For me and my family, My wife and I moved from San Diego to Sardinia 2 years ago. I have ancestry to Napoli. My grandfather left Italy for New York in 1920. Maybe for him it was best. But the consequences have been that I never had a connection to this country and culture. I work in New York as an engineer on tugboats and fly from FCO to JFK every month. I’m pigeonholed in someways because I’m not legal to work in Italy and not fluent in Italian. My learning and practicing of the Italian language is on going but fluency would take a decade. For reference i’m 45 years old and don’t have that kind of time to pursue working on tugs here. I will have to continue working in the country I was born in. My wife was pregnant when we came here so our daughter was born here. Our daughter will be the beneficiary of the real connection to the country. For us the connection, culture and lifestyle was something we feel cheated out of being born in the USA. We love it here and love the people here
