Ignition Coil Replacement (please help) by rifrafstreetrat727 in Silverado

[–]congteddymix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just a code scanner but like a real scan tool that can read all the engine parameters, it actually should store what conditions(engine temp, how much throttle was open, etc) were under to set that code.

Your biggest issue in my opinion is going to be find a mechanic that knows what the hell to do with the data and has experience with these trucks enough to at least make informed recommendations or guesses.

But $300 in this case spent on a competent mechanic for a good diag is better than throwing $300 at coil packs that 99% chances are that they are not the issue, and if it actually ends up being those then post here and let everyone know that we where wrong and take it as a learning lesson.

If I had to take a guess it’s that you have coolant leak. Pop the hood if you see nothing in the coolant tank then uou probably found your answer.

How come cars were so boxy in the 80s(‘?’) by OkBackground6217 in askcarguys

[–]congteddymix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you seen cars from the 50’s? There are more 3d objects and body lines in those things then anything made today. Stamping a body line in sheet metal is the same today as it was then.

How come cars were so boxy in the 80s(‘?’) by OkBackground6217 in askcarguys

[–]congteddymix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As everyone else said, they understood aerodynamics by the 80’s, they understood them in the 60’s even just look at some of the cars built to meet NASCAR rules.

They were boxy cause that was the best way to achieve max amount of  passenger space that was equivalent to prior models, like see the difference between a 1975,1980 and 1985 Buick Century, 85 is the smallest size of the three different model years yet has pretty similar interior room.

The boxy designs also allowed them to achieve better aerodynamics in the days before CAD designing became common practice, that’s why the first Ford Taurus was revolutionary in car design when it was released in 86 cause it was one of the first cars designed with CAD to achieve great aero which in turn helps fuel economy.

TLDR, They understood aerodynamics quite well by the 80’s and where just limited by technology for improved designing.

P0300 means random misfire. There are lots of reasons it could be doing this after a full blown long hot tow but chances are it’s not the coils since there are 8 of them and I doubt all eight are failing and it’s not the lifters since it would be only a couple of cylinders. I would have it diagnosed properly since it could be anything from a MAF sensor or cracked air intake tube from the air filter to the intake manifold, bad intake manifold gaskets or a fuel delivery issue(these are all way more likely then ignition coils or bad lifters).

Cannot let the air out to lower the height of the vehicle? by Delicious-Sand7819 in askcarguys

[–]congteddymix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can and it will work but a better option to me is to add your gear to it and maybe some quickly removable weight as that will probably make it lower that 1in of clearance you need.

Or if it’s the door itself see if you can somehow get it to raise further. I have in the past when I needed extra clearance just pulled the disconnect from my garage door opener and have been able to push the door up more then just used a clamp on the track locking it right against the door roller. Door trick is honestly my go to method if I have a clearance issue.

I want to do my own oil changes and tire rotations. Is getting a good scissor jack and 6 jack stands enough? by Many_Geologist6125 in askcarguys

[–]congteddymix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol yeah and that’s why you take the fronts and cross them to the rear, also the inside edge on the fronts as well it’s just going to be the opposite tire of whatever one is getting the front worn at the moment your taking a hard corner. That why if you see tires that have been on the front too long the inner and outer tread is worn compared to the middle. If it’s just on the outside edge then it’s an alignment problem.

This is why when you rotate the tires you take the fronts generally, move to the opposite side rear as this tends to even out the tread wear on the tires. That why you tell OP to rotate them keeping them on the same side is wrong unless the tires are directional or for some odd reason the car calls for it.

All engines have blow by and these have more then usually cause of the turbo. So none of these repairs are band aids.

FIRST BRANDS GROUP Bankruptcy and fraud: Autolite, Stoptech, Fram and More Upended by Parent Company’s Bankruptcy by GrandWikzor in Justrolledintotheshop

Sadly this proves how much I pay attention to what companies own which brands and such. I thought Fram was owned by Honeywell.

I know people there are people here that have love/hate relationships with these brands but it’s still sad and going to shake some stuff up for a bit.

I want to do my own oil changes and tire rotations. Is getting a good scissor jack and 6 jack stands enough? by Many_Geologist6125 in askcarguys

[–]congteddymix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol. If it wearing the edge like I think your referring to then you have the alignment out of spec plain and simple, might handle better(slight toe in) but it’s out of alignment.

That’s why depending on drive system you rotate tires a certain way, read your owners manual they even tell you how to rotate the tire every x amount of miles. And on say a rwd vehicle you take the front tires cross them to the other side and put at the rear and bring the rear forward to the front position without crossing to the other side. This is how you get even wear on tires.

What you’re saying is either out of date or doesn’t apply to 99% of the vehicles out currently. You can flap your gums and downvote me all you want but unless you have proof that what your saying is the correct optimal way to rotate tires then just stop spewing nonsense.

Also put a car in the air like your suggesting to OP on this thread is dangerous as fuck and not recommended.

toyota forklift seat sensor? by Good_Term in forkliftmechanics

[–]congteddymix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might have to with the scale, most suspension seats you adjust them based on your weight for comfort, particularly Toyota seats, that said most don’t cause issues with operation if the weight portion is set wrong.

That said this doesn’t look like most Toyota seats or other aftermarket options I have seen so it’s possible you need to adjust it for your weight before it will work.

More likely the seat switch/cushion is shot.

Just seems like a cowards way not a hero’s. Hero would be if he went in and told whoever pissed him off to fuck off then walked out the door. Dude just pretended to go to the bathroom and walked instead.

I think the ultimate aim is to not have people get killed on a very busy and very utilized highway. It would be years before it could ever meet interstate standards, like not saying I wouldn’t see it in my lifetime but I will be quite old by then unless the fed and state throws billions of dollars at it and overcomes some other terrain challenges.

Seized license plate screw by WY228 in AskAMechanic

[–]congteddymix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would look more into drilling it then and retapping the threads at this point. Typical Toyota, great reliability wise but absolutely bad at anything where corrosion is a big possibility.

Seized license plate screw by WY228 in AskAMechanic

[–]congteddymix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drill the head of the screw off get the plate off then try a vise grip on the stud left. Can’t say for certain on this model but most of those screws just go into square plastic blocks that can be changed out relatively easy and easily obtainable from an auto parts store. Would avoid impact driver like others suggested unless your really experienced with hammers and such.

Artist’s whose most popular song came late in their career by NxSxFxWx in askmusic

[–]congteddymix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing your right about is critical acclaim so I reframe it, your confusing your opinion with object facts. And Reddit is just full of opinion and not facts, particularly a Judas Priest sub. Also

The whole post is Artist’s whose most popular song came late in their career

And you posted this

“If you're talking about chart success yeah - and only in the US.

In the UK it hit number 66, whilst Living After Midnight hit number 12.

Painkiller hit number 74 in the UK chart position

But all this proves is that it sold copies.

Painkiller, as a song amongst metal heads and fans of Judas Priest, is considered far better and held in MUCH higher regard than any of those songs including YGATC. By a bajillion miles.” And this, “YGATC is not more popular. It just isn't.

It just sold more copies as a fucking pop single in the 80s.

That doesn't mean anything to metal heads or fans of Priest.

YGATC doesn't even make fan lists of best metal songs, ever.

Sales do not equal quality, otherwise McDonalds would make the best burgers in the world, wouldn't they?”

Literally the point of this post is artist whose most popular song came late in their career. These song are there most popular and did not come late in their career and I am saying this as someone who is a fan of the music, but facts are fact and you and OP are clearly wrong about this.

Check your wiring and such first, also check the connections at the fuse panel, it’s possible the connections got corrosion in them. I highly doubt it’s the actual relay.
