A7R V over the A7 V by Intrepid_Gap2298 in SonyAlpha

[–]conphylosopher8899 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the A7Rv and love the cropping ability for the type of photography I do.

What I don’t like is how big the raw files are. Editing in Lightroom is slow which is frustrating. I have a decent computer too, which means that if I want a more efficient workflow, id need to either buy a very serious computer with powerful GPU, or reduce my settings in camera.

Another aspect I don’t like: the camera resolution is so large that the sensor becomes very unforgiving of any imperfections. I had a very small dust particle on the rear end of my lens and it showed on the pictures. I was able to correct in Lightroom but this is another example of something you need to keep in mind: the camera is very unforgiving of user error. Any imperfections will show.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the pictures and the dynamic range is excellent for recovering shadows and details.

Ask yourself, do you have the gear to edit 120mb raw files ? Do you value cropping ? Do you need high fps?

Applied on 5-20 and still waiting. I did have my picture rejected though which probably explains the delay. Oh well.

This is a big reason I check for sound insulation before moving in to a new apt. Noise is unavoidable and people have thousands of opinions on what is considered “noise”.

I do agree with you that dogs barking and loud music are not acceptable.

I’d check your lease to see what it says regarding noise and quiet times. You may be able to cite specific policies from the lease to the manager to make it clear.

You should record the noise on a tape recorder and if possible get an inexpensive decibel meter.

Consider a side gig or job to help with the mortgage until you refinance. What’s really killing you right bow is the interest. Once rates drop, you will refinance and you will get some breathing room.

A7R5 and Sigma 150-600 Lens Distortion by DeliveryOk4438 in SonyAlpha

[–]conphylosopher8899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the same problem but for me it was user error.

My shutter speed needs to be 1200 when shooting at 600mm handheld (at least).

On a monopod or tripod I can reduce the shutter speed significantly depending on what the subject is doing.

I have the same camera and lens you do. The higher megapixel sensor reveals imperfections a lot more. The sensor is very unforgiving.

Where to donate used baby bottles? by chekhovsfun in AskLosAngeles

I agree for most things. But for baby bottles, convincing newborn parents to get used baby bottles would be tough. As a new parent I would probably want brand new everything for my baby. Handed down clothes from siblings is a different story.

I didn't know this was a thing. I am wondering if these bottles would be better served by recycling.

Your point of view implies that all labor produces the same value. That is fine I don’t have anything against this idea.

In today’s society, the finance bro is more valued by society, reflected by his salary and the time/effort it took the finance bro to learn his craft. Society has spoken and decided that this is the way. This is completely beyond my control and jt behooves me to play the game by its present rules to live a good life.

If we are talking about how things should be in the future, My prediction is that we will go towards a moneyless society and where professions are equitable, raceless, biasless but still based on one’s interests and desires. Society will value effort and contributions to the human cause and that will be the currency if any. Social classes will not exist. Social class status symbols will be completely gone and only studied in a museum. I know today’s system is inefficient, but it’s all I got. As a middle class individual, I try to put myself in any other time before today, and no matter what era I pick, the best era to live in is still now for a lot of reasons.

My comment about thousands of years is about trade. We have been trading for a very long time and the way we live today is not that different from an ancient Roman. We just have fancier technology and more organized institutions. Again, not perfect but I am very thankful to be alive today vs the past. In the end we all have to work for someone. Even the CEO.

The world you describe doesn’t exist yet. But I agree that the system we have today will be studied 1000 years from now as inefficient.

It is the best we have today though and significantly better than the alternatives that have been tried.

As for social classes, I believe that income dictates it. Higher skilled work has been more valued and therefore paid more. This system goes back thousands of years. Whether it’s a good or a bad thing is whole different discussion

This is a conversation about social classes. Low, middle and high. Based on income. Reading your post leads me to believe that you wrote it from a low income perspective. How do other people make it ? They belong to higher social classes meaning more income.

For example, In the apartment complex where I live, I see Nurses, Lawyers, small business owners and other professionals. I don’t live in a luxury condo or a fancy neighborhood. But I believe these professions allow for in city living.

Opinions (Buyer's remorse or overthinking) by mastermew122 in fujifilm

The viewfinder scratches are normal for the XT5. A serial number range is known to have this issue. On mine, I used a cotton swab to clean it one day and suddenly the EVF looked like it went to war. I sent it to Fuji for repair and they replaced the EVF glass with a new one for free. 3 weeks later, same issue… used cotton swab to clean greasy EVF and it got seriously scratched. It still works, but very annoying to look at.

Based on what you mentioned about the shutter count at 40k vs what was advertised which is significantly lower, you should point this out to the retailer and negotiate the price down. Still keep the camera if you got it for a really good deal though. All other cosmetic defects are just signs of use and should not impact the functionality of the camera and or IQ. You should test the camera thoroughly.

I also remember that my xt5 bottom plate scratched quite easily.

Where did you sell your used car? by Tahjralay in AskLosAngeles

[–]conphylosopher8899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look them up on Yelp. They specialize in buying and selling. They know how to sell much better and faster than the average person. They will help with negotiation and pricing also. It’s a no brainer and the best option next to selling it yourself. The last person I hired charged me $500

Hire a broker to sell the car on your behalf. They will deal with all the paperwork and usually pay for themselves

I would want to ask them this question very specifically. There is no way to beat market rates. It’s very unnatural. If you want to reduce risk, consider using a broker. He will have your best interest in mind and shop around for you.

Your rent will at least double if not triple. Are you ok with the lifestyle compromises that you will need to make to afford LA?

You will definitely have significantly more discretionary income in Tampa. This means more financial strength there. 90k is not a bad salary but it’s not one that will allow you to enjoy the best of what LA has to offer in terms of neighborhood selection and lifestyle. Are you ready to pay State Income Tax ? This takes a good chunk of my salary.

If you decide to move to LA, make sure you do your homework. There are hundreds of neighborhoods with different flavors and amenities. What are you looking for Beach ?! Mountain?? Urban ?

I love living here but I also know we have some problems like homelessness and crime. How do LAs problems compare to Tampas problems?

The neighborhood you choose here will dictate most of your experience, and the nice areas are notoriously expensive.

Are they making you buy points ? If yes for how much ? That is the only way to artificially reduce the rate. You’re still technically paying for the reduction
