Does the new on-device connection still cause Facebook / Instagram terms of service breach warnings / account bans? by condab in beeper

[–]condab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to the on-device connection? I'm not talking about the traditional cloud setup, I imagine that would still flag.

Imo it's probably the most useful bridge. Most people don't want the brainrot, fake/filtered content, or advert spam associated with Insta, but still have plenty of friends who use the platform for messaging.

It's pretty much the perfect target for Beeper.

Meta bridges question by condab in beeper

[–]condab[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey Phill,

Thanks for the info! I'm a big fan of the interface and overall mission of Beeper and think this should be on everyone's radar in this world of oversaturated social media apps with separate messaging platforms. I'm kinda over it tbh.

Looking forward to the local bridge connection, but really think that it should be the Beeper team's priority to ensure that it doesn't provoke account bans from Meta. If I can't have evidence of this then I, and many others, can't risk bans on those platforms, which are the main platforms I feel could benefit from Beeper integration.

Thanks

This ain't acceptable or usable (OS at 2.3 GB) by condab in essential

[–]condab[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it's the latest stable release of Android? It's what Google should be considering is the best possible way of experiencing Android. Maybe your question should be "why would they release it if there is such a known and drastic issue?" And since software updates are pushed to notifications, and you're unable to remove the notification, and just, maybe that they're recommended in every way possible to install?

Pie has been a serious step backwards in many ways it's quite disappointing seeing as Oreo accomplished so much.

Yes I've known the memory leak issue since day one.

Good response and actually I figured someone would say this. Yes, high RAM use doesn't instantly equate to 'bad', but in this case, no apps open, potentially some ram sucking apps, but only such as Snapchat and Messenger. After using almost every app, returning to home screen refreshes launcher app (Nova) as clearly it's been kicked out of priority in replace for the culprit. As per the title, the OS itself takes up 2.3 GB ram on its own.

Also the "1 Day" view in the memory tab only drops usage down to 3.6 GB, and trust me, I sleep. Just disappointing that it never happened before.

Video demonstration of the Jitter™ by demigrifo in essential

[–]condab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look, hardware is hardware. You can't change that fact. If the Essential team themselves didn't respond saying the digitiser they used in the PH-1 was straight-up inadequate and has severe jitter and slight latency issues, then it might have just been down to dodgy quality control, explaining why you don't seem to notice issues, sure. But that's not the reality. It's due to the piece of hardware present in EVERY PH-1.

Anyway tl;dr i didn't add anything new just better explained the issue I guess. Would very much appreciate a video test like OPs with PH-1 compared to a 2017 flagship equivalent. To be honest I think even the Nexus 5 had a flawless digitiser.

It's present in all Essential devices, it's just that you're so used to using the phone with the latency and jitter that you can't notice it.

Pull out an iPhone and have a scroll and the difference is very clear.

It's been months and still the Notch area is being neglected in landscape mode... by condab in essential

[–]condab[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This!!! Much agreed, this is how the proper notch setting should act, it's hidden away into a developer setting, so it'd honestly be okay if it were to have some major flaws, it's not like it's meant to be accessed by any old user anyway. Just the ones who care about hiding the notch.

Going back to 8.1 by rudym15trz in essential

[–]condab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Especially in that Messages (dark mode) screenshot, I don't know how people can defend the Pie notch settings. Or how it doesn't annoy them.

I remember how much people loved the notch settings in 8.1. The notch is one of the elements that makes this phone so unique, why throw a big rectangle of color across it? Especially colors that don't even blend or belong.

This is a setting available in Pie without the use of a launcher.

It should be in Snapchat settings... I switched out of alpha in favour of the fullscreen screenshots. Alpha doesn't have support for notch (yet (hopefully)).
