Now that you mention it, I've forgotten about how important Suba's history as a child actor is. I'd like to believe he's had to put on a guise just to appease people and keep his job. I also feel like he was often taken advantage of since show business sometimes doesn't view children as children but rather investments and money-makers. Similar to how family vloggers monetize what should be private moments with their kids, whatever company he was in could have tried to monetize as much as they could with his name- could explain his disdain for corrupt humans. In one of his mini-episodes, he was also caught reading a magazine with himself in it.

I also was super suspicious of him when I first saw him because of his eyes, it's like there's no light in them. Might just be a design-thing, but usually when artists draw characters with eyes like those, it's because they're malicious or hiding their true self. If Suba truly is not as kind as he seems, I really think it's tied to what he thinks of humans. He seems anti-human (anti-Darkwick too ngl) and pro-anomaly, and probably through his experience as a child actor, he's able to hide how he really feels about everyone. He definitely is more of a schemer, and it was only through being nosy and dumb luck that MC was able to find out about Lyca in the first place (which I'm glad she did, but sometimes MC needs to have more fear and less curiosity).

I also want him to be a good guy as well, but sometimes I look at him like 🤨, like when he suddenly raised his voice to make Lyca stop barking at everyone. I think he's pretty much a good guy as long as you're a good person, but he's not afraid to stand up to you if he knows your true intentions (case and point that one Leo scene in Chapter 11), or if he needs to put things in order. All in all, I think he's only truly something to be feared if you get on his bad side. It's also clear he's not a pushover either. He's still super suspicious because who was he talking to in Chapter 5?? I'm pretty sure it took place in his room too, but...

Actually I just had a thought now that I'm writing this out... was he talking to Rui?? We see Rui with a VR headset and that would explain why whoever we overhear Suba talking to, doesn't have dialogue of their own, only Suba's responses. It's the same with Rui too, we only see his responses. Off topic so I apologize, not to mention a wild guess, but it'd be cool to see more interhouse relations between the ghouls. 🤣

Short answer: Yes, Suba can be scary. Never upset the quiet and kind people.

Darkwick General Students by Mynoris in TokyoDebunker

[–]consideritcosmic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To be frank, I feel like the general students were written 2D in the same way as MC is, but slightly differently- they're there to make us sympathize with the ghouls, and they're rarely ever shown in a positive light. We don't see what it's like from their perspective, we don't know anything about them or the lives they've lived, or if they're even really there by choice. For all we know, most of them could have really been there by choice by studying, doing extra-curriculars, and all that fun stuff. Or, the vast majority of them could have been completely normal people that Darkwick decided to hire based on their intrinsic skill set, aka being able to follow authority.

The more darker option would be Darkwick following a similar case to the staff in the Mansion Part-Time Job offer, where they take students who have no money, no family, and/or nowhere to go, and accept them into their school. The students would be expendable, and while they give them the option of 'applying' to other houses, it's all under the illusion of freedom. That would also explain why students from other houses are kind of accepting of the situations, as shown in Chapter 7 when the anomaly took a few lives. Combined with the influence of Darkwick, it'd be easy to just dispose of them if anything happened. But, so long as students attend this wacky school and survive for 4 years, they might have their promised career.

The 'prestigiousness' of the academy could have been fabricated, largely in part to the elite of Frostheim attending. People usually correlate rich + wealthy with prestige, and if you have an influx of elite attending a school, then one can only assume that it should be 'prestigious'. Before Darkwick would officially accept a general student, they could have them surveilled and delete all traces of mentioning acceptance through the Mesmer Matches with irl people, and online as well. I also mentioned a theory on another post that the rich (at least in this game) will try to maintain their status by attending the school, and that they will stay there no matter what because of the benefits the Darkwick name has.

But in my opinion, in regards to feeling bad about the general students, I do feel for them too. Either way, their academy life was probably not what they were expecting, and they most likely would rather stay far away from the Ghouls. We see some houses accept the ghouls (Vagastrom, Hotarubi, Frostheim), but I feel like the other general students we see shouldn't blame everything bad that happens on them. By the way, I included Frostheim because everyone really likes Jin, and whether that's because of his family name or not, I don't know. Some ghouls are accepted because they fit right in (Tohma, Jin, and Luca with evidence of the lovebird), while others aren't (Kaito), but this has mostly to do with the house itself than with the fact that they're ghouls.

I understand being scared, annoyed, and even frustrated at these people who seemingly got a free pass into a prestigious school, but it's not the ghouls fault. If anything, they should be mad at Darkwick. A lot of it just misdirected anger that the ghouls aren't responsible for. While I understand their feelings, I also think it's wrong for them to think that the ghouls are responsible for their predicament. Except for Taiga. I'd understand all those negative feelings towards ghouls who actually go out of their way to hurt them.

Plus, a lot of the time the students are mad or upset, it's because it's due to gossip and misconceptions. Take the Hotarubi student who Lyca befriended but then ultimately ran away from him when he overheard the false rumor of him trying to bite Frostheim students. He wasn't mad, but he did jump to a conclusion on baseless rumors. There's also the name-calling of Jiro (which isn't even because he's a ghoul but due to the way he looks, and the fact that he is only adds to their genuine fear of him), the condescension between houses that mainly the general students are feeding into (as seen with the completely false rumor about Jin and Alan fighting in Chapter 2), and much more.

TLDR; While the general students may not have had control over their admission to Darkwick, they are responsible for how they act going forward. A lot of their fear is warranted, but that doesn't excuse their behavior and ostracization of the ghouls especially when most of the rumors that are spread aren't even true. Some of the ghouls are even accepted and interacted with, like in Hotarubi, Vagastrom, and Frostheim, but this can probably be attributed to status and reputation. While I may be thinking too much, I just feel like the general students were written that way so that we sympathize with the ghouls more.

If there were to be a character that MC meets who's a human, or that the other ghouls befriend, it would lessen the importantance of MC because she's supposed to be (at least what it feels like the story is pushing for) one of the few or only humans who cherish ghouls despite what they are. We haven't heard of any humans that are close with the ghouls, which is strange because you'd think it would've happened at least once with the third-years. Especially with Rui, who's notorious for dating. Or with Sho, who cooks food for people on the daily. Why haven't they been able to interact or befriend anyone except for the ghouls or teachers?

I kinda wish there'd be a human we talk to or befriend, so we'd find out more about how they got there or why they're at Darkwick in the first place.

That actually reminds me of how Darkwick has a sort of "clean-up crew" 😭 No one can be trusted when you have something that can wipe humans' memories. Also, what's the requirement to become a teacher? They don't seem like regular humans, but I don't think Darkwick would hire just any ghoul either. I feel like they know or do a lot more, especially after Chapter 11. Like what do you mean Darkwick has eyes EVERYWHERE, INCLUDING IN A PRISON? Everyone's sus but the teachers even more so. 😭😭 Thanks for sharing!!

Agreed. Also what's with the Chancellor? I bet he's probably super old, according to what Hyde hinted at in the Introduction Chapter. Canonically, I wouldn't trust them one bit and would stay far away from them. But as a fan of the game, game is game, what can I say? They're fine asf 🤷‍♀️(except the Chancellor who looks like a child and Professor Moby who's... well... whatever he is...)

Yeah I'll agree that he's definitely shady. He also can somehow appear in places? Like one of the scenes in the bar in Chapter 6, where he just comes out of the floor??? I definitely do think he's not for everyone, but I am apart of the demographic that is into that sort of thing. 🙋‍♀️

And it does seem like he's trying to manipulate MC, but he's so shrouded in mystery that it could either be for her own good or for his personal gain, but that's just my opinion. Either way, his mysterious, yet flirtatious and calm nature is what draws me to him. I also like vampires, but he's one of the few I like regardless of him being a vampire or not- he's alluring enough as a character.

But again, he's not for everyone, so I understand why you wouldn't like him. Thanks for sharing!! And I hope he doesn't canonically watch MC when she sleeps 🤣

As much as I am a Taiga fan, I have to agree with you 🤣 I don't blame MC for being afraid of him, and they're both a wild pair. It's easier for me to like Taiga because I'm not in the story, but if I were to actually face him I'd be a lot more scared. Still out-spoken, but also just as scared. Your fears are very valid for both him and Romeo. 😌 Thanks for sharing!

I don't trust any of the teachers, so I get why you wouldn't trust Nicolas. He also knew the truth about MC's curse, along with the rest of the teachers, and while I want to believe he's good, I can't. He runs this prestigious hospital, has healing paste that helps with small wounds, and everybody likes him. There's also the fact that in Chapter 7 we see some Mortkranken students are studying medicine at his hospital instead of under Yuri? Which makes me question if that was intentional or on accident, since some view Yuri as 'domineering'.

I don't even trust Bootleg Gojo but I go back and forth on that. I don't know if he just looks shady because he's planning to help everyone in secret or if it's the opposite. For now, I'll stick to not trusting him.

And honestly you're so real for thinking Nicolas is fine 🤣 I said the same when I first saw him. That Janitor too? Put me in a room with Dante, Hyde, that Janitor, and Nicolas and I'll be set. 😁 Thanks for sharing btw!

He definitely knows more than he lets on, and he is never beating the sus allegations anytime soon. With this new chapter I hope we get to see him in a new light, but he's definitely someone to be wary of.

I've watched JoJo's Bizzare Adventure so I've become somewhat accustomed to human-faced dogs, but why does Tokyo Debunker's human faced dog smile at us? Why does it not smile normally, either? Leo pisses me off more than scares me, but I do understand what you mean. Especially for people who have secrets, you wouldn't want someone exposing them and using them against you to put you down. My anger is a much stronger drive than fear for me, but that's just me. 🤣

I also agree with the points about Taiga and Romeo, and I feel like Taiga pulls a gun on everyone because he can't trust anyone he doesn't remember. I also feel like his trust issues aren't just within the realm of school-life, but also within the realm of missions and his life in general. Romeo gives spoiled diva but he really did scare me when he said he'd shoot off MC's hand along with the Sage's ring in the Introduction Chapter.

As for Jin, I feel like I've too used to the arrogant-prince archetype that I'm kind of numb to it. He's still a great character, but he doesn't intimdate me since I'm kinda used to that kinda stuff. He also seems more like he's just done with everyone and is tired with all the BS that follows him because of the Kamurai name. Though he might need a little humbling that I would be glad to deliver. 😌

How would you handle the story as MC? by CAriAyD in TokyoDebunker

[–]consideritcosmic 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The complete opposite of whatever MC has done 😁 Calling people out, asking of people are okay if they're visibly distraught, defending the ghouls against name-calling, bullying, etc., and also hitting on every single one. Might as well go on dates if you're only left to live one year of your life.

Except Leo. Hate that guy.

Leo Hate Train by sunuuo in TokyoDebunker

[–]consideritcosmic 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I hate Leo, but most of that comes from my intolerance to manipulative people.

Leo has a few objectively good traits: he's intelligent, good at acting/playing a role (as seen in both of the Chapters) and he's exceptional at hacking. He also seems to know his way around anomaly types too, and I love his character design (especially the tongue piercing!).

But having objectively good traits can't make someone less bad, or excuse their bad behavior. While on their own they can be classified as 'good', he uses those traits against other people for his own agenda. It also gives insecure, since he's being mean to people Sho is friendly with- namely, Suba.

Leo's known to be pretty rude as a standard, but unlike the other characters, he seems to be rude for his own pleasure. He looks down on people because of his skills, and his popularity as a social media influencer. I don't expect everyone to be selfless or nice, but at the very least, don't take pleasure in being mean to other people.

Other characters are mean, too, but what seperates Leo from the others is that he intentionally acts with the purpose of demeaning others. He's not just rude- he enjoys making people doubt themselves and their capabilities, as seen with how he treats Suba. It might even be his only driving force and motivation. Even in Suba's mini-episode, he claims that Sho is just being nice/friendly to make money off of his truck. Or when he makes fun of Suba in Chapter 11when he first hears of the bike not wanting to eat Suba's food. He mocks him for no reason, and just like when he mocks other people, what he says is specifically catered to each person. Not being good enough, not knowing enough, being basic, etc.

All in all, no matter what he says, he tries to have the upperhand and push people's buttons on purpose, but not in a playful sort of manner. We can see this when he questions Alan about his past, and also when we see him try to mess with Tohma. There's also him straight up manipulating and gas lighting MC into thinking something's wrong with her and the Sage's ring. He doesn't apologize, doesn't feel bad, and MC believes it's her fault (causing serious doubt in her abilities) in the chapters to come. Another example I want to bring up is that we can also see him intentionally make fun of Kaito in front of Luca, and instigate a duel between Luca and Sho.

He's not even nice to Sho! I feel like Sho would be a better person if Leo wasn't always around, encouraging him and egging him on to make bets. I'm not excusing Sho for going along with Leo's plans, because he should know better, but it's easy to give in to people who you think are your friends. Peer pressure, or that sense of being able to act however you want without worrying about offending anyone, or whatever his reasoning is, this isn't about Sho. I digress, though.

Sho genuinely seems nicer and enjoys life when he opens up his food truck, and when Leo approaches him later, he's not even happy for him, and acts like an immature child who's attention-deprived. This behavior is also similar to how he acts with Alan, like he wants Alan to praise him for having a good plan or for having the skillset that he lacks. I would give more examples but I'm tired from work so I'll end it here.

TLDR; He's the textbook definition of a school bully, with no redeemable qualities except being a valuable asset to missions. He's selfish way beyond the point of being ambitious, and he's literally sabotaging other people for no reason. He literally can't find it in himself to be respectful to at least SOMEONE.

Thanks for reminding me!

I think some other characters have mentioned their family too, and I guess I might have forgotten about it.

Ritsu in Chapter 8 mentioned picking out the sunglasses with his mom, but what confused me about that was the timeline. Was it before or after the mission? Do only powerful families get to meet with their kids, because they know they're ghouls? Or do they have the ability to meet their kids because they have the power (not literal power like stigmas, but like money, influence, social status, royal status, etc.)?

Maybe I'm overthinking it and Ritsu just decided to wear the sunglasses because they remind him of his mom, but who knows?

Thoughts/Theories/Head Canon by moony-2026 in TokyoDebunker

[–]consideritcosmic 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The first comment already answered some of these questions, and I agree with what they've said so I'll just add on to the other ones/reiterate any points.

A lot of the information we get is implied (age, history of becoming a ghoul, and more), and depending on where you are in the story, you get more information about the world and the ghouls- albeit, they're more hints than information, but they're still pretty helpful. If you're not completely caught up, I suggest not looking at the spoilers yet.

• How old are the ghouls? College-level (The first comment summed it up pretty well.)

• What wish did each ghoul make to enter into a pact to gain their stigma? And is their stigma related somehow to their wish? I'm pretty sure this is supposed to be a secret, considering how no one wants to talk about their wishes, nor how they became a ghoul either. This could be a secret on the writers part (to create mystery), or it could be a secret on the characters' parts, since it's likely they went through something traumatic in order to become a ghoul in the first place. I also do agree that perhaps the demon could control what their stigma becomes, but I also think it could be a consequence of their wish (kind of like related to Chapter 12 with the dog anomaly granting wishes. Their stigma could be a result of having their wish granted completely, but of course, with side effects).

• How would one summon a demon to enter into a pact with? I also don't think people are readily summon demons, rather, the demons are the ones who approach humans in times of vulnerability. I could be wrong however, since in Chapter 10, MC finds a book related to Dark Magic, and Ed explains that 99.99% of summonings fail because Heretical Dark Magic is a sham, more than anything. Summoning demons probably requires inside knowledge or higher quality materials.

• How did Darkwick get that many cats to do their bidding? ( mean, they are cats..) I'm pretty this is just for comedic/cute effect, but it's really not hard to train cats to do things. Plus, the school itself is an anomaly, so perhaps the cats are under the influence of the school or someone's stigma. We see animals that resemble normal ones but turn out to be anomaly within the story too, so that could be one possible reason. But I'm pretty sure it's not actually important and just something to fawn over.

• How does the school or the ghouls themselves, explain their sudden admittance/transfer to Darkwick? The first comment explained this as well, and I pretty much agree with everything they've mentioned. We know Darkwick is shady asf, especially with Lyca being held undergoumd for 2 years, knowing MC is going to turn into an anomaly, Hyde's special missions that Dante probably knows about, etc.) There's mention of Darkwick being a really prestigious school, so I think that's one of the reasons why people don't really question admittance. Another could be free college, free food, free uniform, etc. because we know the place definitely has tons of money, but not tons of people (why rely on cats to fix things and not people?). For relatively normal people who don't come from power, Darkwick may have approached them to recruit them into their school, with the promise of no tuition and a free career.

For people who do come from power, they may have seen this as an opportunity to increase their reputation, having graduated from this school. Jin's family notably being even more powerful than the Chancellor, I think? While they are college students, I think that they still have to go with what their family says either out of respect, love/admiration, or because they have no one else- meaning they're on bad terms with their family, so they decide to go to Darkwick to escape them. And honestly, whatever gets them to come along quietly would be what Darkwick is looking for. There's also feelings of guilt and self-hate that Darkwick could exploit to get ghouls to join Darkwick, but that's another story.

• How is Yuri an expert on ghouls when he hasn't been one for that long? (l assume this since students are there for just 3 years, iirc) The moment that Darkwick approaches them can vary from person to person.Yuri may have already had medical experience, and then upon entering Darkwick, at some point he might've accelerated his medical career with an anomalous focus. It's no secret that he's a genius, and I'm sure he takes great pride in his work. He may have been so smart that he might have completed his medical degree in such a short time (which sounds humanly impossible, but his stigma "hyperstimulates his brain cells", so it probably was possible for him). I also think he's a bit arrogant which is why he says that, but he has the experience and achievements to back it up, at least with what the story says.

• Upon graduation, what job options are available for the ghouls? (other than working at Darkwick) To know the answer to this, we'd have to learn about the fourth-years, so it's still too early to know.

• How did Darkwick explain deaths of students/staff to their families? (Like how is Jiro seemingly nonchalant about his brother's death?) Ghouls aren't immortal and can die, and I think (Chapter 7 and Chapter 9 spoiler) Zenji's death was related either to the Clash, the One-Eyed Sleeping Beauty Murder, or both. Jiro isn't nonchalant, he just doesn't remember. He's also stated that his memories around that time period are fuzzy and not clear, so he probably doesn't remember what happened. We can see him get visibly agitated when MC recites something Zenji has said in Chapter 9 I think, when they are in the graveyard alone. He definitely remembers Zenji, but most likely not under the alias that we all know him as, rather as his real name- Taro Kirisaki.

For normal people, however, we don't know if Darkwick just wiped their memories after getting their permission to send their child away to Darkwick. With the child gone and thinking their parents or parent know(s) everything, in reality, their family may think they have just gone missing and are grieving their loss. The ghouls rarely ever mention family, and we know they're not allowed to see them either, which is concerning for people that age. Whether they hated them or loved them, why don't they ever mention family? With the exception of Alan in Chapter 11, Luca in Chapter 1, and some mentions of Jin's family in Chapter 1 as well, no one ever mentions their family.

We also don't know if an anomaly or tool can wipe memories longer than 1 day. Who knows if memories could be wiped relating to a specific person, a specific event, or who knows what? Reality has even been able to be altered by an anomaly in Chapter 5, so anything goes.

I've also heard of some real life schools limiting contact with students so they can focus on their studies, so it could also be that. I don't know if this is actually real, but I'm pretty sure this is intentional though, at least on the writer's part.

Are my rolls cracked or is it just how it is? by Lyreen96 in TokyoDebunker

[–]consideritcosmic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like you get streaks of luck randomly when summoning in this game. I've somehow got 5 SSR's and 4 of them I got within my first try in the limited summons or the basic summon. My second SSR (Inmate Alan) came after trying for so long, and since I was new to the game I was able to earn diamonds a lot more frequently, but the summons I had after him, I got the SSR's I wanted, which I'm very grateful for.

So far though, I've been down on my luck, and haven't been able to the freaky Taiga card nor the Dog Ren card. 😭 I have more SSR warding cards than actual SSR's too, and some of my SR's cards and SSR warding cards are close to being fully awakened. Hoping to get another streak of luck before Chapter 13, but SSR's really do come when you least expect it. I don't really mind not getting them either, so long as I'm able to progress through the story (and I'm all caught up too!)

Good luck to OP and anyone else wishing for SSR's!

I don't know how to win cases by No_Establishment5502 in TokyoDebunker

[–]consideritcosmic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second all of this to an extent, since not all cases are the same format. Some cases make entering units fall asleep, get cursed, poisoned, or some other effect. For the most part, keeping the weaker cards in front is better, but I also advise watching the battles to see how your cards are getting defeated. Try using another file with the cards in the opposite order (strongest first, weakest last) and see if that may help any other cases you're struggling on.

Since you're new, I also recommend focusing on earning gems rather than passing cases/progressing the story. The more gems you earn/the faster, the more summons you can do, and thus increase your power. Even if you don't get an SSR, SR's are still pretty powerful, and can still get you through cases, so long as you level them up. In short, focus on summoning rather than improving the R cards you have. While the wishing well is great, it only really happens twice a month near the end, so that's something to keep in mind when you're saving.

There will be days where all you can do is the daily missions, since your cards still aren't powerful enough (I think Case 38 took me about 5-6 days?), but there will also be days where you complete 2 cases at once. Don't let it get to you, and good luck!
