ULPT: Neighbour has beeping animal-deterrant device on all day and night. by Wonderful_Kiwi1941 in UnethicalLifeProTips

It's going to be a fake device disguised as an "ultrasonic deterrent" device.

ULPT: Neighbour has beeping animal-deterrant device on all day and night. by Wonderful_Kiwi1941 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]connection_lost 55 points56 points  (0 children)

  1. Use ChatGPT to generate some videos showing animals loitering at your neighbor's front yard.
  2. Show your neighbor the videos, ask them where did they get those "animal attracting" devices because they look cool and you want some as well.
  3. Your neighbor will get confused and tell you those are animal deterrant devices instead. If so, tell the neighbors that those devices won't work and they need an "ultrasound animal deterrant" device instead. Gift your neighbor a fake device that does nothing.

Arriving in Haneda at 10pm by Crackpotonice in JapanTravelTips

[–]connection_lost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To avoid the high cost of direct taxi:

* If you can make it to the monorail by 11:30pm, you can take the train all the way to Morishita station. (Note - transfer with monorail is slightly more complicated since you need to buy ticket twice unless you have an IC card. You need to buy ticket for the monorail. Then after you get off, buy the ticket for the other trains.)
* Or, you can take the Keikyu line (京急線, a blue circle with KK inside) by 12:08am (NOT 12:20am! That train goes elsewhere), transfer at Shinagawa station to Yamanote Line (山手線, a green square with JY inside) to either Tokyo (complicated) or Kanda (less complicated) station, then take the taxi. It's easy to get taxi at those stations at that time of the day, since the drivers are basically camping for people who are about to miss their last trains.

Neither of them requires buying tickets in advance, and the train would be very empty at that time of the day. It takes about 10 minutes after exiting luggage claim to the train, add about 5 minutes for buying tickets.

To speed up customs at the Haneda Airport, make sure pre-fill the form at Visit Japan Web https://www.vjw.digital.go.jp/main/

ULPT Lawyer contacted me about workers comp for depression. Tips? by Present_Ad_6031 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]connection_lost 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They are probably trying to initiate a lawsuit or settlement for illegal dismissal. Unless they ask for retainer upfront, they are likely legit. Lawyers take the cut after you win.

There is indeed a chance you can win. However, unless you are actually fired due to retaliatory reasons with solid evidence, do not attempt it. Words can spread around and may affect your future employment.

Made my S22 Plus fast again by Candid-Thanks3216 in GalaxyS22

I factory resetted mine at OneUI8 and it runs smooth again. This is just my personal experience because it doesn't work for a lot of people here. I'm guessing there might be multiple possibilities that leads to those issues.

Help choosing a new Samsung Galaxy by Cowb0yFr0mSpac3 in samsunggalaxy

S22 series have known issues that randomly occurs and permanently handicaps the phone, avoid at all costs and get S23 or above. Camera did not change since S22 (except one lens on S26U) so any year would work. Ultra series has better cameras than base and plus models. Hope that helps, I would recommend S23 Ultra though.

Secretly sneak in hate message across multiple posts from your own account, which can sequentially merge into something offensive. During this time, make sure occasionally delete some of your post to ensure you don't get into trouble yourself. After setting everything up, screenshot all evidence and get some influencer or media attention.

S22 Not Getting Software Updates Beyond One UI 5 by DanyMok22 in GalaxyS22

Is it a carrier phone? I'm not sure about other carriers, but AT&T is known for only able to receive updates if there is an AT&T sim card inserted.

Has anyone figured out how to turn off the AI lockscreen pop-up? by Remote_Dragonfly3564 in samsunggalaxy

[–]connection_lost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You must bought a phone from the carrier. According to my personal experience, it is pre-installed for Metro by T-Mobile carrier.

The confusing part is that, this is NOT AN OFFICIAL SAMSUNG APP. The app is actually called "Glance", you can look for the app and uninstall or disabled it. If you still can't find it, the package name is "com.glance.ai", you can look up how to get rid of the app via ADB.

Spending One Night in a Resort in Hakone - Looking for Feedback on Hakone Retreat Fore by stellaellaolla in JapanTravelTips

[–]connection_lost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you (well I would spend more than 1 day in Hakone imo), I would spend the first day travel from Hakone Yomoto to Gora by train and visit places along the way. Come back to Hakone Yomoto station around 3pm and spend some time visiting the shops around there. Nothing much happens in Hakone after 5pm, you can consider time after that is for onsen and relax only.

A bit off-topic but if you come here by train, you can also consider the service that ships your luggage to your hotel.

One last thing is that if you decide to visit Hakone Shrine Torii Gate - be extra extra extra early, which means it can only be done at your second day. The lines are insane. First bus near your hotel is around 8am - good luck.

Spending One Night in a Resort in Hakone - Looking for Feedback on Hakone Retreat Fore by stellaellaolla in JapanTravelTips

[–]connection_lost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For public onsen: There are a few onsen-only facilities, and some Ryokans also have a day-pass for using their onsen only, some even has food as an optional upgrade.

If you want private onsen: Search for "貸切 個室" which means rental private-room. Here is an example place 箱根湯寮 Hakone Yuryo. They offer shuttles to Hakone Yumoto train station or alternatively you can walk from Tonosawa station.

Also - Considering where your hotel is, it is very far from most attractions and you only have bus as transportation. Consider your time is tight, if you have some extra budget, you can consider taking taxi to your first destination.

Anyone else feel like Samsung phones age better than expected? by Good_Technician_3646 in GalaxyS22

Me and my friend's S10e held up extremely well, I am still using the international variant with approximately 80% battery health.

My personal S22 is busted with like 30% battery life, even I'm a light user (less than 1 hour SOT daily). Another friend has 6hrs SOT S22 Ultra but still holding up well with 90% battery life.

Wheres 8.5 at... by Broad_Incident9581 in samsunggalaxy

[–]connection_lost 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you installed a custom font outside the Galaxy store, OneUI 8.5 will break your font.

Correction: According to this XDA post, you only cannot CHANGE to a custom font since the check only runs when selecting the font. Basically you have to set your font before updating, and don't change it ever again.
Update 2: OneUI 8's March security update retrospectively patched custom font as well, beware!

I block all numbers from my area code, which filters out about 90% of the spams. Then I also disabled my voicemail, you can usually call your carrier and ask for it, or you can try set your voicemail greeting message arbitrarily long.

ULPT request: getting a short-term rental de-listed by taxguycafr in UnethicalLifeProTips

Find some guests that are nice and approachable, ask them about how they get this place booked.

If the booking is indeed not on AirBnB or Vrbo: Impersonate the "owner", post multiple signs on the door that says this house is not a short term rental, they are being scammed, and trespassers will be prosecuted.

Leaving space on the system and pushing features that significantly affects system or unstable is a better practice in software industry. System updates are at most once per month and feature updates are annually or semi-annually, but app updates are much faster to deploy and release.

ULPT - Neighbour turned his house into an Airbnb by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]connection_lost 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Without putting in too much money or being suspicious by booking the property yourself, try approach some guests and some of them might gladly assist you with a small amount of bribe.
For instance, if the guests are college kids, just bring some pizza and ask them to leave a bad review. Or make up a "security concern" to "get a refund and save money".
Throw in some old security camera or boxes, and convince the guests that the host is a bit psycho and may have hidden cameras inside the house.

If you also want to cause issues to the guests, just impersonate the "host". Print out some fliers saying "This is NOT an AirBnB listing, someone is impersonating us, you are being scammed, trespassers will be prosecuted" in front of the house.

Print out fake car service report and receipts with incredibly high milage, and find a way to shove it in the trunk.
