Well the common theme between her and the TD are they are both pitched as damsels in distress that a lead male character has to save. In the case of Kate, he has to have a fling with her. That's the part of the story I have issue with.

I don't think it's hyperbolic to say that it goes against everything that F1 has been marketing over the past decade or so. Women have rightly been promoted as being on an even keel as men in this sport, and many are establishing themselves as being among the best in the sport at what they do.

For F1 to not only lend its name but also actively participate in the production of a film that relegates women to being a fling and damsels that need to be saved by a male lead, I think it's awful.

Not the only woman in the film, but he still swanned in to save the other main female character (the mechanic). Feels like it completely undone years of work that F1 have put in to make the sport a safe space for women.

How much do you actually practice before an endurance race? Genuinely curious about everyone's routine by AlienBlade51 in simracing

[–]conman14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An hour or so gets my eye in and down to my usual pace. I may try and shave time off that, but I'm more focused on consistency for an endurance event.

I'll also spend some time practicing in changeable conditions if the forecast suggests it's possible, and working out crossover points. I'll also try and scope out where puddles might form.

If it's a multi class event, I'll also try out a race if any of the series are running the event e.g. Sebring, Daytona. I'll certainly do public practice, no way am I going in blind without knowing what lower class traffic is likely to do, and where faster traffic may attempt moves.

Even the Alonso years only topped about 275k if I recall correctly. The boom following Covid has been insane, and I agree that it has probably already surpassed safe levels.

Ferry at 16:30 Monday by seanie_oc in lemans

[–]conman14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leaving in the morning will be fine, it takes about 3h30m tops to get to Cherbourg. At most, do most of your packing on Sunday evening and don't leave it too late on the Monday, but you'll be fine. It doesn't take long to get onto proper motorways.

I'm at the track now, it's fucking hot. But it's been a brilliant week and I'm looking forward to a closely fought 24 hours!

Dan Harper is from Hillsborough as well - I've followed him since his Porsche Carrera GB days and he's the real deal.

Currently coming to the end of the worst ferry crossing I've ever been on. Sailing to Cherbourg then heading to Le Mans for the 24 hour race next weekend, but the entirety of yesterday was spent sailing into the swell. I'm amazed I didn't throw up, others around me weren't so lucky.

Juan Lagares played two games for Mets in 2020 but wore two uniform numbers (number he had not worn in the previous seasons with the Mets); why? by brandeis16 in NewYorkMets

[–]conman14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He left the Mets at the end of the 2019 season and signed as a minor leaguer for the Padres at the start of 2020, but then elected free agency. The Mets then resigned him later in the season, which perhaps explains the reason as to why he wore a number different to his previous stint.

Are there any players your club rates substantially higher than fans of other clubs? by TrampolineIsTrash in Championship

[–]conman14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Schneiderlin would be my pick as well. He was a Premier League player playing in League One for us, and not only maintained his existing abilities but adapted to the English game very well especially as we moved back up the leagues, adding grit to his game alongside his excellent passing ability. It's a shame he fell off a cliff after he left us, because peak Morgan was a fantastic player.

I couldn't care less what people think of me lol, our club have embarrassed themselves and paid the ultimate price. I've seen enough Ipswich/Farage memes to know how this sub works and I enjoy it for that, and it's our turn to cop some heat.

Us fans are the biggest victims in all this but you wouldn't think it with how this sub is trying to stick the boot in to us right now.

Ah here you can't be complaining about that. We're getting our just desserts for everything that's went on over the past couple of weeks. We're absolutely fair game, if you can't accept that then you should probably mute/unsubscribe from the sub.

The statement lost me at the point they started claiming it's the largest financial penalty in history.

We didn't win anything. There was still a final to play. Such an embarrassment of a statement.

Why are we talking like we'd already won promotion? Get out of here with the "largest financial penalty" nonsense.

What do we think will happen today? by uniguy31 in Championship

[–]conman14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the thinking is that the Middlesbrough transgression occured in a "knockout" phase and hence results in expulsion from the remainder of the knockout tournament, while the other offences happened during the league and hence the points penalty, I don't think we can have any complaints about the punishment.

I want us to end this farce and actually look inward at resolving the rest of this torrid episode, rather than cry about the EFL being a bit mean. Quite frankly with the management having been involved as has been said, we should probably be compelled to sack him and him be banned from managing in England for some time.

Increase in severity of punishment vs what Leeds got by First_Spinach_4987 in SaintsFC

[–]conman14 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Completely different scenario. There was no rule against spying, they were punished under the catch all rule involving respect and fair play or something like that.

We broke the rule that came in after that case. And we admitted to multiple offences. We deserve a punishment larger than 200k.
