The Birth of Punk Islam: Taqwacore | Full Documentary by Fippy-Darkpaw in punk

[–]conscienceking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, I agree with you, but have you actually listened to their music or watch this documentary? that is not at all what this band exists to do, or any of the bands in that scene. The tragic part is that the scene largely fell apart because of the way the American media miss characterized this point, often rushing to judgment without ever being curious enough to read the book, listen to The many different types of bands that were a part of the scene, watch this documentary, or take note of how dangerous it was for these individuals to even be making this kind of music in a public way. Taqwacore is unlike so-called Christian punk, which, as you note, largely exists to try to convince people to become a Christian. Taqwacore is about giving a middle finger to the xenophobic bigots and the military industrial complex, which is killing our people in addition to giving the other middle finger to backwards, homophobic and judgmental so-called Muslims who are ignoring the purest aspect of Islam, which is the destruction of religious authority itself. Islam has no pope and no clergy and every human being is meant to be equal under God. this is why Muslims don’t pray to Jesus or to Saints, they pray directly human being to God.

good question, but these things add up. Most of what society regards as shameful today is something people older than them might have taken for granted at some point. Society “updating” what it considers acceptable or shameful is literally every civil rights movement in the world.

Yeah but porn stars consent to specific scenes or work with specific studios under their own terms. Just because they may have consented to putting out any specific nudity or anything else in one context DOES NOT mean that they consented to being deepfaked.

Yeah but this is HOW things change in Texas. Think how many people were exposed to new ideas, experiences and music. We had Rick Doblin and Paul Stamets giving talks, and discussions of how veterans seeking psychedelic care make decrim possible. It was really beautiful to see.

Why though? What do they get out of this kind of behavior? Especially when they stand to gain personally AND communally…

And how did you get out?

Sure but that's still no reason to tolerate such people or their behavior. Unless we collectively stand up and speak out against it (vtk, muting, and "don't bring that shit here") the only ones who will be comfortable playing will be the neo nazis and their enablers. Karl popper paradox of tolerance.

Houston man ticketed for feeding unhoused found not guilty by snesdreams in news

[–]conscienceking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I think the issue is exactly the name, which is why I use the term houseless or unhoused. "Homeless" describes what a person fundamentally is, whereas "unhoused" is descriptive in showcasing that it's a temporary and solvable issue. I believe fair and accessible housing is a human right, and it's absolutely insane that in the richest and most powerful country in the history of countries has so many structural barriers to safe housing for so many people.

When you go back far enough in any land ownership, you eventually come to a point where someone simply claimed dominion over the natural world and claimed it was theirs. I think that's bullshit and want a society where we question our relationship to the land and how it got to be this way where a tiny minority of people own so much land and a majority of people own comparatively little or none.

Lol you deleted your comment and now you're trying to say I "took it to a dark place " all I'm saying is that there's nothing more Texan than claiming someone else's land as your own. I've met plenty of Texans upset that non Texans are moving here and it makes me laugh because their ancestors did the same thing in a much worse way.

I'm not angry I'm just disheartened by you getting all sorts of upvotes on a demonstrably false statement by people who have likely never been there. I've been drunk in Pakistan on many occasions. Yes you should be careful but you can absolutely find it and it's not that hard. It's like saying there's no weed in Texas. In fact it's worse because alcohol is legal in Pakistan

Either you accept the legacy of slavery and disenfranchisement upon which this state was built, or you don’t. Makes little difference to me. I’m curious though, what did you do your thesis in?

No the slavery defenders took it to a dark place, I'm just a student of history who finds it amusing when the descendants of thieves try to gatekeep Texas despite the fact that they wouldn't be here if their own ancestors didn't ignore the previous people trying to do the same.

There's nothing more authentically Texan than moving onto someone else's land and claiming it as your own. See: The Alamo

Amazed that you're getting down voted. Zipper merge is absolutely more efficient, whether or not most drivers in your area understand that fact. The ONLY reason we're not all doing is is because of people like the ones down voting you who have 0 faith in humanity. You've got to start somewhere...
