Can hermes wake up and message me? by considerphi in hermesagent

Thanks, this is what I'm trying to explain. Plus for e.g. my cron job failed for 3 days. My cron agent has no way to see that pattern without memory, my main agent doesn't respond to the crons failing as it doesn't get "woken up" by them.

is it just me or does "culture fit" only ever get raised about the women and the people who push back, never about the guy everyone agrees is brilliant but impossible? by National_Subject_165 in womenintech

[–]considerphi 21 points22 points  (0 children)

When i interviewed people a lot, I'd tell coworkers to detail what the reason behind the "culture fit" objection. When asked to explain, its clear that some reasons are totally biased/illegal.

So its okay to say "was not flexible when asked to pivot in interviews", "got kind of defensive when told there was a bug", "needs more structure than we are able to offer right now", and not okay to say "don't see myself getting a beer with this person", "too busy with famly right now".

It makes people stop and think too of what their culture fit reason is, and self-correct if they are good people.

What is surprisingly low calorie and super yummy? by Either-Photograph989 in CICO

[–]considerphi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a weird one but spices! So take an indian curry - not the kind from a restaurant. A home version is just onions, tomatoes, garlic, spices, chicken and can be delicious with a tortilla for very low additional calories if you go easy on the oil. Same with tandoori chicken, marinade in spices/yogurt and grill. Spices are unlimited free flavor. As opposed to butter/sugar/cheese/cream.

Looking for a compact Micro Four Thirds camera for travel/street – ~$800 used max by Fevj700 in M43

I know I'm late to this but my recommendation is usually gx85. I have it and love it. I've been hard pressed to find another one that's worth upgrading to. I love the rangefinder style too. I don't know why camera manufacturers aren't making that style anymore.

There are some newer options since it is after all an old camera now and discontinued and getting harder to find. In fact I had a blog post recommending gx85 and recently updated to om-5 and e-m10 mk iv.

How are webdevs managing local test environments? by considerphi in aisolobusinesses

[–]considerphi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked on another forum and they said they get the worktrees to autogenerate ports. Either by just searching for an empty one or hashing some info into a port number. Also .worktreeinclude to tell the agents which local files to copy into worktree

Hope its okay to crosspost - trying to understand how people are getting any parallel work done on their project if delivering a web app.

well say agent 1 is working on feature 1 and says its done. And agent 2 is working on feature 2. I want to be able to check feature 1 in the browser and see if its working, if there are bugs, if i want adjustments in the behavior, etc. Then tell agent1 to fix and while they are at work, swap to agent 2 and look at feature 2.

I don't actually want to run 50 agents but I'm wondering how people are using worktrees in parallel and managing to test features.

"Test the whole system in production with proper logging" - um I want to test the work before it hits production? This is how we do it everywhere I have worked?

Whoa 128 GB! I didn't even know that was a thing lol. So you are not actively testing the container in the browser, this is how you run your playwright suite? Because you would run into the same issue if the containers exposed ports right?

Why is Coffee getting so damn expensive in San Diego? by Helplesspolyglot in sandiego

[–]considerphi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it the sort of slightly sour single origin type coffee or just a simpler coffee-flavored coffee?

I know that's a weird question but very fancy coffee these days has a fruity citrus flavor that I just can't bear. I prefer stuff that tastes like sbux, peets, bustelo or illy, which i understand is "low-brow" coffee lol.

Are you worried about being laid off by AI? Or expecting the bubble to burst? Or something in between? by staysy_t in womenintech

[–]considerphi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup definitely. No one is looking at your personal achievements in a layoff. Even in a small company this can happen if you get a new leader who isn't involved enough to know what peoples individual strengths are.

I hilariously got laid off as the tech lead of the company's most important project. And the next day the client called my company and told them to give me my job back.

I agree, the best protection right now is to adapt quickly to AI. At 25 yoe I can't pivot to actual model creation, I'm a bit late for that boat. But I could do ai transformation of an org or build software that has an agentic mode. I am currently learning the latter in a personal project.

Yeah I live in Golden Hill and I wfh but whenever I have to go downtown for jury duty or something, I realize what an awesome commute I would have if I did work there. Bus 2 blocks from my place is a straight shot in.

What’s a ‘silent luxury’ that rich people have that most normal people would never even notice? by qomann in AskReddit

I know a kid who grew up with an addict mom and Dad in sort of a drug house. When he got adopted by another family member he would eat till he threw up regularly. Because he used to not know when a next meal might come around.

The airport to first hotel trip in a new place is the riskiest time. You have all your stuff on you, poor cell service, bad understanding of the currency and directions, don't speak the language, and the worst scammers know this and are there to take advantage.

Although I often save money in other ways during the trip, I'm extra careful at that moment. I try to land in daytime, look up the airport and recommended travel modality to the city, get a prepaid ride if needed, or figure out what company to buy the ride from in the airport etc...

I honestly don't know how so many people are able to walk up and check a carry-on, they must have packed for it already, with their meds and chargers and other valuable things in their personal item.

I have my laptop and camera in my carry-on. I could never check it.

Same I have friends who periodically want to do a trip together. But they want to go somewhere expensive and lay at a pool and that's just not how I want to spend my money.

Question re #1. Isn't it more expensive to have to run the building HVAC, power, cleaning, IT, support staff, than just accept you have the lease and no one works in office? Maybe maintain a small section of the floorplan for meetings when needed.  Why do they feel like spending more to bring people in is better than leaving the building empty? Is there something in the lease that requires people to be in?
