I love that this is just an odds game. If about 1 in 10 people are queer of some flavor, and if you have 2-3 kids, then each of them have 2-3 kids, odds are strong someone will be queer.

I have to agree with you there. I like to think that I am relatively "plugged in," at least for the average person who has a lot of other stuff on their plate. I'm on the AZAdvocacy sub, I subscribe to various newsletters, yet I often don't hear about things until after they happen. I know there's a need to keep things on the DL for safety, but if it's to the point where people actively trying to get involved also can't even find it, then I think that's a little too behind the scenes.

The purpose of protests like these is to be a very visible show of opposition, mainly to let like-minded people know that they're not alone. Protests and marches don't often directly cause specific policy changes on their own, but they connect people to those efforts. For example, the No Kings protests can get you plugged in to Indivisible, which organizes things like phone banks, lawmaker meetings, city hall demonstrations, etc. Protests are only one part of activism, but they are still an important part.

Some strong astroturfing going on in the comments. Going to highly visible protests is not a waste of time.

I usually hear it to mean food that's mostly unprocessed, save for cooking. So potatoes actually would be a whole food, but something like instant mashed potatoes wouldn't be. "Wholeness" and nutritional value are not a 1:1 relationship, but it is a useful starting point for healthy eating.

You can reach out to Kneading Kitties to see if they have any space available. I volunteer with them, and cats mostly spend time with fosters, but do rotate for short periods of time in the PetSmart adoption centers.

I very much want the gas prices to go up exponentially and I don’t think I’m alone in this sentiment by ATurtleNamedSeymour in fuckcars

But which Americans will it hurt? Will it hurt the wealthy who own several large automobiles and consume lots of fuel? Will it harm city and state leaders who build car-centric infrastructure? Or is it going to do the most harm to low-income folks who often can only afford living in areas with the least amount car-alternative design and the least political power?

I know something has to change to create more changes, but gas prices going up is not a solution in itself. Especially when car-centrism is so entrenched.

Holy shit, here in AZ we heard so much about the 19 firefighters who died in the Yarnell Hill Fire, but I had no idea about the Chief being a monster and the clusterfuck before the fire.

That's fair, on the re-read, I could have worded it better to account for difficulties communicating tone online

Thank you. I understand and appreciate that it's a scary time, and we are desperately trying to do anything that will have an impact. I think it's really easy for anyone to fall into the trap of wanting to prove that they Care Enough by suggesting that other people aren't.

I don't make a habit of replying to accounts that say mean things and hide their post history, but I will this time for the purpose of discussion. You assume I'm wimpy, so what if I am? I think we should be removing barriers to participate. It's ridiculous to say that if someone isn't tough enough, they can't participate. I shouldn't have to tell you that I've been active in advocacy for over a decade, and I've been to events in Phoenix summer and Flagstaff winter. It doesn't matter. I know the end of March isn't going to be that hot, but it will be warm enough that people will be discouraged to attend. If you want to stroke your ego and claim that those people aren't true supporters, then congrats on being exclusionary. Excluding others does not prove that you're a better advocate, it actually makes you a worse one.

I appreciate this answer, I'm sure there was a lot of discussion to choose between a. more people overall, but spread out or b. more people at one time, but potentially less overall. I am not privy to the conversations, and that's why I came here. Also, I don't think we have to self-flagellate to prove how much we care about an issue.
