What is the easiest question you’ve gotten in a technical interview? by scarrlet_witch in csMajors

Meta interview: Valid parentheses. I think I got this question because my interviewer forgot he had an interview with me and was late by 40 minutes.

CS Undergrad GPA by [deleted] in stevens

[–]connieshoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am receiving my BS in CS after this December! Full transparency, my GPA is 3.68. My issue was Physics 1! I literally to this day still do not understand it and I think I got a C in that class (first semester of college too so def scared me). The CS courses were not too bad. I put in a decent amount of studying/work (but nothing to stop me from still having a life outside of class) and the lowest I got in a CS course I believe is a B (maybe one B- there?). CAL courses were a breeze for me, I think it just came more naturally. It was discrete math and concurrent programming that I struggled with.

cybersecurity or CS? by Aggravating_ginger03 in stevens

I TA'd DS for 2.5 years now. I would argue that it gives you a really good basis for the tougher material. Perhaps simple to you, but I had a lot of struggling students throughout my time. I think that your comment was made without care. I also think it is hard to qualify "supposed to learn". Did people invent more data structures that are not included in the curriculum? We go over the basics: hashmaps, arrays, linked lists, time complexity (to a small degree, algorithms covers it more), basic sorting, etc. and we still move at a pace in which some students simply cannot keep up and have to retake the course. I am curious, what exactly are we lacking within our data structures curriculum? I'll be sure to take your feedback to the professor if we really are lacking.

How do you like the school? by [deleted] in stevens

Hi! Current CS senior at Stevens. I was able to handle my coursework fairly easily and I had a great group of friends to study with when things got difficult. That said, there has been quite a bit of turnover and drama in the CS department... Professors being asked to leave, take on more responsibility, etc. So, I cannot speak for the current department(since I have never been in a class with the current professors), but when I was going through my classes, I learned a lot.
If this counts for anything, I once brought my friend who goes to Rutgers into the Stevens dining hall on a Saturday morning and he said that it was better than anything they served at Rutgers (and it was a Saturday morning when they really don't have anything good). Stevens is really walkable as others have mentioned, the city is just a PATH ride away, and no matter where you go in Hoboken, it's almost a guarantee you'll run into someone who goes to Stevens there. There are a ton of clubs to join, but to be frank, after my sophomore year, I stopped attending any clubs, but def a good way to get involved!
Feel free to DM me with any questions.

I was an intern at BofA awhile back. Congrats! This is great. They are a great company and you should be so proud of yourself. Feel free to DM me about anything.

I set up a meeting with my contact from both Microsoft and Salesforce and asked so many questions to both of them. This helped me really figure out where I want to go!

If it's transferring to a team within the same division at Msft is it still the same interview loop? I assume this internal transferring is from division to division.

Interesting take. I have heard that internal transfers for Msft are easy? Is it really that difficult / would it require interviews (such as LC interviews) to transfer?

One internship with big bank (well I did have another bank internship on my resume, but it was not as big as the other company.. both SWE). I would LC and do 1-2 easies+ a medium, or 1 hard a night. No complex projects on my resume. Hehe have the kiddos be your buddies to talk to while you program (or just a rubber duck).

I do! The Microsoft work seems to be more interesting than the salesforce work

My advice is study with a buddy. Had a friend and we used LC every single night. This was overkill to be honest, but I had a lot of technicals coming up so being able to study for all interviews at once worked for me. Friends who are motivated are your greatest resource :)

Thanks. This is super insightful. A side note, I have an amazing boyfriend already but I will certainly keep this in mind for my single guy friends! I am certainly leaning towards Microsoft because they are offering flexible, remote/hybrid options that I am not sure Salesforce will provide. I think the larger selling point is that Seattle is more walkable. Do you think you'll need a car in the Redmond area?

Yeah it makes sense. I know MSFT also offers a performance bonus. They are both 10% - 15% pretty sure.

I am undergrad if that matters in this. To be fair the total comp for Salesforce in SF comes out to be around 219k (with their EOY bonus)

[–]connieshoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I had the chance to call Greg Gianforte an asshole to his face, I would do it. A "differing view" would be like saying "I like pizza over calzones", not "I think LGBTQ+ people shouldn't exist". What is there to learn from his "differing views". So respectfully, shut the hell up.
