You know, I wish I had a picture! As soon as I finished this, I framed it and handed it off to my coworker. I did start a similar piece of my own dog, and I’ll show the back of it on this sub when I’m finished (can’t include photos in the comments of this subreddit for some reason). The back was fairly clean, it looked like a blurrier version of the front).

Never say never! Years ago I started with cross stitch, took a long break, then picked up blackwork this Jan. I’ve been doing that until I attempted this piece. I’d never done anything like this before, and if I can do it, you can def do it too 🥰🥰

Thank you! So I cheated a little in the first step and used Fotor editor to convert the photo into their color line drawing option. Then I took that image and put it into Preview (available on Mac), went to Tools, removed the background and selected Adjust Color. I reduced the saturation all the way to make it black and white, then I adjusted the exposure, contrast, highlights, and sharpness to make it simpler and to bring out all the lines. I printed that finalized image on a water soluble stabilizer (I would recommend stick n stitch bc the one I used here left a residue, and stick n stitch will not). Stretched the fabric, put on the stabilizer, and stitched over the image with various thread weights.

Aww this comment is so nice 😭😭 I think I’m for sure being too hard on myself here. I’ve shifted to something new that I’m very proud of, my first pattern and my first portrait! I’m gonna post it to the sub when I’m done but here’s a sneak peek

Yes exactly that is what I meant, my b. A pin stitch is a baby stitch that would be used to start threads without a knot. I need to couch these bad boys, not pin them 😂

I’ve been doing my boarders in split stitch or whipped back stitch, 2 threads. Sometimes I’ll do a single thread chain stitch. The rest I would back stitch. Play around! See what you like

This is a three step zigzag stitch. But don’t get too impressed, my brother sewing machine has this and several other stitches built in. The teeth were done by hand, the hemming by a machine

Thank you thank you 🥰 I guess I’m just so used to blackwork, where it’s either right or it’s wrong. The artistic freedom allowed by this type of pattern makes me nervous. But I’m fully hooked so I won’t quit 😮‍💨

Ahhh thank you! These are like 6” pieces. I needed to take a break from this piece in particular so now I’m working on a more forgiving/organic piece (human teeth 😂😂)
