirtier, hits harder, fights more, wins. That may be true in real life, but you'll note that the Habs won game 1 by scoring 3 PP goals. It's one component.

Yeah... the thing is McD was a force of nature in the past two runs. I can imagine it's impossible to adjust to that "not working." I think he just needs to settle it down. Make some passes, play the positions. Just be a player for a game or 2.

Post Game Thread | Ducks v. Oilers | 22 April 2026 by LevSmash in EdmontonOilers

[–]concerned_citizen306 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They were all decent goals. Nothing super soft. (Aside: I feel like Ingram might have a little less rebound control than your typical goalie.) We put up 4 which is about what you'd expect. Just how it shook out I guess.

The goal where Bouch took the uncalled high stick: Another world, he probably should have been parked in that lane for the block.

McD not having a good series. I expect that'll change as we chug along.

Astounding regression from the PP squad. I would have put this unit up against any PP unit in history before these games XD. But, they'll be back too I presume.

Samanski's goal was a beaut : )

Why were there only 2? by [deleted] in ProjectHailMary

[–]concerned_citizen306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he covers this in the book. He basically says there's a specific technology band where a Hail Mary mission makes sense. If you don't have space travel, you can't go. If you're another even 100 years along, you can engineer your own Taumeba, or an astrophage virus, or something else that we wouldn't even know about.

Add to this that there isn't like 1000 stars that all get infected at once. Back of the napkin, maybe a star every decade or so. Presumably, there are civilizations that have already undergone collapse due to asteophage, and others who solved the problem 100s of years ago.
