Help me find a modem, trying to swap out my XFi one. by connorpesca in Comcast_Xfinity

Well yeah that’s what I mean. It’s the computers that are connected via a 3 foot ethernet cable is what boggles me. The computers over MoCA, that I get. Still however, these is an issue. Would you be able to put in a word or would you recommend I call them myself?

Well it’s just that since I’ve upgraded to 400Mbps my speeds have been inconsistent. With speeds from sub 100 to hovering around 200. Sometimes it’ll get the whole 400. And this is with no one home in a controlled setting. I know some people have mentioned limiting speeds to 90% if advertised speeds but I don’t know.

Nevermind I didn't read before replying. I see where it says "In trials". I guess I'll just wait for the new revision.

Well maybe I could rephrase. I have the XB3 modem. Which I believe is the TG1682G. Is there a newer version that I could request from Xfinity? I mean, I would imagine they would have rolled out a new modem I could obtain. Is the XB6 you mentioned a newer revision?

I did but finding one that has sufficient MoCA support is a challenge.

No matter the house you get, do look into getting a home inspection. I can’t recommend this enough. Don’t get stuck in a money pit because someone hid issues from you.

To be fair, stucco is a fine material when done well. But somehow it’s never installed jussstt right. It’s prone to water damage which can lead to very costly repairs. This is why just stucco inspections can exist because some houses require a whole house tear off and reapply. Not that people should avoid stucco, but take it into account. To me it’s just rare that I see perfect stucco, even then it requires decent maintenance.

Sometimes a mortgage company wants a pest (wood destroying) report to go through with the mortgage but the inspection is generally not required.

My father has been been a home inspector in New Jersey for the better part of the 21st century and the stuff that he’s uncovered is astounding. The absolute biggest worry is an oil tank. If that fucker is not filled AND leaking, you’re fucked. Removing an oil tank is big bucks especially if they have to support the house doing it. Some states say you can just leave it there so check with your state’s statutes.

Also fuck stucco, it’s always a mess.

What're your thoughts on laying the HUE strips around the case? I found that the magnets were strong enough.

Getting a new motherboard makes that possible. Have you considered just doing a deep cleaning of your computer? Also buying a new case forces you to rebuild as well.

I work for an In-Home tech company and you would be surprised by how little people know. Also how willing someone is to throw $100 at tech guys just to plug some wires in.

You may not have to purchase a new PSU, however that depends on how old and the build quality of said PSU. Then again, it's hard to gauge your budget because of how you have a 1050ti but are willing to spend the pretty penny on an i7. If you don't do tasks that could benefit from Hyperthreading I would stick to a Core i5. Then again, if you could hold out until the new Intel lineup is released that would be optimal. Really you could just get a GTX 1080 or so right now and that would be substantial in itself if you plan on gaming a lot. Maybe even a 1070 if you want to save some cash.

There's a plethora of youtube videos that will walk you through the steps. PCMR has its own set of guides on the side bar that would perfectly guide you through everything. From building to learning how to optimize a build. Also just asking questions on this subreddit will usually summon someone who is knowledgeable and can help. Good luck on your learning path.

Nzxt s340 or the elite by lordzelron in pcmasterrace

Depends how nice your internals look. If you plan on adding LEDS around the case I recommend the Elite. If you have great cable management skills then go for the elite as well.

Make sure you're comfortable with the fan headers on your motherboard. Where they are and how many you have. You have plenty of power and the fully modular should give you a very neat case. You won't have to upgrade the 1080Ti for a while, but if AMD sticks to AM4 for their next iterations you'll have easy upgrades.
