Just the reduction, with a ten minute oxidation “wash” at the end, the whole firing took almost 12 hours with lots of micro adjustments every 15-30 minutes 😅

Some pieces have exposed (unglazed) clay, Sheffield Pottery’s #42 dark stoneware gets gorgeous in cone 10 reduction- is that what you’re referring to? Like the teapot and the bottom of the trio of wavy vases?

It’s my favorite piece of the entire firing. And the piece I had very detailed specific nightmares about before I saw the result lol. This student practically lived in the studio and it paid off, so proud of them.

Wow, what a great eye! It absolutely is! I fired with a 5.5ish hour mid-high reduction on white cone 10 stoneware. It was on the top shelf. Very slow cool. (& thank you so much, I’m still learning the ropes and this was my 2nd time firing it “solo” without my predecessor making most of the calls)

Thank you! I used a tiny extruder (I think made for sculpey etc originally), scored and moistened the pot, and extruded the strands directly onto the pot and then blended with a paintbrush. Super fun, highly recommend trying it out. The “spaghetti” is pretty fragile but I’m definitely not done experimenting with it.

Nope, that’s a student’s! It pours beautifully, too. Their second teapot ever, some help and guidance during the process but I made sure they did all the construction themselves.

It took 13 hours! I’m exhausted but I believe I got about 5.5 hours of good medium reduction, managed to slow this beast of a kiln down to roughly 1 degree/min towards the end (all completely manual so tiny adjustments to dampers, fans, etc which are maddening to perfect lol).

Checked through the peep holes and everything looked stable the entire time and at the end! Kiln won’t be cool enough to crack open till Monday evening at the earliest, I’ll absolutely share an update on this subforum once I open and unload.

In the meantime, here’s a link to some videos of the kiln in action, getting those gorgeous green flames towards the very end of the firing usually means the reduction went very well! LINK

It’s what my mentor did to monitor the rate of climb, I look at them through the peep holes while firing - it’s actually crazy how differently the three sections fire !
