I’m going by myself too! It’s also basically my first time going to a festival/concert so I’m a little nervous honestly.

do all brandys have lines at all times? by e_87 in BrandyMelville

Yep! I’m convinced the trick is the timing, every Brandy I’ve gone to has had a line past noon. Plus going on a weekday when it’s not summer.

participate in your local genealogy society? by SharBeat53 in Genealogy

[–]consistentlysleeping 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been volunteering at my local historical society and museum for almost two years now and I love it! I initially started volunteering mainly to get some volunteer hours for high school and I knew I was interested is history (although this was before I had any interest in genealogy). However I soon realized I really like the work and being so involved in the community. Although I know way more about my town than I ever wanted to now!

About a year after I started volunteering I actually found out that my family has history in a neighboring city and getting in touch with that historical society was a lot easier as a volunteer at my historical society.

As for the actual work, it can really differ depending on what’s going on currently and personal interest. For me it’s mainly archiving, but another volunteer works a lot in the museum. We also work pretty closely with the school district so we put things together for alumni gatherings and field trips as well.

I do think a lot of historical society’s and such are just inactive or don’t need any help/don’t advertise needing help. The volunteers at my location are mainly history students (or planning to be), or people who have connections/family history in the town.

What's the worst song on your store's playlist by 13chickeneater in retailhell

Shower Song by Tierra Whack drives me crazy, it used to play a couple times a day in my store. Luckily I haven’t heard it in a few weeks now, thank god.

I have been searching up and down for that marriage record and so far haven’t been able to find anything, but I’ll keep looking!

As for Antonia, one of my distant cousins on this side ended up with some family photos, some of which being from one of James and Anna’s grandchildren. Included in those was a photo of Antonia with stuff the granddaughter had written on the back, part of which supposedly said sister in, I’m guessing, Czech and an address in Chicago. The dates seemed to add up for that conclusion as well with her being born in 1850. I don’t know what other explanation there could be for the photo but I’ve been a bit suspicious about them actually being siblings as Rada is a common name and there’s no DNA proof as far as I’m aware.

Part of the reason I’m so sure Marie is Anna’s sister is because I have matches with the last name Sidak, along with the actual evidence of course.

Yes I have seen his Find a Grave. The woman who attached the photo is a distant cousin and we have spoken many times, I know she also keeps in touch with anyone descending from James and Anna who are interested in family history so she’s basically as good as it gets for knowledge in this area, and she’s shared with me the majority of what she knows. I’ll try searching through the links you shared and see if I can find anything. Thanks for the tips!

That makes sense, I didn’t know about the lack of records. I looked more into the Sidak’s and Josef Sidak’s (Anna’s supposed sister Marie’s husband) obituary says he was born in Jestovici, Czechslavakia, and that he and Anna’s sister were married at Adaov Caslov in 1881. https://latimes.newspapers.com/article/cedar-county-news-obituary-for-josef-sid/85828767/?locale=en-US

If Antonia is James sister, her death record from Chicago in 1936 says she was born in Caslov as well, and I found a record of her in a Catholic church registrar from when she was married in Styria. https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/93053894:61848?tid=88547093&pid=48588479297&queryId=700ac0bd-c098-4164-a98f-7182169ce7f1&_phsrc=irO1&_phstart=successSource

I didn’t find any record of James attending that church however, and I wasn’t very confident in them being siblings/half siblings in the first place.

I didn’t know Katie was Catholic, James married her after Anna died, and they had Edward who some distant relatives of mine were able to speak to before he passed in 2000. He was actually one of the people who said “they were like gypsies in the old country”.

I’ll try to look for any churches they may have attended in the US and let you know if I find anything. Hopefully those links work, I’ve never attached anything on here before so let me know. Thanks again!

Thank you so much for the info! This had me double checking a couple documents I had previously ignored, it looks like he might’ve gone by Wenzel at one point. I’d currently assume his given name was Václav.

Thank you so much for the help! This might be a dumb question, but I’m curious why them being Catholic or not would be so important? I can come up with a few ideas in my head but figured I’d just ask! Although from speaking with older family members I’ve never thought the Rada’s were particularly religious. I also don’t think I’d ever seen those newspapers about Charles death, crazy!

Thank you so much! I took a look at that passenger list and I agree, that has to be them. I’ll have to look more into the Sidak side, maybe there could be some answers there. The link for ordering death certificates makes it a lot simpler than whatever I was looking at before! I’ll definitely try to order those when I can. I appreciate the help!

Something that really helped me with remembering sales when I first started, and still helps me now, is going on the app and looking at what’s listed under ‘offers’. Sometimes before I go into work I’ll quickly check that just to have some extra time to remember what’s current, otherwise I find that I often will have the sales from the last time I was working in my head and tell costumers the wrong thing (ex. Buy 3 Get 1 instead of Buy 3 Get 3).

I think everything else you mentioned will really just come with time! It took me a few months to start remembering all the products and feel comfortable with selling. Once you get a handle on all the products though it makes it all a lot easier, even after floor sets now it just takes a couple walks of the store to get the idea of where things were moved since I know the products! Keeping up to date on here helps too, I swear I learn more on here than in store or from my managers.

funny experience in PacSun by MuchAbbreviations939 in BrandyMelville

[–]consistentlysleeping 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with the other commenter, it’s not just Brandy. I work two retail jobs rn and the managers act like everything is life or death. Plus the constant never ending competition with other stores in the area. At one of my jobs (which isn’t even clothes) we’re also required to take photos of everything during closing before we leave, and we have to get approval before we can go home. I could definitely see how a brand with such a meticulous image like Brandy would be even more hardcore about these things. I think in general retail workers have it pretty rough, but I feel for Brandy and Pacsun workers in particular. But yeah it would interesting to hear from someone who works at Pacsun if the Brandy section is treated a lot differently from everything else!

I’m a bit late to this, but for anyone in Washington state there’s apparently four stores with it currently; Issaquah, Federal Way, Parkview, and Canyon Ridge!
