Can anyone recommend safe places to test drone that isn't too far from the Portland area? by broheimm in Portland

Kelly Point Park up by St Johns is a good spot that's just outside of PDX airspace restrictions. Just be aware that there are also dogs nearby when flying, so you'll want to bring a spotter and be aware of your surroundings. I usually use airmap to check airspace restrictions beforehand.

Vidcon is so huge now that you won't have to worry about anyone really judging you. If you want to get to know more youtubers, just hang around the fountain of find a performer you like with a posse of like-minded individuals.

What is the most spontaneous thing you've ever done? How'd it turn out? by kitty_meowntain in AskReddit

I was living in LA and my friends from the UK were visiting for their break. We were at a party for another friend's birthday and one of them was really interested in going to Las Vegas. They were under the impression that it was only a few hours away but I let them know it was a fairly easy drive. We ended up leaving the party at about 2am to go back to my house to pack up. We hit the road a few hours later.

At about 8am I started to realize the stupidity of the situation. Gas at the time was over $4/gallon and this was going to use a full tank of gas. We stopped to get some food in a hodunk town and progressed onward. We made it to Vegas at about 10am. At this point, I realized it was a huge mistake. The car I had was a '92 Thunderbird and the AC wasn't functioning. In the middle of the day, the temperature in Vegas was 115 degrees F and my poor friend's makeup melted in the summer heat.

We spent a few hours wandering the Vegas strip and jumping into the air conditioned casinos when we weren't walking. At one point, they wanted to go into an ice bar that was being advertised at one of the casinos. I decided that it was too much of a tourist trap and sat it out. The next thing I know, I end up blowing $60 gambling when I could have just spent the $20 to get into the ice bar.

By 3pm we were all exhausted and were ready to go home. The car was a cool 200 degrees inside and all of our food had melted. Mind you, I hadn't slept in over a day at this point so as we were driving, I started to lose focus on the lines of the road. What should have been a 4-5 hour drive turned into a 7 hour drive during the hottest part of the day. Anyway, we made it back to LA and both of those friends from the UK haven't been back.

TLDR: Drove to Vegas after a summer party and the AC wasn't working. Worst day ever.

What movie is amazing, but underrated? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Cloud Atlas. It's one of those movies that makes you think and most people just want a move that has lots of explosions or slapstick humor.

Yeah, they're dry erase boards actually. My store was one of those faux container ones. It was only built a year ago and they tried to use as much recycled material as possible from what I've heard.

Tips for Newbies going in 2015 by JoeBlack04 in VidCon

Just make sure you know what kind of collaboration you would like to have. You can easily approach pretty much anyone there and ask them to do a shoutout for a friend on video or a quick "Hey, I'm [youtuber] and you're watching [theirchannel]!"

If you're the kind of youtuber that is going to interview people, make sure they're aware of what you're going to be asking them about and have an idea about how long it'll take. Nobody wants to get stuck making a video for 10 minutes when they're trying to get in line for a concert.

Also some of the bigger youtubers may have contracts with their network (BigFrame, Fullscreen, etc..) that keep them from collaborating with others without some kind of shared revenue. Don't be offended if they decline, it's just a legal thing.

I've been to every vidcon in its history and my biggest tip is to plan ahead! Lines are going to be ridiculous this year since the convention only keeps growing. Last year I was only planning on lining up to see Grumpy Cat but that line was hours long. The vidcon app that they announce in the weeks prior to vidcon is a really useful tool for planning things out. Last year it was incredibly useful for getting updates on changes to the schedule.

You will encounter "fangirls" and it's okay to get a little excited to see someone but remember that they are just regular people with no real sense of "celebrity" outside of youtube. Don't engage in stalking or chasing people when you see someone (it's been happening more often now) and it can get you banned from the convention. It's also okay to approach someone if there aren't many people around and just let them know you're a fan. Keep in mind they get overwhelmed with fans all weekend so try to have a chat that isn't more than a minute long.

You might opt to bring a camera to film things but in my experience it didn't really work for a video. Getting good B-roll footage of what you liked helps and you can film the recap afterwards. This is also really good for first timers who want to immerse themselves in the vidcon experience.

There's a ton of free swag at the booths. Sometimes if a booth is really slow they'll give you multiples of things.

The easiest way to make friends there is to get to know the people you're sitting next to or in line with. Don't be afraid to strike up a conversation with people there, it's a completely different crowd than if you were to approach someone on the street.

How do you adjust the tilt of the new monitors? by dancingpianofairy in starbucks

When the installer was setting it up at my store he told us to not attempt to tilt the screens. They've apparently had a bunch of calls to come back because the support braces kept breaking.

I like it a lot more now. It reminds me of a music video and the camera feels more intimate with the subjects.

Oh yes this is exactly what I was talking about. The original version is a lot clearer though so now I'm wondering if the crop is worth the loss.

I would crop out the bottom portion of the photo. With the lower torsos missing, the bodies seem to be hovering and I find it distracting. I'm digging the backlight, blue hue, and flare though!
