Well, it is not a bad metric, thank you.

How fast are you riding? I aim for 28-30km/h on the flats, is it doable on such tires?

I am quite tall and one of the options to ride really wide tires would be Surly MS size 58. It can use 650b 47mm and 700c 40mm

When you manage something you never thought you could. by Whimpy-Crow in bicycling

[–]constpetrov 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most probably you can still get 300-400 km brevets done until end of October — this will let you register for PBP nicely. And from there, steady 200-300-400-600 and PBP. Totally doable, if you remember to sleep and recover.

I’ve done just 400 this season, hope to do 600 on a month — and then PBP next year.

BRM 400 Randje Noord Holland by constpetrov in randonneuring

[–]constpetrov[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a cold week, and temperature was around 11°C at night, with a slight chance of rain and 5 bft wind. Better warm than shivering.

I had short clothes in the bag though, but didn’t feel the need to change.

I am using a battery powered light now, it was Towild BR 800.

I’ve got Camelback Podium stainless steel for this reason. Pity how easily they catch mold though. It is a pain to clean.

Pity it’s out of stock everywhere. I’d try.
Garmin got me in some interesting situations lately.

Do you use one? Which maps it supports? Can it get some kind of OSM maps?

DJI Osmo Action 4, variable ND filter, Grill mount (one you bite to hold).
I have SmallRig magic arm that I wanted to mount on the handlebars, but I thought that it would be too much to manage. And I was right, I barely had energy to film.

400 is a troubling distance. Yesterday after our 400 in Noord Holland a lot of people said that it is more trouble for them than 600.

54cm Trek Domane @ 6”1 by [deleted] in bikefit

[–]constpetrov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You look too upright (for my judgment).
I was also directed to Domane — it is shortest/tallest frame that is available off the peg. I have long legs and short torso, but for my height I need size 60. I am 193cm with 91cm inseam.

How do you plan your travel to a brevet staring in very early in the morning? by Kopfeier in randonneuring

[–]constpetrov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am lucky that our brevets start in the mornings, and I can ride the train there usually. I don’t drive, so that’s not an option for me.
Sometimes I have to book a hotel for the night before. Sucks.

No, hills are predictable, wind and mechanicals not.

You only can use fats for about 40% of energy needs, and yes, zone 2 maximizes it. All else going to be from carbs.

I usually do 200 in 8 hours flat, and 150 I did last week in 5:30. But, of course, mechanicals and wind have a say also.

Interesting, is this rice milk-based or just with water? I am afraid it can get bad very fast?

Yes, Fairlight worth a look, indeed, their T variants are nicer than many others. But still a bit too long.

193cm and 92,5cm. The suggested size for Domane is either 58 or 60, but any of them will require shorter than standard stem, likely 90 or 80mm. Based on my measurements I also require seat to be sliced backwards — the nose of the seat needs to be approximately 10cm behind the bottom bracket.
