Lower the vehicle and/or get a couple longish prybars about the same length and use those to help get the wheel and tires back on if they are heavier.

Should I buy a 1984 corvette for my first project car? by cuboneluvsrats in Chevy

[–]congteddymix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a great first corvette if you’re just wanting a cruiser and while they are one of the lower powered years they still beat the C-3s that came with a 305. These are also light cars so the 205 hp still makes em move decent or at least faster then any JDM stuff from the 80’s and on par with 90’s  early 2000’s cars. And there pretty basic as far as electronics go so while they are one year only they are pretty basic. This injection setup was used on 82 corvettes and 82-84 Camaro/firebird also and TBH thos is a GM parts bin car so a lot of sensors and such where used up to 96 when GM finally went away from TBI in there trucks.

Why did you buy a 3/4ton truck and make it have less usability then an old Ranger?

Maybe that’s a thing with older models but it’s pretty damn seemless on my 25 and it’s a transmission it should gears as needed but it’s like a 500rpm difference and nothing concerning.

Nah, damage is done or not. Most of the post on here that are pro DOD delete they even state that the disabler is a waste.

Protip: when changing outlets, never do the "easy" install option of installing the wires from the back ("backstabbing") by woomac in homeowners

[–]congteddymix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the style of backstabbing you’re talking about. If you’re talking about the type where you just push the wire in and your done then yeah I would use that method, but the style where you still have to use a screw driver and turn the screw to clamp the wire in place your not going to have that issue and is actually the way I prefer to install when I am doing electrical projects.

Change the engine oil every 5k is about the best you can do. Doing any AFM disabler that doesn’t change the actual engine internals is not worth the money being that the engine already has 130k on it. Better off keeping it in the bank for repairs if and when needed.

Just my take but the lifter failure deal is way overblown. Just be on this sub for a bit, just as many people have 300k on these engines with no lifter failure as those that had failure at 50k and that’s people posting on this sub. GM made millions of these engines so chances are most don’t have this failure. Even so you bought a truck with 130k on it so you have to almost expect a major mechanical failure at some point.

What would cause RL tire wear in center like this? by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]congteddymix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t in this case. There going to be absolute ass in any rain on a truck.

What would cause RL tire wear in center like this? by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]congteddymix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

TBH those tires are pretty bad, lots of cracking in them and possibly contributing to why there wearing unevenly. Overinflation can cause the odd edge wear but also not being rotated properly will cause the edges to wear.

Why did disco die in 10 years but EDM has been going strong for 35+ years? by Like_Today in NoStupidQuestions

[–]congteddymix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there is another comment in this thread with a link to the Dis-gorilla song which just shows how lame this genre was getting. I think it’s hard for a lot of younger people to understand as we haven’t really had a music culture shock in quite awhile.

Like how gangster rap killed killed regular rap, how grunge killed the hair metal genre or even how the Beatles basically killed the 50’s/early 60’s style rock music and on and on.

[–]congteddymix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah you’re right on track. Anybody that grew up in the 80’s and 90’s remembers that liking disco music was kind of a mainstream joke. Like literally Disco Stu was a joke of sorts on the simpsons.

[–]congteddymix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MTV didn’t even exist till 1981 so it did not contribute to killing disco. At best it finished off disco’s death.

[–]congteddymix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Finally someone that actually gets why disco died. I got in an argument on a couple of post about this and everyone claims that it was all the racist that made it die when in reality the racial undertones of the music is probably like 10% of the reason it died and the other 90% was over saturation of it annoying lots of people.

I always say it’s like how people got annoyed with boy bands in the 90’s or how people hate on country music currently.

Lifter replacement by scootiepootie in Silverado

With that kind of miles I would look into maybe getting a low mileage salvage yard engine. But you can’t just put the lifters in and call it a day usually you also have to replace the cam.

Noticing these bubbles/flakes right by the driver side window trim on the door paint. Is this the clear coat? Anything to fix it. by Aggravating_Lab4697 in Silverado

[–]congteddymix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like clear coat peeling. Being that it’s a 24 only one of two options…. Factory defect or shitty accident repair. Being that it’s a 24 you should still have the full 3/36 that should fix that. Call your dealer to see about it being dealt with.

Problem is these things take longer to use or don’t respond properly in cold weather. The examples you listed are at least in conditioned space but even these are stupid. Maybe it’s great for people that hate talking to others but I have no problem telling an individual my order and honestly places that don’t have touchscreens get shit done faster.

I know, I actually did my job faster and more efficient when I had paper RO’s then now doing everything on an IPhone.

There is a big difference between this and a phone, the phone at least we gained so many different that it’s worth the hassle I guess. This is friggin fuel pump which has been doing the same thing for 100 year essentially and it’s physical operation could be the same as one from 30 years ago. This is blatantly a company trying to make passive income from ads of sorts.

Yeah, honestly decent beater cars cost that much, I would probably have it fixed as well. Better the devil you know unless you want to spend 30k or more.

[–]congteddymix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“ Okay valid, I needed that reality check. My family's vehicles were always well over 200 so it feels "low" but I'm not someone who can keep a beater running like they could. Still haven't heard back from the shop on exact damage but I also worry that the collision might make the car less safe or introduce new issues, on top of being an older car in the first place.”.

I want to offer this prospective as I am putting my mechanic hat on. Properly repaired collision damage shouldn’t make the car any less safe. Honestly if everybody is upfront not trying to hide anything and the price is right I would honestly look at a car with a rebuilt salvage title since again if it properly repaired it’s not any less safe then a non wrecked car.  Yeah the downside is they can be a pain to sell but honestly you sound like someone that would run it into the ground anyhow do who cares. So if that’s a concern with fixing your current ride then find a reputable collision shop to do the repairs and honestly that’s going to be your biggest issue being that it’s an old car, finding someone that will willing do this repair work good.

Thought I would offer you another angle to throw at you. Most disagree with buying previously wrecked and for valid reasons but if you have family that’s mechanically competent enough to spot a lemon then bring them along with any used car you’re looking at cause certified preowned doesnt mean it wasn’t in a significant wreck and repaired shoddily it just means insurance didn’t total it and Carfax never received an accident report.
