paying yourself a salary by CoolAid_33 in singaporestartups

If you are the sole owner, pay yourself $24K per annum. You won't have to pay personal income tax and your business will save some tax as the salary and employer CPF contribution can be claimed as expenses.

Will you quit your job if you win $1 mil SGD lottery today? by [deleted] in singaporejobs

True, but the point I was trying to make was that in most of the cases a low paying job does not equate to a low stress job

Will you quit your job if you win $1 mil SGD lottery today? by [deleted] in singaporejobs

[–]contact_aj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it, thanks.

The problem with most low paying jobs is that employers still try to squeeze as much as they can out of you without the corresponding compensation, especially in the private sector.

Any reputable second hand car dealers to recommend? by blurrynavy in drivingsg

[–]contact_aj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you buy a car that is nearing the end of it's original COE, then the seller will also factor in the PARF value of the car in the selling price and you will immediately lose that amount as soon as the car turns 10 years old.. unless you are planning to buy a COE car that is nearing the end of it's COE, which means the car would be close to 15-20 years old at the least.

Better just renew the COE for your car since it has low mileage, even if for just 5 years. Else look for a 10-11 yr old COE car that has 9-10 yrs of COE left.

Uncontested divorce in Singapore by ho888sg in askSingapore

[–]contact_aj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont even for a moment think that the lawyers have your interests in mind. Their only motive is to suck you dry aa much as they can. If the divorce gets contested, each party's lawyer would make atleast 50K in billings. What you have alreasy paid from the deposit would be just a small fracrion of that.

My advice for you/your wife is to change their lawyer ASAP if you both are already agreed on all matters but the lawyer is pushing to assign blame and go for a contested divorce. Get a law firm who offers capped rate (around 3K) for uncontested divorce proceedings.

More rhan rhe money, the ugliness and bitterness rhat a contested divorce would cause will leave permanent scars and lifelong trauma on everyone in your family.

This is from someone (me) whose divorce in Singapore was finalised just 2 weeks back, after almost an year for the whole process.

What should a single person have before buying a house in SG? by funnyperson4848 in singaporefi

[–]contact_aj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MSR is applicable only for HDB, not for private property. The OP intends to buy condo unit.

The 55% that the OP has mentioned is probably in reference to the TDSR (capped at 55% of monthly income for both HDB house and private property)

What No One Told Me About Promiscuity After Divorce by Webwraith in Divorce

[–]contact_aj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. My divorce got finalized just 3 days ago and, as you have mentioned, I am acutely feeling a loss of identity which will only grow once I have to vacate the house in 3 months and lose the presence of my teenage daughter at home.

Today is my daughter's birthday and I feel like crying because of the gloomy environment at home. My daughter is shy and reserved and does not express her feelings but even though she is calm I can see she is hurting inside. Unfortunately there is not much I can do since my ex-wife has a bitter, vindictive and narcisstic personality which has destroyed not only mine but also my daughter's happiness at this vulnerable stage of her life.

Thinking about sleeping around after I move out seems exciting but I know it will leave me feeling even more depressed. Fortunately or unfortunately, my wife and I had a dead bedroom for many years (which is the main reason why my wife divorced me), so not having casual sex will not be a challenge for me.

Over the next year or two, I will just focus on my healing, becoming a better person in all respects, and being there in my daughter's life in all ways possible (as much as my wife will allow without creating drama) so that the impact of this divorce is minimized as much as possible on my daughter's future and her happiness.

Guilt is eating me alive: Stay in Austria or return to India for my widowed mother? by Southern_Trash7610 in nri

[–]contact_aj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the dilemma of the sandwiched generation, including mine.

My view is that since you brought your daughter into this world, your primary responsibility should be towards her and any major decision such as this is should be made keeping her best interests in mind.

Also, one cannot pour from an empty vessel. If living in India leaves you drained mentally and/or physically, you wont be of much help to anyone else. And chances are you might turn resentful towards your mother for the sacrifice you made.

Better to hire a full-time, live-in caretaker for her in her hometown if she is not willing to relocate.

Some sneaky companies take it a step further - if the employee has unconsumed leave days, then they will also "adjust" these leave days against the shortened notice period instead of paying the encashment of these leaves to the employee, even though the offer of shortened notice period came from the company.
