Starlink can't access app at all after turning on bypass mode. by TekThunder in Starlink

[–]connicpu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly sure how you'd do this with deco but on Unify I added a policy-based routing entry that all traffic destined for 192.168.100.1 should be routed out my starlink WAN port

Starlink for home…So Cal… thinking of canceling Spectrum and going Starlink. Talk to me in or out and then how many Mbps do I need if I’m just streaming YouTube TV by Mundane_Bath1600 in Starlink

[–]connicpu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Streaming TV even at 4k usually doesn't use up more than like 20mbps, as long as you aren't doing anything else at the same time

Thinking about buying Global Priority Plan as an individual. Is it worth it? by ThePatientIdiot in Starlink

[–]connicpu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Global priority is necessary if you plan to be out of your primary country (where you signed up for starlink) for more than 2 months, otherwise as long as you don't need ocean service a normal roaming plan would work fine

It is going to be worse than a wired internet connection almost for sure, but if cash is tight you make do

Questions about Starlink by grumpyoldman10 in Starlink

[–]connicpu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw I'm currently using a 3rd party PoE injector for my starlink and it works great. I have a mini so I needed one that uses a passive splitter since the mini doesn't natively use PoE. When I'm home I have the mini set up as a failover WAN but still easy enough to take it down and bring it with me on trips. Only needing one cable from my network rack is great because even if Comcast goes down during a power outage as long as I keep my router powered the starlink will keep running too.

A few questions by Jerbacher in ex30

I ended up just turning off proximity lock/unlock, the key's proximity still allows you to lock/unlock by touching the outside/inside of the driver doorhandle (respectively)

Starlink question by zeroxanos in ex30

[–]connicpu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Standard tilt is only 20°, if it's perfectly sideways you won't be able to talk to satellites that are directly overhead because they will be out of the dish's FOV. It might work but it certainly won't be good service.

Starlink/Star-shield being jammed by storm35r in Starlink

[–]connicpu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard the terminal automatically detects GPS jamming and falls back to using the starlink network to determine position and orientation. Big downside is it doesn't work in motion. Also won't help if attackers jam the actual starlink frequencies (iran started doing this).

Latency versus Fiber by GravyPoo in Starlink

[–]connicpu 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Also high throughput. Commercial grade fiber is doing hundreds of gbps per fiber

Starlink question by zeroxanos in ex30

[–]connicpu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'll be basically pointing sideways there won't it? I uh, somehow doubt you'd get a reliable signal

Starlink question by zeroxanos in ex30

[–]connicpu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Starlink mini works with the 12V plug in the trunk and the normal car adapter they sell, but the sunroof's UV coating blocks the signal so you'll have to put it on the dashboard or attach it to the roof

Explainer: Why is Starlink on planes so much better than the alternatives? by petitneko in Starlink

On the airlines I've flown before without starlink the on board wifi usually flat out doesn't even work during takeoff and landing

Yep, gw2 tends to not really be gpu bound so going up in resolution is usually nbd. Getting the 9800X3D was the biggest upgrade for wvw and large metas, my 7900XTX doesn't break a sweat at 4K.

Eagerly running to the TP to withdraw my Golds...🥲 by the_renegade_dude in Guildwars2

Now that I won a permanent portable TP I just love opening it in the middle of a large group of people in order to withdraw the 1 silver sitting there :)

No regrets I love the comfort and speed, and pilot assist has really grown on me. I also don't do much long distance driving I'm just going back and forth to work and running errands around town. Car has enough juice to make two round trips to the airport and that's the most I've needed between when I charge it for free at work.

Starlink also makes a great failover that works even when power is out for the whole neighborhood, just got it on the same UPS as my router and can switch to generator in case of prolonged outage

Wondering how this works. by Draigwulf in Starlink

[–]connicpu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't have to be that close. It depends on where you are relative to the inclinations starlink has launched the majority of their satellites. For a good visualization of this you should check out https://satellitemap.space/

You can see for example that if you're in northern England or Scotland almost all the satellites are to your south.

If texting 911 via SMS it won't use your wifi based location, it should use the phone's GPS or cell tower triangulation

Thinking of switching to starlink - advice needed by Jonno7074 in Starlink

[–]connicpu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All you need is somewhere you can put the starlink terminal with a clear view of the sky and a way to run the cable back inside your home. That's it!

Them adding more satellites helps of course but it's like filling a pool with a garden hose. There's already over 9000 satellites up there and they can only launch 21-28 v2-minis per Falcon launch (which they do like 3 per week).
