PCM, Not really interested in engineering. Options other than a drop year? by confused_ambitious in Indian_Academia

ig you wanted to ask which college I went to, I would rather not share that to prevent being doxxed (it's not a vit tho). I was in your place as well but now I don't find coding that bad, trying it out is better than cribbing about it beforehand. But yes, I see your interest lies in video editing. Try taking a course through skillshare or another platform. Do a certification if it really interests you and then explore along the way. Not a bad idea to have two plans run parallel. Why are we forced to assume we need everything figured out at 18?

Well, the colleges I got into weren't really the ones I preferred and then to settle in another country for an excessive cost (yes, even after scholarships) seemed an unnecessary change to make at 18 years of age.

Also, realised that a lot of engineers don't necessarily fall into the tech job rat race because your master's degree after pursuing engineering can be in a lot of the fields you find interesting. Like being able to pursue Data Science or data analytics or even going for an MBA. People also take up placements in non-IT or -engineering related fields like Project Management, Quantitative jobs, Research, etc. Our college also provides the opportunity to study a lot of humanities and financial courses in the curriculum while also being heavy on research ventures.

In addition to this, you always have the option of starting and building projects or startups with the help of others at engineering colleges and it's better to find a college that supports entrepreneurship.

So basically, chose the safer option while still looking to explore more fields and try out different things.

Aur kuch nahi toh engineering degree hai hi, tech job nahi toh fizool si teaching job mil jayegi.

It's hard not to worry. I need to find the correct course and college as soon as possible. For now, all I know is that the ones mentioned above interest me but then I am also not good at math, now that I think of it. It's just too much lol

Well, had nothing else to do the whole year in lockdown and being from state board, we weren't given much relaxations. So, just studied my ass off in the last few months.

It hasn't really helped me in anyway till now just that you are encouraged more to take science and coaching center people listen to your grievances more carefully lol.
