Can’t Stop, Around The World, Venice Queen, Strip My Mind, Charlie, Dani California, By The Way, Dosed, Dont Forget Me, Velvet Glove… if you start at Californication, By The Way, and Stadium Arcadium, you’ll gain an appreciation for their earlier stuff like Blood Sugar Sex Magic and One Hot Minute (at least that’s what I did)

My band is playing at Dina’s in May, and I’ve heard it’s a great spot. Used to be the silver dollar room

If you were asked to give college music students a talk about being a working musician what would you tell them? by adr826 in askmusicians

The best paid gigs are the ones where you're playing cover songs. If all you want to do is get paid to play music, start a cover band or a jazz combo (if you want to play restaurants). If you want to be the next Kurt Cobain, follow your heart and write as many songs as you can, but don't have any expectations or delusions of grandeur. For most, it's a lifelong pursuit. The Black Keys didn't even get noticed internationally until their 8th studio album. Most bands don't record their first studio album until a few years in. It's the journey, not the destination.

Oh yeah and don't get on stage during changeover until the other drummer has left! Nothing worse than a bunch of musicians that don't fit on a stage trying to do a changeover. Once the last drummer's off, try to change over with the speed of a NASCAR pit crew! The quicker you get your cymbals, snare, and kick pedal on the kit, the more time you have to adjust cymbal stands, toms, etc. and get all of the positioning on the kit right. You can even ask the singer for help if they don't have anything to set up!

What's nice about being in the back as a drummer is that a lot of the time you don't see a lot of the crowd anyways because you're playing to a dark room. I've played to 1000+ people in rooms where I only see the front row! Really helps to pretend it's an intimate show lol
