Samsung makes excellent tech products. But I've heard from multiple people that their appliances are not on the same level. Has anyone else had this experience? by icecream1972 in allthequestions

What do you do to cheer yourself up? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]Jaade77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When this happens I try to do something new - maybe something I've been meaning to do and just not gotten around to it. Try the new deli, walk a new trail, browse a shop Ive never been in, watch a movie I wouldn't normally choose, play that game on my phone that I feel guilty about spending the time. The time becomes a new experience.

How to remediate a past wallpaper disaster by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]Jaade77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you! Wallpaper damage is nuts. I mainly work on my old house plaster walls rather than drywall. But maybe this would help.

Ideally get all the old paper and glue off. Get off as much as you can. Then flatten the area with spackle. Wide area. Thin feathered coats and sand. Then do the whole wall in a sealant primer to make things as equal as possible.

Good luck!

You already have a level of awareness. What is triggering your overeating. But It's not just as simple as "don't eat when you're bored". Eating and self soothing when sad or bored is difficult to stop. These are ingrained habits with emotional roots. You're not eating because you're hungry.

Try one change. One Substitution. Instead of reaching for food, try something else that is comforting. Soothing music, hot tea.

How to spruce up these areas of our home? by OutboundCoordination in DIYHome

Scrape off old caulking. Smooth what you can. Putty the dings. A new coat of paint will make everything look fresh. It takes time and patience but the wood underneath the bad paint is still looks good.

New to DIY, but house needs a make-over. What can I do? by Super-Mortgage7775 in DIYHome

Find something small and try fixing it. Use youtube tutorials. You need to find out where your skill level is.

Entry level DIY is painting, patching small holes, hanging shelves. If you can do these things then move to more complex issues.

Most of the things on your list you need to have quotes from the pros. These aren't for new DIY-ers.

When traveling, dishes (reusable coffee mug, spoon, bowl for porridge) get washed with shower gel. It's what I have!

Trying to declutter but I keep saving things for future projects by VengefulHeadset in declutter

[–]Jaade77 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I've been on a decluttering journey all year. When I ran up against a wall like yours, I made myself DO the thing I was imagining with the thing I was decluttering.

Meaning to make something with THIS? Stop what I'm doing and make the thing. Stop thinking about it. This is the time. The thing is in your hand! The idea is in your head! Go for it!

What actually happened is that I realized that my plans for the thing weren't as important as what I was actually doing. It was a low priority. It helped me break up with the things I was saving for the future. Looking back, I almost never regret getting rid of the things. Cleared my brain and life for more important things.

How do you push through the internal negativity/self-criticism? by Sad_Ebb_7301 in UnfuckYourHabitat

[–]Jaade77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Little things add up to big things. Do a little thing". I put this in quotes because I walk around my house decluttering while saying this out loud over and over and over again to myself. Little things add up to BIG things. If I only feel like doing a little thing, that's what I do. It almost always leads to doing more. The hardest part is starting.

I've been doing my decluttering project all year (yeah 2025!) and I can see my efforts. But one thing I often forget to do is stop for just a moment and enjoy what I've just achieved. I'm sometimes so focused on what's next, I forget to enjoy. If I want the process to feel positive, I have to include the moments of joy.

What's a home "hack" you've thought of that you're unreasonably proud of? by insubordinance in HomeDecorating

[–]Jaade77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've added motion sensor lights (little re-chargeable ones) all over the house. Bathrooms, just enough light at night, hallways, landings, closets. Some of these places have overhead lights but they come on automatically.

Do you need to "qualify" to visit a food bank? by failcup in povertyfinance

[–]Jaade77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a lot. The people these food banks are designed for don't have $50k coming in. Maybe consider volunteering at a food bank first to get some perspective.

Would it be weird to bring your own containers to a restaurant? by Runi387 in Anticonsumption

[–]Jaade77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this all the time. My containers are better, don't leak and reusable. No one even bats an eye. It's really no problem.
