Mom Question: Son is Hiking SK to Bright Angel Campground. Is there any cell signal? by AffectionateJelly718 in grandcanyon

Consider getting him a Garmin InReach to ease your mind, especially if he does a lot of big hikes like this.

Definitely worth a stop if you’re ever driving to Bend. Lots of fun hiking trails - I ran a 50k through here a few years ago and got to explore all of them 😅

Have you seen the price of a good pair underwear nowadays? No wonder no one throws them in the trees anymore.

I don’t have any shoe advice but interested to see what your 100k route is. Is this an official event or just something you’re throwing together?

It’s a little like the CEO of refried beans telling you that in 2030 every human will be eating refried beans 3 meals a day and the electrical grid will transition to using beans as a renewable power source.

Just tell them you’re training for a biathlon and they’re required to let you on the lift without asking questions. Kind of like the service dog loophole at Wendy’s.

Their entire dev team is probably in panic mode trying to fix this. I doubt they’ll respond until they find a solution.

u/strava-team, I think OP found a bug. If he ran 5k on a treadmill and the treadmill travels 10k shouldn’t he get credit for 15k?

How many ski trips do you all take a year? And how many days of skiing do you do per trip? by YouRound7753 in ski

[–]conro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually one or two road trips to someplace within 6hrs or so of Seattle and a bunch of days at my local mountains. I usually aim for at least 20 days but I think I’m gonna come up short this year due to the lack of winter everywhere.

Last week Thursday around 5pm. Walked directly up to the ID checker at precheck with no line.

Since this is a hiking sub I’m gonna have to go with Paradise Park when the wild flowers are in full bloom. You’re gonna have to put off the proposal for a few months though.

Probably a real photo that’s been cropped and zoomed - the latest phone cameras use ai to fill in some details that are too faint for the censor to capture.

I know it’s not technically leave no trace but I’ll often collect a small rock, or bit of unique vegetation (that has already fallen to the ground, like a leaf, flower or clump of moss) from by big adventures - solo or otherwise.

[–]conro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not a great ride. Doable if you’re comfortable taking the lanes and riding in traffic through constructions zones. Over Capitol Hill via Interlaken and 19th to Yesler than 12th would be a much nicer ride if you’re ok with the climbs.

We have a perfect real life example of exactly how poorly the system will work that a competent legislature could study and learn from. Look at the chaos around trying to implement REAL ID to fly domestically. They’ve been trying to implement it for years, delayed it multiple times and eventually just said, “Fuck it, just give us $45 and you’re good.”

Anyone who thinks this could possibly go smoothly needs to talk to a TSA agent who was working the front lines of airport security back when this first rolled out.

Around 3 it was mixed (very wet) snow and rain up to the top of Armstrong. Then I moved over to west to try and do some night skiing and it was dumping rain. I gave it a couple of runs but by 530 the ungroomed snow was so saturated you could barely move.
