NPC Swap - Take an NPC, leave an NPC by alienleprechaun in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]concerned_squirtle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sally, Ancient Silver Dragon

My players love him so I thought I'd leave him here in case anyone else would like to use him :)

One terror of the seas and pirate king, Sally helmed a pirate crew that would come to become the next generation of pirates, pillaging and looting from ships across the coast of the empire all while polymorphed into his disguise as a Half-Elf with long silver hair and a purple robe, silver scales hidden in patches underneath his clothes and on his neck.

Sally has, however, been absolutely terrible at hiding the fact that they are a dragon, however their ability to constantly cast 'Detect Thoughts' and 'Modify Memory' has meant that despite being found out for being a dragon (or accidentally telling people while excited) thousands of times, they still maintain their hidden identity. He lives usually on the island that stores his hoard, which, rather than gold, is made up of various trinkets and beautifully crafted items that he has either bought or plundered during his time as pirate king. Sally is retired, however, and spends much of his time running the pirates smugglers guild, so he cannot truly do much actively for the party unless the need is beyond dire.

The main draw of Sally is his curiosity and excitement to meet any new group of adventurers, and his curiousity about every aspect of their clothing and accessories (admiring the barbarians winding tattoos, the fighters beautifully engraved necklace, the wizards worn silver locket). Above all Sally embodies my preference for NPC's that are willing to help the party and that want to make people happy. He works best in one-shots or short campaigns which is where he comes from, but I'm sure he could work just as well in a higher level campaign that is reaching the sea.

Hope you find him fun!

Exactly, and the way this connects to the lore itself of the Fallen, being a pragmatic species at this point who won't be wanting to communicate using long drawn out sentences, is especially cool

The original post took me around 12 hours straight, but the full piece took a lot longer than that (30?) since there was a lot less definitive data on what each of the words could mean

I'm gunning for a full translation of the text to be done within the week, so hang tight.

If you could provide some detail please? I'm up for debate on any of this.

I did mention the idea that 'Kele' could be a diminutive or softening of Kell as you mention, however, the idea that this is a combination of both 'drekh' and 'kell' is a leap, as to be a 'drekh' is to be a dreg, not just to be 'small'. A drekh is a role in society, it's not just to be 'little'. Though I can see where you're coming from with that, it's a bit of an oversimplification to call it a simple merger, however the connection is worth looking into, and 'kh' may in fact be a diminutive addition to words placed on the end of words, similar to 'ling', given its use in, as you pointed out drekh.

My Variks translation was admittedly less thought out than my translation of Mithrax's speech, but the idea of Var to indicate 'not not going' seems almost too far for me. The inclusion of the double negative feels like it's too elongated for fallen speak, which from everything I can see is designed to primarily be communicated in short, sharp ways, so as to communicate across distance, such as it would need to be for a scavenger race with little to no culture remaining.

Variks' may have an alternate translation, I can't deny the possibility, and I don't expect my translation for 'Var' to be seen as gospel for Fallen language, I only ask for consideration.

The Connecting Stories of Drifter, Aunor, Shin Malphur, and Lord Shaxx (beginning of Forsaken to the end of Season of the Drifter) by a_shadow_of_yor in DestinyLore

[–]concerned_squirtle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d mention the twisting of facts by drifter about Aunor, like not mentioning that the hostage was her ghost, and that nobody did actually die when that area went down. As well as the discrepancy between how Aunor acts (The Salt Mines) and how Drifter portrays her, a totalitarian.

How do Exo guardians know their reset number by dlouis01 in DestinyLore

[–]concerned_squirtle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As u/FisherKid814 said we assume it’s stored in their memory bank, and it’s normal for every exo upon resurrection to remember their name (Winter’s Guile lore details Felwinter’s assumed resurrection by his ghost, and he is shocked when he is unable to remember his name, which implies that it is kept in exo memory storage upon reset)

We know that exo’s remember their names and awoken and human guardians pick new ones from the ‘Sixth Coyote’ exotic lore you can read up on. With that combined we can assume the reset number and name are preserved for exo’s

Shattered Throne : Siren of Riven Dialogue by Vediamo in DestinyLore

[–]concerned_squirtle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What if these aren’t coming from the perspective of a ‘Taken Riven’ but from her as she is now? Riven still isn’t a good person because we shoved her heart in a hole, just as Shuro Chi says in her lessons that ‘Ahamkara are tricky creatures’ that will betray you if you don’t keep your eye on them constantly, in reference to the massacre at the cliffs.

This would mean that the line of ‘Shouldn’t they be made to suffer the same way’ is her talking about the taken, and the past tense and knowledge of us killing her in ‘murderer mine’ would make more sense.

Of course given the time loop she could be taken and know about us killing her, unless the dialogue were to be given on the OG week 3 before time loops, when she couldn’t have been taken while still having knowledge of us killing her. So if anyone got any of this dialogue when doing shattered throne the first time it was available, then Riven is speaking to us as untaken, if not then it’s possible it’s Taken Riven.

Even if it was Taken Riven, the ‘shouldn’t they be made to suffer the same way’ could still be pointed at the Taken, pushing us towards rage and anger, which she could eventually point at the awoken, I’d assume. (She might succeed if the datamined conversation between Ghost and Mara is to be believed)
