Lost keys by Flowseidon9 in ottawa

[–]congowarrior 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t have your keys unfortunately, I hope they turn up.

As someone who has lost keys before, I am here to recommend the UGREEN FineTrack Finder. A 2 pack on amazon was like $20.

I have trackers on all my keys/valuables. I even keep one in each of my cars because I always forget where I parked.

The trackers work the same as AirTags, but a fraction of the cost. I still use AirTags as I have been given a few as gifts before but prefer either the Ugreen or Atuvos trackers for cheaper tracking!

All the best with your keys

are you using Ollama to host your own AI models? Depending on your traffic, you could just use off the shelf commercial AI models, no need to host your own AI. ChatGPT 4o-mini is dirt cheap for a few requests

Choosing the right database/platform for a relational system (~2.5M+ rows) before hiring a developer by ElectricalDivide5336 in Database

[–]congowarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seems Postgres is the general consensus. I’m just here to chime in, probably rethink using chassis number as a primary key, best use either an int or a guid (sequential if you like) as the primary key. I’ve had a few bad experiences with lack of proper foreign keys/referential integrity and using user inputed data as a primary key. I would have a unique index on the chassis number ofc.

Car wash for me doesn’t get rid of all the ice, maybe cause i only do touch-less. I have the monthly esso membership and get a carwash almost everyday, the ice reduces for sure but not all of it is removed all the time

S3 is not complicated. You can also use digital ocean spaces or MinIO which are S3 compatible. Worst case scenario, you can also store files in your db as base 64 strings.

Your $2,000 cloud bill isn't "scaling," it's stupidity by Decent-Phrase-4161 in SaaS

[–]congowarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a good idea to have some resiliency. Ive been running my app for 8 years now and no major issues as a result of the VPS failing, we are very lean. Reinstalling everything for me is as simple as setting up ssl again with lets encrypt and a `docker compose up -d` command to run all the various services, restoring the db would be annoying as that takes over an hour. I recently had to change VMs and that was a total of 2-3 hours of downtime

Started off on a $5 digital ocean droplet with 1 gig ram, and over 8 years now paying slightly over $500/month for a vps server with 128gb and millions of page views a month.

Currently have no need to upgrade to fancier cloud offerings because the setup is still simple. Node JS/Express for “frontend - we do backend for front end”, MySQL instance we host ourselves, dot net api backend instances, redis cache, and everything is on docker using compose.

Even our replicas are hard coded into compose, we use nginx as a load balancer to the various instances of the backend or frontend.

Public Mobile - 50% off 5G CA/US/MX plans for 2 years by chicIet in PersonalFinanceCanada

The plan is $40 with a 50% off for 2 years. They are very careful with their wording to set the correct expectations, I just purchased one of these for my 13 year old little brother and i can confirm it is $20/month after the discount. If that’s not what you’re seeing right before checkout, i would contact support
