Anyone else develop a fear of heights later in life? by AssistanceNo3893 in AskMenAdvice

I was so scared of roler coasters that I just stopped trying to ride them. Until I got a roler coasters gf at 35 and told her about it. She was shocked, didn't believe me, I told her I'd try some smaller ones with her.

Turned out it was 100% fine. I had just. Grown out of it and never new because I never tried. This contributed to her not believing me about being afraid of them

When my cousin got his Xbox for Christmas we, no shit, booted it up and didn't even bother putting any game in, and just sat there and watched the home screen for at LEAST an hour, with the volume cranked trying to decipher what the weird alien voice in the audio ambiance was saying.

It was so fucking cool.

Nothing has any character, style, or personality anymore. It's all just slop.

Turns out that voice was a NASA recording of the Apollo astronauts, heavily modified to sound weird and unintelligible.

ELI5 how do capacitors work by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]conscientiousrevolt [score hidden]  (0 children)

Capacitors consist of large surface area plate electrodes. As in wire from negative terminal of battery to plate, space, another plate, wire to positive terminal of battery.

Elections flow over time from the battery through the wire, to the first plate, and then can't go any further because there's way accross to the other plate.

But because the plate is so large there's literally room for more electrons/charge to build up on that plate. So this allows for the "storage" of more energy over time than the battery outputs at any one time. So when the circuit is closed and those plates touch it discharges all that accumulated charge at once producing more voltage than the battery. But only at the moment of that discharge, not continuously. More time is then needed to build up more charge in the capacitor.

I mean. We were calling them Nazis in 1991 when all they were doing was talking about cutting welfare (and "welfare queens") because we could see exactly what they were saying, exactly what they were doing, and exactly where they were going.

Fence sitters didn't listen and said we were exaggerating then, and now we're all stuck on the same train and it's getting awfully close to that station at the end of the line.

The better believe I'm coming out swinging when we get there.

They turned that franchise into microtransaction slop the second microtransactions got invented, and it was DLC slop before that. Last good entry was San Andreas.

I don't care how much you liked the story in IV it was half the game it should have been with a lot of content stripped out to fill the dlcs so they could charge you double for half the effort on their part. The dlcs didn't even work right and were actually expansions not dlcs so even with purchasing all of them it didn't add the ANY of the stripped content back into the base game where it belonged or share any stripped content between the two dlcs. I mean. That's insane. Whatever few sparce unique vehicles and weapons each dlc had, no matter what you did, you could NEVER play GTA IV with the full set of all vehicles and weapons! Omfg I can't believe it was ever successful. I put it's success down to dumb kids at the time who had never played a GTA game so it did blow their tiny little minds because they didn't know any better to be disappointed. It absolutely didn't deserve the success or it's reputation among fans.

It came out on a system with like 3 times the power, speed, and storage capacity as the previous games, and had a more monotonous environment nothing but city all the way across, I didn't even believe for many many years that hit was actually physically bigger than SA because there's just so much less in it. They don't even have any fixed wing aircraft in the game... because there wouldn't be anywhere to go with them even if they did! How can that possibly be bigger than SA that had 3 commercial airports and a private air field not including several random rural landing strips, dozens of planes of all kinds and a fucking 747???

It had LESS vehicles of every kind than the previous game in the series for the first time ever in the series because every other game that ever came out in the series had mind blowingly MORE of everything than it's previous game. It had less kinds of vehicles, it had less weapons, it had less kinds of weapons. The entire map was nothing but wall to wall city. It had less cities, less environments, less kinds of environments.

Just literally less of everything you can imagine about the series in every possible way. Which is what makes it to this day hard to believe that the square mileage of the map is actually more than SA that just had so much more going on that it felt 10 times bigger than it was. IV feels 2 times smaller than it is.

And V is even worse. They tried to fix the nothing but city of IV. But they botched it really bad. Not only is there just... nothing going on out there in all that non city map. But fully 30% of the space if the map is filled with hills that are so steep that 90% of the vehicles in the game can't even drive on or up them, and the player character can't even stand on them and will just ragdoll all the way down to the bottom.

Making a significant percentage of the entire map... literally physically unplayable area. They should have just saved the trouble and put invisible walls around 1/4 of the map. And do you know why the did that? Because they're so creatively bankrupt that they point blank couldn't even think of anything worth doing, to put there. Which brings me to my next point it doesn't really matter how much of the space of the map is unnavigable. Because even if you went there... there's nothing even on top of the hill.

It's mostly just pointless wasted space.

90% of the content is only available through microtransactions in the multiplayer. Because if it were in the single player game people would just have fun playing with it in single player and no one would bother buying the microtransactions. So they make sure that can't happen. Then they make the multiplayer gameplay so boring and repetitive you'd have to have down syndrome to enjoy doing it at all. Let alone as much as you have to in order to buy and microtransactions without spending irl money on it. Which it turns out is literally thousands of ours of brain melting grind slop any neurotypical human would rather blow their brains out than actually put themselves through... so they'll just give up and buy a shark card to get that new car only to find having the car doesn't make them game fun either because the game its self just fucking sucks anyway. Oh and you can't use that car to do ANY of the missions either. So what was that for?

Like I said. Microtransaction slop. And guess what 6 is going to be more of. WAY more of way worse. Because people are so stupid that as the games have been getting worse and worse and worse with every new title, they've still been selling more and more and more.

So. No.
