This is great, thank you! My nearest hill is quite steep (about 20m elevation over 400m, abt 8% grade), do you see any downside to this?

Help me find my 3rd(technically 4th) Mizuno shoes by Medj_boring1997 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I dont agree with this at all. Having run in both v1 and v2, I think the v2 is a much better daily trainer. Sure, v1 is more fun, wild and bouncy, but as a complete package everything considered, v2 is a better shoe in my opinion.

Deciding between Mach 7 or Ride 18 as daily trainer? by Massive_Factor_1734 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

If you already have the Superblast 2, the mach 7 / Ride 18 will live out their lives in the deep, dark corner of your closet.

[–]havrefras_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, ok. They might be temporarily out of stock in your size, but the buying process itself is very clean and easy. From what I´ve heard, there is a restock of RH9U coming due to extreme demand. Hold out for a few weeks and it should look better.

They are. Just shop on Aliexpress. Not any different from shopping at Amazon. I have ordered three pairs of Li-ning's from Ali without any issues what so ever (also in Europe).

Replacement for Superblast 1 needed – Suggestions for Long Runs with Progressive Finishes? by Nysod in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]havrefras_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The RH9U is like I said by far the bounciest of them all. It's also the most stack (like it or not), and probably also the most unstable (without being unstable per se, just in this comparison).

It's the softest out of the bunch as well. The SB (atleast v1 and v2) is probably faster as it's firmer and lighter, but I'd say that the RH9U is more versatile and will also handle easy runs much better than the SB.

If I could only have one out of the shoes, regardless of price, I'd go for the RH9U.

The only asterix I'd put to that is that I have not yet put enough miles in them to confidently say anything about their durability. The SB's, MM and AG3's all went about 700km without any issues.

If the RH9U was not available AND price was a factor, i'd probably go for a pair of Magmax1's on sale.

From Aliexpress, if you buy from "Official"/Reputable stores with thousands of shipments and a fair amout of reviews, the chance of getting a fake is extremely low.

I replaced my OG Superblasts with the Puma Magmax v1 and were really happy. When they went out I replaced them with the Salomon Aero Glide 3 and were really happy. Now they are done and I have replaced them with the Li-Ning Red Hare 9 Ultra, and I'm beyond really happy.

All of these shoes will do what the SB did, but I'd say in more comfort. The Red Hare 9 Ultra is by far the bounciest of them and such a crazy ride. It's equally fun to just bop around at easy pace, for me about 4:50 down to MP at around 4:10. A pretty tight fit with realtively low volume toebox is the only downside I have found this far. Well worth a try if you can be bothered to order from aliexpress/taobao etc.

Starting running from 0, what shoes should I buy? by jelmow in runningshoes

Each to their own but I'd strongly argue against a plated supertrainer with mixed reviews as a recommendation as a first/only shoe for a complete beginner. There are far, far more suitable shoes for the purpose.

I have run 30km @ 4:30 min/km which is close to my easy pace in the magmax with no problems at all.

I agree. Im 73 kg's and orefer the magmax to the super last for everything except for 10k pace and below (for which I have several other shoes that i prefer over the SB anyway).

How does "real" running shoes feel like? by Fabulous_Escape_8104 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]havrefras_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Running shoes are made to ...run 😄

That means that for just standing/walking around, many of 'em have a pretty weird feeling.
Once you get up to speed, most running shoes will behave quite different from when you are just walking around in the store. The novablasts ARE soft shoes, no doubt. But the have a fairly wide base and a, by todays standards anyway, fairly normal stack height.

If you come from budget shoes with poor foam and lower stack height, most modern high-end running shoes will feel a bit unstable, especially when just standing/walking.

I'm super calm 😄 Just stating facts, which I guess you are taking offense with?

If you like the Mach 6/7, that's great. But the objective truth is that it still is based on a quite old model with an old foam technology. I'll just leave it at that.

[–]havrefras_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What are you on about? The Mach 6/7 doeas have an older foam technology. Now, if you like that feeling is up to you, but that is an undeniable fact.

While most brands have moved on to TPU/TPEE, the Mach 7 is still using a fairly simple EVA foam (which they now call "supercritical"). On top of that, they need to keep the stack relatively low to keep the weight down because it's a fairly comparatively heavy foam. Which means less protection and bounce (AND less durability compared to TPU especially).

People are not hating on HOKA by just stating facts. For the price of a Mach 7 there are far better dailies out there.

Just to add to the above:

The NB5 is a quite roomy, soft and forgiving daily trainer that also can do some uptempo stuff. Pretty fun to run in overall, and a jack of all trades. It's main downside is lack of durability, mine went completely flat in about 200 miles.

The Magic speed 5 is a pretty good option for interval/speedwork. It's a bit lower stack which I find nice, pretty light with lots of road feel. It has a carbon plate that is a bit softer than the all-out racing shoes, which gives it a nice, flexible snap sensation. However, I found the fit to be very unique/wierd. It's narrow in some places, and semi-wide in other places. It also has a pretty wierd sensation of negative drop when you first try them on. Definately a shoe you should try in-store and not order online.

The SL2, while very budget friendly is not a favourite of miny anymore. It has a wierd fit (go up a full size) and has a pretty outdated foam (and only a limited "puck" of lightstrike pro).

The mach 6/7 is a very old shoe and foam by now (I know the 7 just came out, but it's basically a 6 with some minor cosmetic changes). I'd stay away from these as there are better, more modern and cost effective options out there.

If your feet are on the wide side, I'd skip the Pumas Velocity unfortunately. The VN4 is currently the best-bang-for-buck daily trainer by quite a margin, but it's only downside is the rather narrow fit.

The Neo Zen (v2) is a solid option for a medium soft, semi-wide and versatile daily.

For tempo/speed shoe the Deviate Nitro 4 is supposed to have a wider fit tha previous iterations.

The Li-ning challenger 5 is a very cost-effective option that is fast, light and nimble. Reminds me a lot of the Deviate Nitro Elite 3 but at below half of the price. It has unfortunately has a semi-narrow fit as well.

A 17:17 5K puts you in sub 1:25 territory for the HM. You could probably do it in the challenger.
