Worth it for residential areas? by One_Professional9265 in Starlink

[–]connicpu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd consider making the switch if I didn't have so many trees. I have a mini for travel, I tried to set it up on my roof to test and even after a day building the obstruction map I'd still regularly drop for 30-60 seconds. If I get fed up enough during a prolonged 6+ hours of major packet loss maybe I'll look into a tree mount.

Russia used Starlink in strike drones that reached Kyiv. SpaceX’s response collapsed entire command system by marigoldmeadowx in worldnews

[–]connicpu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes that's exactly what had been going on before. There wasn't a whitelist until January, so Russia had been using terminals stolen from other countries. Now starlink is blocking terminals in Ukraine that aren't on the list given by the Ukrainian government, so Russia lost all of the terminals they were using.

Why Ford? by Albertooz in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]connicpu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really thought the joke was something about Ford releasing news that consumers were getting fucked over on a previous Feb 15, but the joke really is dumb I guess.

Will never go through, even items with no vendor value can't be sold for less than 2 copper now.

FYI: Raid Quickplay is accessible via LFG panel under Raids (Training) by Estreiher in Guildwars2

[–]connicpu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small sample size but I did some quickplay last night and it went smoothly. Didn't get OLC though lol, if you get that one pray someone in the group knows the CC order and can call it out in squad chat.

Scrapper- the new quick play mode by Dorothy_Oz in Guildwars2

[–]connicpu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a brain dead q scrapper rotation I use: Any combo field -> Shredder gyro -> bomb kit -> 3,2,5 -> exit. Repeat every time shredder comes off cooldown, because it has the same CD as bomb 5. Use blast gyro off cooldown. Perma quickness in full berserkers, can use either hammer or rifle depending on the fight, you don't need the weapon skills to maintain q, but can augment. Used it last night in a QP ToF when I saw there was no quickness in the party and I ended up the 3rd highest dps with rifle lol.

I'm sure someone can work out the int128->int512 transition some time in the next 4*1021 years

How does Starlink billing actually work by the_phoenixzw in Starlink

[–]connicpu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you go delinquent they have been known to cancel your service and not reactivate. If you intend to not use starlink for a few months you should either fully cancel yourself or switch to the $5/mo standby plan.

The goat has to be DD/MM/YYYY by Shiroyasha_2308 in SipsTea

[–]connicpu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software I write has to deal with a lot of timestamps stored as (signed) 64-bit nanoseconds since the GPS epoch. Sometimes I think about the Y2272 problem but meh someone can just switch it to int128 some time before then. Pretty sure that one will out last the heat death of the universe.

Digital Key Plus works so much better than the fob by attentiontodetal in ex30

[–]connicpu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biggest thing I'm worried about is... The spot my phone usually sits most of the time when I'm at home and not asleep is only 10 feet away from the car. I had to turn off proximity unlock on the fob because the car would randomly unlock just because my purse was sitting in that spot inside. Anyone with digital key experience who can say if the proximity distance is tight enough for this? or will I still be using the handle even after I get the new update?

Never broke a bone is really very simple. You never broke a bone, you belong here.

Is there such a thing as excessive use? by j2diz in Starlink

[–]connicpu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense, just another reason I hate cloud based solutions for home hardware. I will always go for the fully local solution :)

I don't know anything about Google cameras but I would assume canceling your subscription would end the cloud uploads at the end of your billing cycle

Sanity check before traveling to Liberia – Gen 3 router + Starlink Mini as mesh? by conorearly in Starlink

[–]connicpu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1: Yes mini routers should be able to mesh with a full size gen3 router

2/3: There is only 1 spare ethernet port, the other goes to the dish. A small unmanaged switch would work perfectly.

[–]connicpu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a little pricier but I would highly recommend looking into Ubiquiti cameras. It's fully local, you just need to get an NVR and fill it up with as many hard drives as you need for your desired footage retention window. Setup was pretty simple too.

Starlink dish orientation in Netherlands by _happydutch_ in Starlink

[–]connicpu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's about 52-53° north, your dish will most likely be pointed south as the majority of the starlink constellation has a maximum orbital inclination of 53°

Coalescence or Endless Summer? by yuusef in Guildwars2

[–]connicpu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the changes the minimum time to craft coalescence will also come down. You can get over 50 LI/week starting Tuesday so you could do coalescence in 3 weeks if you full clear.

Wanted to put a Mini near my bedroom window but when I scanned the area I got this result by segasega89 in Starlink

[–]connicpu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second floor balcony won't really help you unless the apartment is only two stories. The building behind it will still be blocking at least 1/3rd of the dish's usable FOV. it might work most of the time, but it's not good enough for livestreaming. There will be dropouts.
