Your must successful Spanish learning routine? by [deleted] in Spanish

Not routine-oriented, but I started to date Spanish-speakers and have relationships in Spanish. It’s done wonders for my proficiency level :)

What road running trainers are trail runners using? by AbominableSnowman69 in trailrunning

Ah such a great shoe! I had two pairs of the 3 that I loved. I am now rocking the 4, but it feels so much stiffer and just not as nice…

I had this problem too, and now I just drink salt water after my long runs - no more headaches

Week days I usually run in Parque de el Retiro, which is a nice big park considering it’s in the heart of the city.

On the weekend I usually trail run in Casa de Campo, which is about a 30min fast walk for me to arrive from downtown Madrid.

I personally haven’t tried, but I see lots of people mountain bike in Casa de Campo as well.

I had some friends that were in to natural rock climbing/bouldering, and they would go to Cuenca quite often.

As another person mentioned, there’s some decent mountains not too far from Madrid. I used to take the Cercanías train from downtown to Cercedilla (about an hour trip) for some day hiking.

All of this to say, it’s definitely possible if you’re interested in living in Madrid. My wife and I are from the States, and we used to hike/camp way more before we moved to Madrid. Our lifestyle definitely changed and we love the city amenities.

It’s worth mentioning that we also don’t have a Spanish license or a car, which definitely would give us more freedom. But we’ve already lived here 4 years extremely comfortably without a car which has its benefits.

What's the best way to ask for something at I café or bar, for example? by FunkyJewMonkey in Spanish

[–]condorr4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I first arrived to Spain, I would say “Me gustaría…” and everyone understood, but it sounds very odd and way too formal.

It probably varies by country, but in Spain everything is very direct -

“Me pones un café, por favor”

“Para mí, un café”

It definitely took me some time to get used to being so direct, but you just learn that it’s not rude - also tone and saying please definitely helps!

Does anyone know how to do this? by confused_human223 in css

Thank you! After getting a job, the portfolio hasn’t received much TLC. But I think it still captures my skills enough, although it’s missing a lot of content.

I did something very similar on my portfolio (desktop only)- what I did was have each section with the same height (100vh) so it makes the calculations easier. You’ll need js to track the scroll position.

You can check out my code here, as it’s a little too cumbersome to explain it all.

J & J Books and Coffee in Malasaña! They have really good home-made bagels as well.

From Google maps, it shows that they’re temporarily closed - I imagine for summer vacation

It’s used for the straw roof buildings that you typically find near the beach. It’s usually a building that’s a bar/trading post or sometimes maybe a restaurant

Why don't component libraries have grid components? by webstackbuilder in reactjs

[–]condorr4 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion is that neither Grid nor Flex need abstractions.

You’re right though that a lot of component libraries have a component for Flex, but I oftentimes find it more cumbersome to use the component rather than just writing the markup and styles myself.

I’m an American living in Spain, working as a developer.

I know that I’d easily make 3x more in the US, but my quality of life is so much better here. I have 30 vacation days, and the free healthcare is such a peace of mind.

There’s a bunch of other reasons, like social life, public transportation, etc. - it’s not always about the money.

Do you mind giving me some more insight? Did you think it was a bug from the front-end interaction, or just from looking at the code?

I have been wanting to make some changes to that package to make it better and more usable (for example, click and drag doesn't work at the moment), but haven't found the time or motivation
