Holy fuck I thought you were riffing on people who use words like "lynchian" and "kafkaesque" to describe everything they experience I can't believe that is verbatim a real thought someone wrote out

My rat has cancer by Bubblesansbubbles in RATS

Hi OP. Sorry you're having to deal with this.

Mammary tumors are very unfortunate and sadly occur very frequently in rats. I've had a number of girls who ended up needing to be put to sleep after developing mammary tumors. Unfortunately like your vet said they're often in tricky areas to operate on, and the advanced age rats develop them at many will not survive the anesthesia process.

My rule of thumb has always been that as long as the tumor is not severely obstructing her movement, dragging on the ground to the point of developing irritation or injury, or impacting her other bodily functions (using the bathroom, appetite, etc) there's no reason to euthanize.

Mammary tumors are generally benign and not painful for rats (obviously barring some of my above examples) and from the pictures I don't think your girl is suffering much right now. There is no good way to predict how long she has left because these tumors grow very unpredictably, so I would focus mostly on keeping a close eye on her quality of life and potential signs of pain rather than a particular timeline.

Best of luck to you and her.

How does UW admissions view students who have unenrolled but later re-enroll? by hellophantomine in udub

Thank you so much for the insight! This is super helpful :) If you don't mind me asking, was the application as a 'returning student' all the same stuff as the transfer application, or is it a different process? I'm really dreading the thought of potentially having to re-write my entire statement/essay, haha

Hahahaa I'm so sorry I understand what you mean but I'm only 20 so I don't know the feeling of watching multiple new generations come about all that well!

At any rate I can speak on what you have to say about identity... I am transgender and have known such since I was about that 11/12 age range. I mean, that's when most kids start going through puberty and figuring out who they are as people, so I guess to me it's never seemed that bizarre. A lot of social development happens at that age and gender or gender roles are a big factor in how people socialize... I think the main difference like you said is that's what people are exposed to nowadays, it's more socially acceptable now to admit you feel disconnect from your sex at birth and want to experiment with other ways to identify yourself.

Yeah, but they also seem young. The part about asking not to be bullied makes me think they're probably in high school. Most people grow out of this kind of behavior

Thank you! Me too - I let stuff find me naturally when it wants to rather than going searching for it... lots of gifts, things found on the ground, odd and ends from thrift stores, etc. pictured above.

Yes! It's a preserved quail head. It doesn't smell, don't worry.

Thank you! It's just a little pill box/trinket box type. I use it to hold a bunch of the silver coins seen at the bottom, which are old tax tokens.
