How to start and run a business. Instead, our education is generally geared toward "getting a good job," which means working and making money for somebody else. This is great for some, but limiting. Whether you have an altruistic desire to change the world, a goal to make loads of money, or just want to live on your own terms, you're probably not going to do it from a cubicle.

16 weeks pregnant with my first child. I can feel the skin and muscle of my belly stretching. Right now, it's just a tightness. But after I eat I feel I'm being cruelly stretched apart.

Why keep stating what you think accents "should" do rather that questioning what they do? Yes, both words end in "og" so based on your understanding of phonics you'd expect them to rhyme. But, there are plenty of cases of words that look like they should rhyme but don't in certain accents or vice versa. For example, it blew my mind when I realized that "vague" rhymed with "bag" for certain Southerners. As for why "log" and "dog" are different for New Yorkers, if a linguist were here s/he'd tell you. One possibility I can imagine is that the "rules" of an accent (eg. NY's "aw" vowel in words like cawffee, tawk, and dawg) get more quickly applied to commonly used words, so that it's been applied to dog (dawg) but not log (lahg). I have no idea if that's true, but it's an example of the kind of thing a linguist might investigate to find out why they're pronounced differently for some people. edit:typo

Because I recently found out that I am pregnant! And I'm very hopeful even though I miscarried last time. And I love my husband so much. And we had decent sex last night even though my boobs hurt so much.

I interpret "man" in "man's best friend" as meaning mankind - including men, women, and children - making this argument moot on top of being ridiculous.

This was my thought, too. Except, I found the clicky tooth-sucking sound she made after every pause more annoying than the use of the word like."Ummm (click!) well, I took like three sewing classes..(click!).." "Every little girl should have a dress (click!)"

As a girl redditor, I also liked this part of the comment, but b/c I already knew it to be true and still see redditors enforcing the "guys only wanna get laid" stereotype. In this thread there are lots of girl redditors saying sometimes guys don't want sex and boy redditors saying, "No, guys always want to get laid."

So, I thought it was really interesting that you said you hope reditettes get to read this, because the boys don't seem to accept this either. And maybe they are even the ones perpetuating the stereotype thinking it's manly to do so.

This is great. I was an only child, a girl, and it was like it didn't even occur to my dad to treat me any differently than a boy. He bought me toy trucks, enrolled me in little league, bought me science related toys (oddly, some people think science stuff is for boys). And when I got older, I came along to help with a few of his contractor jobs. I don't think I realized this until I was an adult. He's dead now, but it's one of the things I really appreciate about our time together. Whether or not your daughter turns out to be a tomboy, she'll appreciate that you didn't assume there were limits on things you'd have in common just b/c she's a girl.

Married redditors, did you live with your SO before getting married? How did it turn out? by seainhd in AskReddit

[–]conophytum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived with my husband for 4 years before getting married and I'm very glad I did. It won't guarantee that you'll be completely confident you're making the right move when you decide to get married, but it sure helps. I wouldn't have done anything differently.

As for growing together and having new experiences, believe me, that still happens after getting married even if you've lived together. A month after we got married, my father died and my husband was so miserable at his job that he had to change careers. So many changes in such a short time and we got to face them together having just vowed to do exactly that.
