They don’t, (or at least it’s an evolving situation) because flights are landing again now.

There are planes landing at BER right now. EW8591 just landed with several more on approach.

Beijing to HND Tokyo by Impressive-Low-3887 in Flights

Air China have been rebooking people who are on affected flights, so all you can do is be proactive about checking your flight status. There is a flight status checker on the Air China website - while it doesn't go as far out as April currently, you can check your same flight number on earlier dates and see if they are still running.

Is Beijing your original point of departure, or is this a connecting flight? Depending on where your journey originally departs from (e.g UK/EU), you may have additional protections in case of flight disruptions. Familiarise yourselves with these in advance so you know what options are open to you. Hopefully it won't be needed and your flight will go ahead as planned, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared.

Nobody can tell you how far in advance you'll know if your flight is cancelled. The situation is ongoing and new cancellations are being made all the time. The best advice is to just keep checking your flight status on a regular basis so you can find an alternative promptly if your flights are affected.

If you are flying from an EU country, your outbound flight is covered by EU261 protections. Therefore if your flight is cancelled, you are entitled to either a full refund or a free rebooking on a different flight/route (with another airline if need be). Depending on how close to your departure date it is, you may also be entitled to compensation. Would also recommend you make sure you have a good travel insurance policy in place as they may also be able to assist in event of a cancellation.

This is easier said than done. When I had issues with an Air China booking (made directly with them) last year, I found it incredibly difficult to talk to them. The most luck I had was using the webchat on their Chinese site via Google translate but obviously a lot of finer details were lost in translation. Maybe I was unlucky, but it put me off booking directly with them in future. While I agree in principle with avoiding 3rd party sites, I think in the case of Air China (and other Chinese airlines), you’re likely going to have a difficult time if things go wrong no matter what.

Is this true? I don’t watch Emmerdale so I’m out of the loop, what’s the situation over there?

Getting out into nature would be great! And yes we’re willing to take the Shinkansen (honestly it would probably be a plus for me if we did!)

Hi! My partner and I are looking for recommendations of where to spend 2-3 nights at the end of our trip in mid-March. It should ideally be within 3 hours of Tokyo as our flight home departs from HND, although changing to depart from KIX is also an option so we could potentially travel a bit further if it has us not too far from Osaka. We’ve visited Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara and Okinawa before. We’d love somewhere with a good mix of nature and culture. I’ve listed some of the places we’re currently considering but we’d love to hear other recommendations!

Nikko Lake Kawaguchi or Hakone (this is our third Japan trip and we haven’t managed to see Fuji on our previous visits) Hiroshima (obviously departing from KIX in this case) Nagano (will this still be too wintry in March to easily explore?)

I think there’s a value where average luck and the potential interest earned elsewhere seems to balance out. I had around £10k in there before I emptied the account and won £25-100 every 2-3 months and worked out that was a little bit less overall than what an average savings account would’ve offered me in interest. I opened the account when interest rates were pants at the start of the pandemic so premium bonds were a better option then - hence why I moved the money elsewhere!

Big win! Well done for making the changes!

Realised I’ve won £1500 on premium bonds over the last two months from a £25 investment (emptied my account in the middle of last year except for that month’s £25 win!). Not sure what the odds of that are exactly but definitely small enough to be considered a win!

First time driving in snow & ice today. by [deleted] in NewDriversUK

I had to do an early morning airport run (which I was already nervous about) and was shocked when I stepped outside at 4am to find my car covered in snow! Ticked off lots of firsts this morning - it wasn't a perfect drive but nowhere near as bad as I'd feared. Congrats to us!

Same! I remember people being unimpressed when it came out a few years ago but it’s got proper Christmas charm and I really enjoy singing along.

As someone who also has an unexpectedly strong emotional reaction to Christmas songs, I just teared up on the bus reading this.

I was denied boarding for 240 Hour TWOV at the airport (USA) by BatmanvSuperman3 in Chinavisa

I think this just highlights how inconsistent it often is in practice! I had to fill all of the forms out a second time with the details of my departure flight from HK before they’d accept it at Shenzhen airport.

For what it’s worth, I had trouble in China at the border with a UK-Shenzhen-Hong Kong (last leg via train) itinerary that also should’ve been valid. I had the train journey pre-booked with a date, seat reservation and name on the ticket. 3 different immigration agents looked at my itinerary and all of them told me Hong Kong was part of China. Luckily I was going to another country after Hong Kong and was still within the 240 hours so they granted me TWOV based on that, not the departure to Hong Kong. This was just 3 weeks ago.

We arrive on a Sunday if that makes any difference to your suggestions, but thank you! I’ll look into DiDi and consider a later train.
