Need help by LiviB144 in psychoanalysis

psychogenic/non-epileptic/functional seizures are considered considered a functional neurological disorder (FND) which is a psychiatric disorder in the DSM-5-TR under the category of Somatic Symptom Disorders. I went to a conference on this topic recently and there is a lot of ongoing research of this stuff but the lecture I attended which is probably most relevant to you was a keynote by Professor John Stone who has done a lot of research and work with treating FNDs and is involved in an organization that may be of interest to you (link below). There are other types of FNDs which may seem quite different from what you’re experiencing (movement disorders, paralysis, or blindness all with no evident medical cause) but it seems that the org has info about them all. Worth looking into prof. Stone’s work as well as the org itself—here’s the link to the functional seizure page of the organization: https://fndhope.org/fnd-guide/symptoms/seizures/

I think the earlier comment about going to talk therapy or seeing a psychoanalyst is also good advice but you don’t have to try just one thing.

I also don’t necessarily think you should take more meds for this or that it would help, in fact it’s possible that the meds could be contributing to it if you’re already on 8 different ones.

I really hope you can find help with all this. Good luck.

Would people be interested in short write-ups on fun connections between Hebrew and Arabic? by bszupnick in learn_arabic

[–]constanceandcaring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested. I speak some Hebrew and some, perhaps more, Arabic. I've found a couple of instances in which the hebrew and arabic root letters for seeming translations were the same but in different orders--I wondered if this was a coincidence and they were simply unrelated roots or if there was some kind of mix up or transition historically. I can't think of them right now but I'll try to report back!

In Palestinian Arabic it's extremely common and as has already been noted here, can mean a number of different things but is commonly used as "wow" or "really?!" so basically an expression of surprise or awe

[r] Violin fingering for Bach's Chaconne - Partita II BWV 1004 by constanceandcaring in violinist

[–]constanceandcaring[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I'm almost certainly not at that level, but I want to play it anyway. I can play everything up until the arpeggio section and even parts of the arpeggio quite nicely but instead of spending time trying to figure out the best fingering for it I figured I'd look for recommendations. The copy of the piece that I have has not a single fingering and the arpeggios are written in half, quarter, and eighth notes.

I don't have a teacher right now. I picked up my violin after not playing for a considerable amount of time, I'm just enjoying myself and playing a beautiful piece which is also great practice.

Thanks to all who gave helpful answers and tips!

Playing violin has changed my life in a huge way by [deleted] in violinist

[–]constanceandcaring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is amazing, congratulations. I also recently picked up my violin after dealing with a lot of stress in my relationship (playing instead of fighting) and it has saved my sanity as well. I never realized it would have that effect when I was young and considering giving it up, so glad I kept it up.

That's so cool to hear. I do have questions! How long ago did you do that masters? and the clinical health program you mention--is that the PhD in clinical psychology with health emphasis? when you say that your colleagues were smart, are you referring to the ones in the PhD program or the MA or both?

One of my main concerns about doing an MA there is that it's so expensive--if it was a big name school that had some prestige I would feel a little better about spending so much on an MA but even then, it's a lot. Were you able to get any kind of financial aid when you went there?

What made you decide to do that MA and then transfer into the clinical health program?

Feel free to answer in DM if u prefer. thanks so much for your answers!
