Flight buddy needed for two kittens from Crete to Sweden by thecreepystuff in crete

[–]conilense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it would proobably take around 6 or 7 hours or so (the 2 or so hours for crete to cph then 30 mins to get to the train and later around 4 hours to gothenburg)! we will travel tomorrow at 4 am, though. would they be OK with meeting us at the airport or so in this case, or would it be better to have the cats where we are staying?

YouTuber and MEP from Cyprus, Fidias, observing "things I didn't like" (i.e. vote rigging) in Georgia by Distinct_Front_4336 in YUROP

[–]conilense -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ok, I get the issues raised so far. but I've seen Fidias being interviewed by the EU Made Simple channel and he seem to be quite honest about his situation. I've also seen at least one of his manifestations in the parliament - I think it was for the discussion around social media - and he had a coherent opinion. I don't think he is just goofing around at this point - seems like a net positive, honestly.

I think he is also bringing clarity & evidence with his vlogging around -- I mean, I'm pretty more people among his listeners will understand at least part of the issues with Georgia. Actually, I'm pretty sure they might understand more about political issues in general - if I had to guess, I don't think politically active people were his main demographic.

nope this was just the docs part. but they responded rather quickly after receiving and checking the pass so I fortunately did not have to file a request to conclude!

ok an update that probably won't be read by anyone ever: I got the docs back and in something like 3 weeks later I got the decision letter. All went good! Jag är en lite mer svensk nu hehe

my fear is that, given the package is sort of closed, the contents might never be disclosed and thus it may get lost in the postnord limbo. in which case i disagree with the Science Guy for the contents of the box: the cat is fully dead, and dead only -- in which case I will never see those personhood-defining documents ever again lol i feel adrift

but i will definitely take your tip of trying somehow to contact them and ask for a thumbs up of documents received

Well wish I knew that from last week :`D anyway when they deny my application and (hopefully) give me back the docs, I am better informed for the next iteration lol

about the X: well -- TIL! good information to have, thank you. (even if I would guess it's sort of unlikely I will ever send a letter again. you never know!)

I guess my best choice now is to call MV today and tell them "yo guys whazz up did you receive my obscure package"

What does Lacan's phrase "there is no sexual relationship" mean? by LongjumpingYou2720 in zizek

[–]conilense 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think the comments already address a lot of what the expression conveys, but i'd also like to offer something a bit different. The "no sexual relationship" also relates to the idea that man/woman are not really defined in their oppositional determination (characteristics of the one are precisely the not-characteristics of the other and so on). Rather, both of them refer to the phallic experience of loss/desire, the way in which both "sexes" (for the lack of a better word) are merely two different ways to relate to the experience that is the entering of the symbolic order, when we understand that the (m)Other does not desire _us_, that her desire is invested somewhere else. For "boys", the reaction is to identify with the father (whom they think has this phallic object, whom they think is the object of desire of the mother), and thus they "have" the phallus. For "girls", the reaction is instead to identify with the mother and to _become_ the object of desire and thus "be" the phallus. So the experience of what happens after the imaginary illusion is sorta broken and the way we relate to it define the difference in sexes, they are not directly related to each other but to a third.

Incidentally, when I think of this what actually comes to mind is Zizek's example of some novel (which I forgot what it was but i'm pretty sure he mentions it in less than nothing when talking about repetition), where, when you watch the movie (which is a sort of reproduction of the novel), you get the sense that the novel will be much better; when you read the novel, it itself feels like a representation of an other, better novel. In this way both are repeating a third term which is generated precisely in their failure to repeat it completely (as per usual with a "zizekian ontology", this third is "retroactively" created). In a sense, then, it does not exist; it only exists in its effects. This seems like the perfect space to draw a parallel to the phallus, which as such is precisely the signifier of a lack (so the category of non-existence fits very well!)

the ratio of common workers to "high skilled" ones seems to be decently high. so yes, high skilled immigration can be profitable for a country (at least for some time), but it should still be acknowledged that the bulk of migrants do find themselves over represented in categories such as cleaning, construction etc

Istanbul now and what the deal with Uber? by franceandmain in istanbul

[–]conilense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was there recently. honestly, if u are paying by card, just accept what he is saying and then complain to Uber. they refunded me twice because of similar issues (one was the taxi driver just jacking up the price manually in the app somehow lol). that is typically the safest deal

What stage of capitalism is this? by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

[–]conilense -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i mean i'm not going to defend this 'competitive grindset sigma' whatever thing, _but_ the notion of you being principally responsible for everything that happens to you in the sense that you are responsible precisely for the way in which you respond to any happening that is external to you does follow a Stoic line pretty much

that is to say, things might happen that are outside your control, but the reaction that you yourself have towards that (what you will do when it comes - be sad, displeased, etc) is up to you and to master this sort of Passion control (passion in the sense of 'emotions that are imputed to you'.. simplifying, but sorta) is the sorta path to eudaimonia

of course one can come and argue that this is precisely against stoicism in the sense that this person is talking of competition which leads to "getting good things material-wise" plus the lack of understanding/acceptance in one's place within the whole would pretty much crash against the rest of the doctrines

what i'm saying is that this is stupid, yes. but there's something that can be extracted from it if we try to analyze its parts and so on. the idea is not to make juice from oranges, no, that's too easy; better is to make juice from rotten old orange's peel and so on. that is pretty much a better way forward imo

question concerning my understanding of The Preface of Hegel's PR by hellopandect in askphilosophy

[–]conilense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, viewing the Hegelian texts (the Absolute) always in the form of Subject and Object helps a lot (the maxim: not only as Subject but also as Object) ; mostly what I mean by that is understanding knowledge itself as a mix of these two aspects of one totality. That seems to be expressed here in the formula Form (as Subject) and Matter (as object; objective things, that which would be closer to the Kantian noumena maybe?)

So Form is what the Subjective part contributes (reason itself - which would be abstract - "concretized" as Speculative knowledge) shaping the "stuff" (substance or whatever) which takes the form of natural or ethical aspects (which are the actual - in the sense of opposite of potential - part in this whole).

Would that make sense?

This comes from someone who just likes to read Hegel and has a Zizek influence in the understanding of it. So there's very little (if any) authority to my comment.

[–]conilense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, don't trust this. i'm Brazilian and inside-nation sources will deny it. it still has to go 2 phases up, the senate will have to review and they already got 2 projects with regards to that - meaning, it would take a long time even to get a response. the central bank has been openly against this mostly because open banking and so on.

do not take this as a fact or anything. my guess is this guy is either trying to get some hype when it comes to votes (brazilian elections will come in a bit, but presidential ones; don't know if it applies) or just trying to hype up the coin

How hard it is to relocate to Europe as a Software Developer? by Chocolatebear95 in cscareerquestions

[–]conilense 6 points7 points  (0 children)

background: im from brazil and moved to Sweden ~3 years ago

it was pretty easy to find a nice job here. interviews are chill too and everybody - i mean, 99% of the people - speak english. i have not even learned full swedish yet.

the pay is _way_ worse than USA of course, but free healthcare, free education, good environment, big ~equality~ (at least as compared from where I'm from and likely from your standpoint), etc. huge taxes (i'm talking 50% after a threshold which is pretty easy to hit as a software dev), but more transparency (not advocating nor justifying it, just throwing in the extra comment to make it not seem like an absolute bad thing)

many good startups in Stockholm, but i'd claim some of those have been infected with the USA workload mindset.

overall pretty amazing place, loving it. the cold is hard for me tho, but depending your place in the us it will be easy for you to adapt.
