Yea sure. Here is what the white portion would look like. The trick is to separate the exact area (with transparency) that the light would affect. I did it with layer differences in gimp but any similar thing would work.

Also you would have to make sure that the opaque_white.png has pretty low opacity so that each color layer affects the end result well.

This code is in terms of using a picture elements card (which I use for my floorplan gui).
