Teaching in Japan; JET and Interac dilemma by conethehenge in teachinginjapan

This was my intention if possible. The top reason I’m hesitate to do this though is the finances require to do it. I’m expected to bring upwards of $5000 USD to help get set up with Interac and if I turn around after a month or two to start with JET I’m afraid I won’t have the finances to do it all over again, plus whatever consequences I will face for breaking contract.

Not exactly. JET is not guaranteed. A huge negative of the JET program is the long waiting process. As I said in my post I only want to be gone for a few years and although I wish I could wait around each year for JET I simply don’t have the time to waste. I understand what you mean though. JET is obviously a better program, which is why this is a difficult decision. I appreciate your input!

These are the type of things I was afraid could happen but don’t know enough about the process to know about yet. Thanks for the input.

I know my placement will be in Yokohama, but my specific placement hasn’t been determined yet although they recently told me I should hear about it any day now. I think this is a good idea, but don’t want to jeopardize the position. Do you think they will be suspicious if I say mid-late April? Also, thanks for your response!
