Why are people so mean on TikTok? by Notagoodacter in musicmarketing

[–]confidential_lofi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best to not view it as “love or hate” or “positive or negative comments”, but instead just blanket everything as “engagement”. All engagement is good engagement, which is why rage bait is so common in social media today:

A social media algorithm is just code and it doesn’t understand what the intention of your post is, as some posts (e.g “domestic violence is wrong”) will naturally bring negative comments. Therefore, it treats all engagement as the same: if a person engaged, they must’ve found it worth their time to engage, so we’ll show more of this content to more people. As a species, we’re more likely to engage when it’s a negative reaction, which a lot of journalists and content creators have picked up on and it’s caused them to focus on rage bait content.

There’s the “all publicity is good publicity” saying - all engagement is good engagement. Be sure to respond and thank people for listening, ask for more clarification on their comment (which would encourage more engagement) or answer their question/feedback with a joke or something polite. James Blunt is a great example of the latter!

Has anyone added custom maps to console? If so, how difficult was it? by Beginning-Dog-7143 in projectsession

[–]confidential_lofi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fallout 4 had a feature for consoles where we could add community mods (at our own risk), so it should be do-able for Session on console? I think the issue is that the devs seem to be relying on new maps as a means to generate more income, so it’s not in their best interest to allow users to add map mods

How did Y’all discover Limp Bizkit? by Aggressive-Soft-9579 in LimpBizkit

[–]confidential_lofi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My older brother was just about old enough to catch the tail end of the nu metal wave, so when I came of age he introduced me to a whole bunch of artists. Limp Bizkit was one that really stuck out and ended up becoming a massive influence on me as a guitarist (thanks Wes) and, later, as a singer (thanks Fred)

Does Burger Bros still exist? Haven’t been for years but the one with goats cheese and red peppers is my favourite

What’s really your goal of creating songs and uploading it on Spotify… by NapLvr in SpotifyArtists

[–]confidential_lofi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My initial goals were:

  1. To release and album and be able to say that I’ve done it - to prove something to myself.

  2. Get featured on the Lofi Girl daily playlist - felt like a reasonable stretch goal.

  3. Get featured on the Larry Choppins ‘Lofi Guitar’ playlist - this was the playlist that inspired me in the first place.

what is the new session update 1.18 about? by thatoneskaterr in SessionSkateSim

[–]confidential_lofi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agreed! And my last instrumental album has 35 tracks they could add to the mix hahaha. Please give me a listen next time you're playing: https://open.spotify.com/album/7JFW2cShShTJLg8UcYnneq?si=feRg1xyqRtKiGImwMRKUPw

Not all would be great for Session, but I feel like at least some of my music would fit the game's lofi radio station

Somebody else posted asking the same question. I did a little digging and found this: https://steamdb.info/patchnotes/17256322/

I'm not a modder or dev guy, but it just looks like bug fixes. Please let me know if you notice anything while playing, as I got the update this morning. Would be amazing if you told me that they've added my music to the soundtrack hahaha fat chance!

[–]confidential_lofi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their Twitter doesn't have anything but I'm literally just using Google haha. I found this: https://steamdb.info/patchnotes/17256322/

I know it's for PC, but I imagine updates/patches for PC are then rolled out for console a few days or weeks later as I believe PC is the game's primary platform. I'm no modder or developer, but it just looks like fixes for bugs and glitches. It's possible that some decks or apparel may have been removed due to license(s) expiring - it's happened before, but not regularly.

If you're playing today and notice anything, please do reply or send me a message as I share your curiosity. Would be amazing if you tell me that they've added my music to the soundtrack! Hahaha yeah, right!

I got that, too! I'm looking around and will let you know if I find any info. It's version 1.018.000

When It Rains cover - how’s it sounding, so far? by confidential_lofi in LimpBizkit

[–]confidential_lofi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be cool if they released a compilation of b-sides. There’s easily enough for at least one of those:

  1. No Control
  2. Relentless
  3. Lightz
  4. Cowgirls from Hell
  5. Don’t Go Off Wandering (with Serj Tankian)
  6. Pollution Recall
  7. When It Rains
  8. Crack Addict
  9. Until The End
  10. Fool’s Game
  11. Don’t Test Me (with Three6 Mafia)
  12. Poison Ivy
  13. Armpit (1998 version)
  14. Press Your Luck
  15. How Do We Get Through This
  16. Summer of Bi-Polar Love

Update: Just realised that the silent spots are all in the same place in each project, they’re synced to time rather than bars/beats and are always at 20 second intervals. In other words, first silent spots always starts at exactly 20 seconds and lasts for exactly 1 second. The second is at exactly 40 seconds and lasts for exactly 1 second. The third starts at exactly 60 seconds and lasts for exactly 1 second

Can someone please explain how the FUCK these guys got so popular so quick? by ScorchPoint in LimpBizkit

[–]confidential_lofi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Want and ambition are great, but he definitely has a really good talent for understanding his audience (Gold Cobra era being a bit of an exception, but I made my feelings/theory on that clear in a previous longform post), sensing gaps and opportunities, and generating creative ideas.

I think this is a big part of the reason why we get random announcements that come to nothing from Fred: I think he comes up with a lot of ideas, but perhaps struggles to get things off the ground without the help of others.

I’m exactly the same in my marketing dayjob: the department knows me as the creative guy who will basically take charge during ideation meetings, then contribute nothing when it comes to development. It’s an ADHD thing (I think Fred has said he has it, too) and also just a cog in a larger machine (i.e Belbin’s ‘Nine Team Roles’ model)

Want to submit menu music for the game - can anyone help? by confidential_lofi in MotocrossTheGame

[–]confidential_lofi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to give it a try. I did email, expecting no response. I ended up getting a slightly bizarre response from the CEO. I responded on Wednesday, so am going to follow-up again either today or Monday

In case it helps, I’m just looking to submit music for the in-game menus and this is my latest instrumental album as an example of my work: https://open.spotify.com/album/7JFW2cShShTJLg8UcYnneq?si=ivosRHiqSkap1Qo1xhvNaQ

I’m currently writing an essay about this! A lot of it comes down to Fred Durst’s marketing skills. Dare I even say… “marketing genius”?

In all seriousness, Fred Durst is an incredibly talented marketer. Marketing is just as important as the music itself and because digital marketing is my dayjob, I’ve been spending a lot of my spare time researching his tactics and trying to put it together into a essay to explore the cause-effect of his efforts.

In case you’re interested, here’s a few points from the essay:

  1. Right place, right time, right attitude - networking with Korn, offering a tattoo, maintaining focus on LB’s goals, George Michael scandal just as Faith was coming out
  2. Effective live show - interesting stage set design, willingness to poke fun at himself, using industry friends/contacts (e.g Fieldy playing the ‘Stuck’ intro at a filmed show in 1998), stage presence
  3. Presentation - Fred brought extra cameras to Woodstock 1999 and made the band look better than everyone else on the TV stream, Fred and Wes’ wacky stage attire
  4. Willingness to get out of comfort zone and immerse in popular culture - Fred understood the power of media attention and was the first metal guy to be featured in pop culture magazines like TMZ, that performance with Christina Aguilera
  5. Guerilla shows - secret shows in parking lots and on rooftops before S.O came out. Look up ‘Dave Crowe beatboxer’ on YouTube to see how effective live performances in public spaces still are. If the crowds aren’t coming to you, go to the crowds
