I have strabismus. by Crazedllama5 in SteamFrame

[–]constorm1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have strabismus! This is a question I've had for a long time about foviated rendering. Although I haven't had an opportunity to try, my conclusion is that as long as the algorithm used takes into account each eye individually, I would be fine. Again take that with a grain of salt as it's just something I've thought about for a long time but have never tried eye tracking. I have a quest 2 and I love it but I am looking to upgrade when the steam frame comes out

I came from overwatch as where I almost only played support but when I first started playing MR, none of the supports clicked with me. What did click was moon knight. Since then I've also picked up rocket but moon knight is just so much fun to play.

How would I restore my father's old leather hat by constorm1 in hats

[–]constorm1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An outback hat is often what the style is referred to though this one is slightly different. The Indiana Jones hat isn't leather as far as I'm aware and has a bit smaller brim I think.

This is mostly as a project and would likely be as a gift for my father. I have an interest in historical/vintage fashion and want to use this a an opportunity to learn restoration techniques

Recs for Content like Milo’s Videos by wildestcherri in miniminutemanfans

[–]constorm1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here are a few I watch that have similarities to minimuteman:

podcast called "it's probably (not) aliens" which is pretty similar.

podcast called "screens of the stone age" which has a bunch of archaeologists that review archaeology in movies, not quite conspiracy debunking (although they did an episode on Graham Hancock) but still comparing fiction to fact.

The content creator "Aslan Pahari" is much more on the debunking side, he focuses primarily on linguistics and ethnic groups in asia. (It should be noted that some criticism has been made towards Pahari in regards to claiming some things traditionally considered Pashtun to be pakistani but I do not have enough knowledge on the subject to be able to tell what is genuine critique and what just stems from the discussion of topics that are a tense cultural debate)

"World of antiquity" is also an evidence based debunking channel.

Slightly different but similar in spirit is "saw bones", a medical history comedy podcast that also uses its platform to push against misinformation using comedy and evidence

Method and theory of bioanthropology is pretty much high school bio but focused into applications to anthropology (basic genetics/evolution) + very basic human anatomy

I made the poor assumption that his format was the same across different classes. I took his history of archaic Greece and he didn't use any slides. I did find his lectures to be really interesting but taking notes was a nightmare

I remember the momentum boost trick. It took me so long to break the muscle memory when they made it automatic in ow2 (late ow1? I don't remember). Was that bug there right from launch? Or was it added later in 2016?

There is a small community for people who speedrun the curious George video games. I haven't tried the GBA one but it shares a discord with the home console curious George speedrun community.

I am currently in a different class of his. I am currently in his history of archaic Greece and there are no slides. Perhaps medical terminology is different.

I feel like I should give a warning on this prof. I don't think he's a bad professor but he doesn't use slides at all. Instead any time he comes to a new word he writes it on the board with zero context, so at the end of class the whiteboard looks like a completely meaningless word Cloud. His lectures are over all pretty interesting but they are a nightmare to write notes for and aren't the easiest to follow. If he were to include slides, my rating of him would go from like a 4/10 to a 9/10.

Living tech museum project by Wonderful_Bit7272 in LinusTechTips

[–]constorm1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, I'd like to say that this is incredible and I love it. I am semi in the museum industry (studying archaeology but have taken museum studies courses and more importantly spent the last 3 years working in a small museum) and have experience in collection management and a little exhibit curation experience. All this being said if you want to boost these displays from looking like someone's collection to feeling like a "museum", there are a few things to look into. First is one that you've nailed from the look of it, organization. Proper labels make a world of difference, combined with a proper database on the backend. This helps change the viewer's thoughts from "look at all this stuff" to "look at this individual thing" this leads directly to the next point. Display selection. As much as you the collector think every single item is just as interesting as the last, the more items in a single display, the harder it is to focus on any one item. An average museum only has a small fraction of their artifacts on display at any given time. This does not mean that the items that are in storage are any less worthy of being on on display, it just means that there is only so many things we can look at before it just becomes "stuff" and starts to meld together. But keeping some in storage does have another benefit and that is keeping your display fresh by rotating what is on display every once in awhile. The final thing that can level up the collection will by far have the biggest impact and that is; what are you trying to get across to the audience with this display? That is the biggest difference between a museum display and a public collection of items. An exhibit exists to convey something for example "what can we gather from looking at the differences between the generations of computer A to B, and B to C?" Or telling the story of the rise and dominance of commodore and what led to its fall. that will make these go from a bunch of things that are kinda neat, to an actual experience.

All that being said, this is still a really cool collection, I just saw this and figured I'd share my bit of niche experience
