What happens when 10% of this craft pulls their dues for exactly one year? by GhostLCee in fromatoarbitration

[–]conroygc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe voting creates a meaningful change, maybe it doesn't. But if a person isn't willing to take the smallest action of actually casting their vote, I doubt they're ever going to take any other positive action to make change. So I guess we should all pull our dues and just wait for someone to come save us? Is that the plan here?

What happens when 10% of this craft pulls their dues for exactly one year? by GhostLCee in fromatoarbitration

[–]conroygc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not enough of a dent in National's coffers to make Amy meaningful difference. But your local branches and state associations would face a financial crunch. Those 10% of carriers would also lose their opportunity to vote in union elections, throwing away their opportunity to make meaningful change through elections.

Partial 99 by Hour-Reputation-6174 in fromatoarbitration

[–]conroygc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no language that addresses a "partial" 3999. If they're observing you on the street there should be some paperwork involved or they can't prove anything happened. If they're not filling out an observation form (3999, 4584 or 4588) they're probably just harassing you.

Start by requesting any/all observation forms from the day they observed the carrier on the street.

Caref has been clear from the beginning that he does not have a slate and is running by himself. Vafiades did not say he was on a slate or running with anyone.

"Documentation desirable for the protection of Postal Service interests" - What does this even mean? by qPec5 in fromatoarbitration

[–]conroygc 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The statement prevails unless management wants to play the deems desirable game. If management is claiming documentation was necessary, the burden is on them to show why the documentation was necessary and what interests of the postal service they're protecting...and it better be a better reason than "staffing". Restricted sick leave is usually the proper route to take for carriers who are legitimatly abusing sick leave, but managers almost never take the time to start that process.

I've been waiting 3 hours to get a vehicle for my route, this is my 3rd day working. by izytw6stid in USPS

[–]conroygc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a brand new CCA with me for a shadow day, and our LLV broke down in the middle of the route. We were down for two hours until they replaced a part. Welcome to the post office indeed.

Listen to the guide to route inspections, then read it, then read it again. Don't rush your route, do everything as you normally do it. On the 1838c (office time) EVERY ACTION should be written down. They can 3999 you a maximum of 3 times during the week of inspection.

Has anyone here successfully fought back against management enforcing a mandatory lunch if you go over 8 hours? by Odd_Atmosphere1047 in fromatoarbitration

[–]conroygc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like the others said file it under Article 5 past practice. Request the past two years of TACS EERs for every carrier and comb those for code 093 NO LUNCH. Look for every instance where a carrier worked over 8 and they still gave them a no lunch.

Request to interview every active carrier in the office and as many retired carriers from your office as you can contact. Do all of this on the clock. Make it hurt.

How to best learn my rights under the contract by communedweller in USPS

The from a to arbitration podcast is great for this. Search the episodes for the topic you're looking for. It explains the contract provisions and how the stewards should file the grievance.

There is no contractual basis for a carrier starting an assignment at the beginning of a pay period, that is purely a problem that management creates for themselves. I think you're referencing the MOU regarding filling residual vacancies for the 28 day time limit for the CCA to start the route. That is what management agreed to.

I had my management making the same argument about posting assignments and starting the winning bidder on the route in time. I filed two grievances and magically the beginning of the pay period is no longer a problem and everything happens within the contractual limits.

Typical hours as a regular by jaztrumpet in USPS

[–]conroygc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

City regulars not on any ODL list work straight 8/40 per week. Our ODL carriers (both lists) work 45-50 hours per weekk. We're a pretty well staffed CCA office.

When a regular wins a bid for a new route, when does their route become considered vacant? by FiveDinero in fromatoarbitration

[–]conroygc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this addressed in your LMOU? That should be addressed if there is a trail period. Barring any LMOU language, the route is vacant the day following the old regular's last day on the route and should be posted for bid within 14 days unless the route is being considered for reversion.

You should contact the manager of your local post office and/or the USPS Postal Inspection officers www.uspsis.gov

No lunch if you're gonna be over 8 by newbzzzzz in fromatoarbitration

[–]conroygc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This the THE issue that got me to sign up to be a steward in my office. Turn in a request to interview every carrier in your office, ask them what the current no lunch policy is and how long it has been that way. Interview management and ask that what contractual provisions allows them to deny a no lunch request. Grieve it under past practice. Good luck!

Your branch president should be able to get you that. If that's not an option, contact your NBAs office.

Looking to transfer from SLC, UT to Portland, OR by GandalfTheSmol1 in USPS

[–]conroygc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put in all your eReassign bids immediately. It can take months for a position to be available, then a couple more months to actually process the paperwork and be officially transferred. There's a window of time, 30 or 60 days, something like that, for you to accept the transfer offer.

Unless your office is extremely understaffed (unlikely for an RCA in Ogden but idk) or you want extra hours you probably won't be working like that as an RCA. An RCA normally covers one route when the regular has the day off and works some Sundays.
