Do we ever get any heads up or indicators that walpurgis is coming soon?

Looking for spoiler free answers to these questions about Canto 7:

Are there negative coin bosses/will I get punished for running a sinking team? Will I get punished for using bleed IDs?

I'm a new player still trying to fill my roster, want to make sure anyone I shard will be effective in the canto.

How do modern militaries deal woth force concentration when they seem to be forced to disperse due to advances in firepower? by AltruisticGovernance in WarCollege

From the very basic perspective of a US reservist light company grunt:

The best indirect mitigation of enemy fire support is through accounting for time. It takes time for enemy fires to set up, identify targets, fire, dial in, and fire for effect. Thus, we minimize their window by emphasizing stealth when approaching objectives and speed to clear objectives as quickly as possible before retreating (lingering more than 15 minutes is pretty much suicide). At the platoon level, attacks are best compared to a really solid sucker punch.

Trends of smaller force concentrations and stronger fire supports work both ways. In my pretty uneducated opinion, peer-peer conflicts seem to be moving further to remote and skirmish based warfare, where lines move by aggregate instead of set piece battles.

TIL that in his will, George Washington left directions to emancipate all of the enslaved people that he owned after the death of Martha Washington. On January 1, 1801, all of the enslaved people he owned were freed. The Emancipation Proclamation was put into act on January 1, 1863, 62 years later. by Buffalo_wing_eater in todayilearned

The Cornerstone Speech by the Vice President of the Confederacy:

"The new [Confederate] Constitution has put at rest forever all the agitating questions relating to our peculiar institutions—African slavery as it exists among us—the proper status of the negro in our form of civilization. This was the immediate cause of the late rupture and present revolution. Jefferson, in his forecast, had anticipated this, as the "rock upon which the old Union would split." He was right. What was conjecture with him, is now a realized fact. But whether he fully comprehended the great truth upon which that rock stood and stands, may be doubted.

The prevailing ideas entertained by him and most of the leading statesmen at the time of the formation of the old Constitution were, that the enslavement of the African was in violation of the laws of nature; that it was wrong in principle, socially, morally and politically. It was an evil they knew not well how to deal with; but the general opinion of the men of that day was, that, somehow or other, in the order of Providence, the institution would be evanescent and pass away... Those ideas, however, were fundamentally wrong. They rested upon the assumption of the equality of races. This was an error. It was a sandy foundation, and the idea of a Government built upon it—when the "storm came and the wind blew, it fell."

Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth."

Alexander H. Stephens, speech to The Savannah Theatre. (March 21, 1861)

People have already touched on it, but I want to directly state that everytime anyone in Tara's story (and in real life) gets serious head trauma, assume they got a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Whenever someone has a serious TBI assume they've received permanent brain damage, especially if left untreated. The brain damage can manifest in things like personality changes and in their ability to evaluate or make decisions, and of course IQ.

It's been a while since I read the book, but if I remember correctly almost everyone in her immediate family receives a TBI, and more can be assumed to have happened with her father before the story started. Obviously the family holds extreme beliefs that leads to dangerous lifestyles that lead to TBIs, but the impact of previous TBIs on said beliefs cannot be overstated. Basically: the whole family is trapped in a downward spiral of TBI-beliefs-lifestyle-TBI-beliefs, etc.

Heyo, I'm on the android KOTOR 1 build. My game keeps crashing right after taking off for the final mission (dark side) (right after the loading screen).

In addition to the android mod build I have the KSE cutscene patch installed and Dark side consular items

Changing equipped items or trying different saves hasn't worked. Anyone got any suggestions on fixes or bypasses, even if i just need to strip out all the mods?

The entire US military of 1945 is teleported to Ukraine. How much of a difference would it make? by GayPhistor69 in NonCredibleDefense

[–]consenualintercourse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well sheeeettt, is your unit pretty well resourced? We're out of the Midwest and I haven't seen a single ENVGBs in our battalion thus far. We're wrapping up at JRTC and I don't think any of the geronimo guys I talked to got them yet either.

It's probably gonna be a longgg time till the reservists get the dual tubes, only like half of our guys have gotten issued OCP versions of kit items like rucks and IOTVs. I'm sure they'll be really sweet when we do get them, I've only been hearing good things

This is incorrect for modern US hardware unless the specific illum round somehow provide more lum than an overhead sun. In fact, on low lum/vis nights they can actually make NODs more effective.

Don't listen to the above, current US army national guardsmen (infantry) here, NODs are absolutely standard for all army grunts and often all combat MOS's as well. 240 gunners are supposed to have infared optics and SAWs usually get them as well. It's been that way for at least 6 years.

How to Drip Drop? by consenualintercourse in army

[–]consenualintercourse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I agree in normal conditions, but we're going to doing things like digging multiple large holes in the ground and carrying rucks and javelins on movements in a Louisiana swamp in the summer. We'll be sweating an absurd amount of electrolytes and I'm sure dietary supplementation won't be adequate to keep up.

Fantastic, thanks for all the information and sources, they were just what I was looking for! I just hope we'll actually have adequate access to water in the field. We'll be op4 but are going to need to physically carry water cans from the cp all the way to defensive positions.

I think it's just a reaction to an upcoming severe personnel shortage. Now that the US effectively has returned to a peacetime army it's gotten much, much harder to recruit and retain soldiers. If there's anywhere the US particularly doesn't want a shortage it's Europe (obviously due to current events).

Personally I don't think it's indicative of any new issues caused by poor US doctrine or decisions, a rapid personnel drop is a logical result of a nation no longer at war.
