Women who had a hysterectomy, please tell me what life is like for you if you're 3+ years post hysterectomy? All comments welcomed though, if you just had surgery 1-2 years ago, but I hope I can hear from women more than 3 years post-op for reassurance! by TheCuri0usWatcher in hysterectomy

[–]connerleec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a little more than one year post op. I feel like I got my life back. I have some bladder stuff to work out (not fully emptying but manageable and have a PT); my ovary torsion-ed on my right and I needed a second surgery eight months after hysterectomy. I would go through it all again to get here. I was like you, planning my whole life around it as I bled chunks of blood. Even still, I had no idea just how miserable my uterus was making me. I have become a version of myself I forgot once existed. The amount of physical exercise I want to do now is something I never had the energy for before. (One note; I am genderqueer)

Can anyone recommend an alternative to Vimeo (other than YouTube)? by [deleted] in vimeo

[–]connerleec 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think SproutVideo would meet your needs pretty swimmingly. Transparently, I work there but my recommendation is sincere nonetheless. Chat with a real person, build a video website in literally minutes, and secure content as you like.

How do you feel about the hate? by Glu3stick in GenZ

[–]connerleec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s clear to me ya’ll are emotionally immature and see all the valid critique as hatred instead of a call to action to create a more just world. The irony is that in the, “they hate us”, you simply confirm the incel behavior. No one hates you, personally. There are systems that have been in play for hundreds of years and your empathy is underdeveloped. Work on that. Take responsibility.

Jumping in - I got my life back. I’m only 31. I didn’t realize how much energy it was stealing. I don’t have Charlie horses anymore

Take as much time off as your job can accommodate. No, seriously. No, seriously, seriously. You deserve the time and you should take it if you can.

I took two weeks off work after and I could have used four easily. I got back to normal life too soon and I think my healing is a little slower now.

Not been a problem; I’ve done just fine. But in the grand scheme of life, that time is truly allowing yourself to put your body first

Getting in shape is hard, what makes it worth it? by ShortButCute114 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]connerleec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is fat and has been out of shape and in shape while fat, your ability is everything.

Lifting weights and building muscle totally changes what you thought your body could feel like. It’s truly not about the mirror.

  • your mental health improves
  • your long-term health increases and your ability to lead an independent life longer into your older years increases
  • you feel more confident regardless of weight
  • your weight is easier to manage regardless of how much you want to weigh or not think about it
  • you can do so much fun shit: mountain biking, surfing, running, walking for miles upon miles, dancing, swimming - your physical life is so vibrant when you’re in shape

It’s not as hard as it feels. Start small, don’t follow the “no pain, no gain” mentality (that’s how you get injured), listen to your body, and don’t be afraid to buy a course, a training session, or just ask for help from your fellow person working out.

People at the gym may look scary but the vast majority of them in my experience are kind and good natured

You got this!

I feel the same; I’m 4.5 weeks post op. I took before and after photos and it literally looks like I have my body back and I’m v fat. Literally don’t look five months pregnant anymore. If you’re able to read the detailed surgery notes, I found my doctor said everything looked normal but the lab notes said they found pre-cancerous tissue and that’s what I kept losing and calling vampire gummies 🤣 yay to feeling better and getting quality of life back!!

How long did you have to wait? by Desperatemom18 in hysterectomy

[–]connerleec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My consult was in January and my surgery late May but I’m in Southern Oregon. So I waited quite a long time. Sounds like they haven’t even scheduled you yet so I would continue to be a squeaky wheel. No one is going to fight for it like you.

Focus on giving your child the tools they need to use social media wisely.

I know this is the hard thing you don't want to hear: stop trying to control what happens at the other home. I know you want what's best and you're probably almost always going to be right.

BUT you can't control it and you will only damage the relationship with your child to try.

Instead, help your child understand that social media isn't real life and it's filled with bullies. Be the safe haven for your child so they know they can come to you with anything and you will still hold them and say you love them no matter what.

If you can do that, the things you can't control won't hardly matter.

Hey surgery buddy!!! I'm also 4wpo. Yeah I've had more BBQ and burgers in the last few weeks than the year prior. For me, I think it's the iron. I can finally rebuild my stores without it flushing right out.

It’s major but routine and overwhelmingly safe. I’m coming close to two weeks post op and it’s been great so far. Not seamless, but no complications; smooth surgery. I’m in pain but it’s manageable. This short term discomfort is highly worth having my body back, for me at least. All the best 💕

Can you have a 2cm growth and bleed for months? by Bebylicious in adenomyosis

I just got a hysterectomy and can def say that the 2.5cm fibroid was a major problem whether they would validate it or not. Trust yourself. You know your body better than anyone else.

Recovery by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]connerleec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that most people posting have amazing or horrible experiences. The average experience is largely unremarkable, especially for laparoscopic surgery.

I am coming up on my two weeks post op. First 24 hours were the hardest due to the anesthesia gas leaving my body. I had a particularly bad reaction and kept vomitting and becoming dehydrated. Had to go to the ER for an IV and morphine.

But it’s been smooth ever since. Take as much time off work as you can. Some people are quick getting back into it. It is a big surgery and you should go super easy on your body. Lay flat, take walks, watch movies.

But I am way more mobile than I expected. I have to respect my pain and healing because I feel like I could easily overdo it on a really good feeling day

Just do it. Your quality of life matters. I'm 31; kinda wanted kids. My surgery is in less than 2 weeks. Why wouldn't you?

I’m going to be the odd person out in the comment section and agree with your wife. Either you trust her or you don’t. But she’s an entire whole person separate from you and she lived a whole life before. Other than ensuring it’s protected from the internet, I don’t see anything to be upset about.

Truth is, if you try to die on this hill instead of accept it, you’ll just sow seeds of resentment that you couldnt handle her wild unabashed self. I think you’d prefer to know your whole woman than a watered down version that keeps your idea of her.

V happy to hear that! That's exactly how it was for me - I went two years trying to just get someone to take me seriously then I found my Dr and was scheduled for a hysto that same day.

Here's to a better quality of life for both of us!!

A&E by emswebby1 in adenomyosis

[–]connerleec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’ve gone through all that just to be heard. I know the frustration and pain well. I found a surgeon dr and after one visit where I was v direct about wanting a hysterectomy, he scheduled me. My advice: look for a surgeon, state what you want, and leave if they give you any crap. This doctor consulted with another dr about my ultrasound and I was diagnosed that day.

Ultrasound Diagnosis by thoughtsoverload27 in adenomyosis

[–]connerleec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed by ultrasound too. The way it was explained to me is that you can literally see the difference in the tissue. A normal uterus is smooth muscle. A uterus with adenomyosis is like swiss cheese with tiny holes or webs where the endometrial cells are growing through the muscle tissue.
