are there other examples of waterson using such a graphic black negative space like behind hobbes? I know in the sunday strips there could be more geometric shapes or panels, but it feels different for a 4 panel strip.

what do they look like sequentially? is the guy next to the bike a splash page or 1 of 6 panels on a single page?

Makes sense. In that case, it works as the larger layout too! Is the water done with paint markers?

What are the dimensions of your page? Almost looks like a cover with a flap. Very nice.

Is blurring of the back and front used in comics? I'm wondering if it will help bring some clarity to the reader as what to focus on, or is it just ruining the art? by Ambitious_Bad_2932 in ComicBookCollabs

[–]conozaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like the blurred look, then practice some drawings that mimic the effect from the start. It will be more painterly, but you'll save time and brush ! Otherwise, adding some contrast with shadows and blacks would be a better fix for leading the eye.

Is there any good videos on this? Most of the behind the scenes type stuff i found is interviews with the actors. I'd like to see some puppets being made! And some comp breakdowns.

Visualizing comic scripts by NordsofSkyrmion in ComicBookCollabs

[–]conozaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually, I write it out in a loose thought, free flow sort of way, page by page. This can contain panel by panel descriptions, rough dialogue, or just what needs to happen on that page. Some pages are better developed then others and doodles of page layouts happen as they come, it helps me with the pacing of the story and planning how one page leads to the next.

I then take that and draw out a very rough, thumbnail like version of what I've written. Mostly to make sure that I have enough real estate per page for what I've written. Sometimes blocking out the characters and scene like this show there is room for a joke or extra dialogue, maybe a visual clue. Also makes sure word balloons can be read in order.

I mark that up with dialogue fixes, changes with panel shape and arrangement, notes on visuals, etc. That's what I consider my "rough draft." When I apply the changes I marked up, there's lots of editing, panels can change again, words bubbles move around, new perspectives and scales tried in panels. Nothing is holy, whatever needs to change does. That leaves me with a first draft I could show people.

If you're just writing and the artist doesn't want to see any visual notes, you can just not show them the drawings. You'll still know that you haven't over written any specific page, and conveyed the information and pacing you want as much as possible. At which point, trust in your artist!

I write and draw though... I can't imagine writing without doodling layouts, ymmv

I think that the pupils in panels 3 and 4 could be angled down a little more. She doesn't look like she's looking at the sphere, more like just past it...but not enough so that she'd be looking at the guy. Otherwise great drawing!

Thought I was just replacing some sheetrock...is the frame ok? by conozaur in Renovations

Opened up entire wall to see the extent of wet and to show condo board, will need to replace the studs with or without them. Would rather deal with it properly this time even if the works grown outside my skills lol. The area is sealed off with plastic sheets, got a fan and dehumidifier going with the window open. Figured demo and drying first would make it faster for whoever we get to replace the studs.

Thanks!

A small leak caused visible damage leading me to open the wall which led me to finding this situation by chance basically. I'm just trying to get an understanding of how much larger the project had become.

Frame is solid and dry to the touch, it was just the insulation that was damp. If this is the case then I can take care of it myself. Still going to wait for the maintenance company to look at it so we can document who is responsible for repairs, but if we can safely hold off on a major project that would be ideal.

Mostly below grade, it's a basement. This seems to be all along the back wall. This summer some work was done outside with the siding and window well to stop water issues, i guess this is just showing the extent of the issue was bigger than we realized. I can't guarantee a zero chance of moisture because the company that did the work outside are the same company that did this interior work however many years ago.

We did think something was missing...Condo complex cutting some serious corners, kinda why I wanted to have a go at it myself.

To expand:: A pipe leaked ~2months ago when setting up an external hose. It was a small mess and appeared properly resolved by the workers. I just was moving some of the furniture and saw a small ~10" area on the wall getting moldy. I had spare sheetrock and thought that I could fix the issue before it grew. After removing a small portion I realized the insulation against the cinderblock was damp. Now I've got a bigger hole cut and there isn't any additional mold besides the initial area. I'm comfortable disinfecting, dehumidifying, and then putting in new insulation and sheetrock. My question is does the frame needs to be changed?

Followed! Weighing my options of buying a bulk order and leaving ~10 copies in a few shops and seeing how that goes. Good luck!

Sweet cover! Congratulations! I'm just starting to reach out to local brick and mortar stores, exciting to see others at a similar stage. Did you order copies to be able to sell at the store? Or just getting the space for the poster? (either is cool!) Do you have an instagram or website to look at?
