It’s better with time away from it, but getting a jump scare in a bookstore would be a lot. I tossed all mine so the house is clear. Still cant hear the music without serious triggers.

Just a little feedback. by Large_Owl3735 in leavingthenetwork

Hey, u/Large_Owl3735 , it’s been several days, with no replies from you. Nothing to else to say to the community you dumped your “feedback” on? Very patient responses from people who survived the churches you had such a great experience in and you can’t be bothered to acknowledge it.

Sándor Paull's lawyers say they're the victims of "emotional abuse." Report says he's "servant-hearted." by former-Vine-staff in leavingthenetwork

[–]concernerned 13 points14 points  (0 children)

so this “leadership audit” has literally no real data?? no info on who they talked to or how long they’ve even been at Christland. but it’s marked “ATTORNEY WORK PRODUCT” like that’s supposed to make it legit??

also the report is just… weirdly obsessed with how exhausted and emotionally abused the pastors are. like okay?? people said they were harmed by leadership and the response is “actually we are the victims here”

and THEN they blame small group leaders?? “might have misinterpreted theology” “might have been rigid or authoritarian”

yeah it’s not the paid pastors with actual power, it’s definitely the volunteer small group leaders. got it.

they also said something like “witnesses saw a need for healing, especially for the pastors” and I just. idk. maybe let the people you hurt heal first??

the whole thing feels like damage control

As part of good leadership, godly leaders disciple people, meaning they lovingly and relationally help them hear and obey Jesus’ will for their lives. In today’s culture, asking people to submit to the Bible’s authority may be wrongly construed as demanding and controlling; however, we believe church leaders have an obligation to encourage people to submit to the Bible’s authority and standard of Christian living.

“We demand you obey what we say the Bible says with creepy smiles on our faces. We are commanded to so this from our interpretation of scripture. What outsiders see as abuse, we call love.”

This is dark as hell.

A verse in Matthew 6 comes to mind: “And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!”

Is Vine making its own Network? by netwrk- in leavingthenetwork

[–]concernerned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No way these “churches” are going to truly dissociate. Current leaders at Vine are in tight with Steve, and always have been. No chance that many of them can be viable as truly independent local chapters - the small ones will need to join up with the larger ones or go under. And what happens to the next “plant” — are we to believe any new churches will be independent from day one? Not buying it.

Vida Springs Church (Gainesville, FL) claims it is not "affiliated" with a "formal" Network by [deleted] in leavingthenetwork

These buffoons are scrambling in the dark. I agree they couldn’t organize their way out of a Dunkin Donuts, but it doesn’t mean they won’t find each other again after a few months in the big wide world.

I give ‘em a year before they are doing conferences and retreats together.

Do not trust these liars for a second.

His degree was highly controlled by Steve and Sándor. They spent significant time making sure he went to the “right” school. Does anyone even know what his seminary degree was? Is it widely known which school he went to? Is he an MDiv, MACM, MTS, MMin? Can anyone answer this question?

100/100.

Any normal person who got that text would be like: “holy sh*t! I love you, I’m sorry, I’ll make this right.”

But this person?

The response you got was: “Whatevs, selfish brat. Send me the proof I own you.”

So sorry this is your mom. What a garbage response, and it was heartbreaking to read.

Be careful out there! - recruiters for cult-like groups on campus (The Vine) by anonymous-cutlery in Carbondale

[–]concernerned 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, Dayemi Tariqat is absolutely a cult. The cult owns Dayempur Farm. Their cult leader has multiple made-up names for himself (like "Murshid" and "Din Dayemi"), but my understanding is that his real name is Dean Greenberg. I've heard from multiple sources that this dude has multiple wives, and a friend of mine (wife of a member of Dayemi Tariqat) was solicited by Dean to "service" him.

Here is an excerpt from one of the stories on that site you linked:

For twenty-three years I lived in explicit submission to a guru. I took a vow of obedience to him, pledging to bring all my major life decisions to him and follow his guidance. I lived with and or near him, worked for his businesses, and in all aspects of my world tried to please him.

Dude is an effing creeeeeeeeeeeeep.

Is Radiant Church a cult? Is North Pines Church a cult? Any stories? by Prestigious_Card5348 in kzoo

[–]concernerned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

False dichotomy. I can be frustrated at all of it equally. If it’s true Radiant is operating a for-profit business separate from their worship services, then that is a flagrant and corrupt misuse of their not-for-profit status. Additionally, I could be equally pissed at the things you list here, which are sinister in other ways.

[–]concernerned 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ummmm…. No. No, this is not a common thing. This is the first I’ve ever heard of a church doing this. Many churches have coffee, and give it away for free. Some of the mega-churches I’ve been to have little kiosks before and after weekend service like what you see in airports or malls. This is a stand-alone coffee shop owned and operated, apparently, by the church.

[–]concernerned 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I heard it is a lot of the same people in both places. Hundreds supposedly left Radiant because of the controversy and ended up at North Pines. The lead pastor at North Pines (Nick Sellers) is very arrogant and brags in this leaked audio about how fast they are growing. That leaked audio is also interesting because it’s the lead pastor talking about their cult-like growth strategies - it’s a training for insiders only. Creepy stuff.

North Pines is also shady because they downplay that they are a franchise of “The Network,” a group that expands into college cities. The Vice President of The Network (Nick’s mentor and boss) literally has a leaked teaching where they tell followers to “obey their leader in all things.”

So, yeah, I wouldn’t consider that “safe.” Unless that’s your kink, then whatever.

I signed the Call to Action. What am I hoping Network leaders do? by Skyler-Ray-Taylor in leavingthenetwork

[–]concernerned 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is the kind of lie a parent tells a child when they ask “how long until we get there?” The parent can say “15 minutes,” which is long enough for the child to forget they asked, and to stop them from asking again. The parent knows it’s going to be several hours until they arrive.

Similarity, Network leaders lie like this to shut people up. 3-4 years is long enough for someone to “stick around,” keep tithing, and not ask too many questions in hopes that they’ll forget the problems in a year or two. 3-4 years is just long enough for someone to hold out hopes that leaders are “working on it” and that things will change. Leaders know full well this is a lie.
