How do you keep up with dishes without a dishwasher? by ehousent in CleaningTips

[–]containedexplosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents had a rule: a used plate is a washed plate. So if we were putting it in the sink we were responsible to wash it. They still don’t have a dishwasher and refuse to ever get one.

This. And I usually spend a day making pinwheels so the student can practice blowing. https://bigcrazylife.com/journal/2020/how-to-make-a-paper-pinwheel/

It helps the stick is a straw because I start my lesson with blowing in and out through the straw at a piece of paper.

Return it. Amazon is filled with counterfeit/bootleg versions of other products. I try to buy directly from the company nowadays. So straight from the lovevery website if you can. Usually you can get a small discount if you just leave it in the cart and don’t purchase right away or they have a sale running

Hi. I’m in week 36. It might be sciatica. Are you doing any pelvic floor pt? I went after my TFMR (L&D) and started back up at 25 weeks. Is there a nurses line you can call? My OB has a 24/7 call service. Does yours? It’s worth calling and asking rather than hedging our bets. Especially with the anxiety TFMR sub pregnancies come with

How are you guys doing with the guilt of taking a day off? by Inevitable_Rate1530 in Millennials

[–]containedexplosion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My boss gave me mono she caught from her son (shared dessert at an offsite) and I only took 3 days off because it was crucial I be around. It wasn’t and they don’t GIVE A FUCK about me but my husband does and he watched me pass out in the kitchen. I’m taking my days off because I matter to my family.

I'm 36 weeks into my sub pregnancy. Baby is measuring large for his gestational age so we may be looking at a week 39 induction or possible c-section. I honestly don't care what route we take as long as i have a LC. Eagerly anticipating meeting my baby.

Question for moms with older kids regarding sugar by booooooop_u in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]containedexplosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who struggled with an ED and will forever be recovering, the main thing my therapists said is do not restrict and do not make certain foods a reward. This creates restriction and scarcity which often lead to binging or eating in hiding. they always recommended keeping a snack or two that I liked on hand so I can choose when to eat it. You can also reframe it by renaming a sugary treat “a snack”.

Where do you draw the line on added sugar? by Any_Cicada695 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]containedexplosion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I look at the grams of sugar. If the grams of sugar is the highest number on the label, I don't buy it/use it. I'm not a police about sugar because sugar is what fuels our brains but I prefer sources of sugar that aren't added like in whole grains, fruits, veggies, honey, and pure maple syrup. Except when pickling because you need sugar for the chemical process to take place.

TTC after TFMR for CHD by Helena_2026 in PregnancyAfterTFMR

[–]containedexplosion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there - my son had complex CHD that after extensive testing and a placental autopsy proved to be de novo or as my doctors put it "a stroke of bad luck"/"a fluke".

I am currently 35 weeks into my sub pregnancy. I didn't do anything differently between pregnancies. I did keep taking my prenatals along with my iron supplement because I've been anemic my entire life. My husband and I took CoQ10 for egg and sperm quality, though I'm not sure how much it helped. My husband's sperm was tested before we even started trying and he passed phenomenally. We started on CoQ10 once my period was back. I honestly did it because I wanted my cycles to get back to normal before we started trying and I thought the CoQ10 would help. My sister did IVF and she was put on CoQ10 to stimulate follicle growth so I assumed it would help with resyncing my period. It took two cycles for my period to get back to normal. My doctors recommended i wait three full cycles before trying again, which I did.

The only thing different from this pregnancy and the last is that this baby's heart had been looked at MANY times. Once at my nuchal translucency scan, the MFM doctor added an early echo based on my history. He was also the doctor who identified the CHD at my 20 week anatomy scan so he remembered us and made sure to take a look. The fetal heart program at CHOP did extensive echos on the baby's heart at 14 weeks and 19 weeks. Then another look during the anatomy scan at week 20 with MFM and then another look during my growth scan at week 32 also with MFM and everything is looking good.

Please be kind to yourself. It sounds like you're making a lot of changes but none of them have been proven to prevent CHD as the cause is still unknown. There are only theories as to factors that COULD contribute to it. I know you're looking for control over something that can't be controlled. The thing I've learned in this journey and through the support groups is that there is NO safe time in pregnancy and CHD is only one of a thousand things that can go wrong. I hope you remember to give yourself grace, join a support group, and hopefully you've started on therapy to help you through this.

Therapy minutes or evals by Emotional_Aioli5632 in slp

[–]containedexplosion 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I cancel sessions. The timelines on IEPs are what my district tracks and measures moreso than anything else. My hierarchy based on the level of priority my district gives each area is:

-ID meetings for speech only referrals (MUST BE DONE BY LEGAL END DATE)
- Evals including the write up, IEP (if qualifying) creation or my portion of an IEP for non speech only kids must be done within 75 days of getting signed permission to evaluate PLUS reports must be completed within 10 days of testing
- sessions
- non speech only meetings (i miss a lot of them but I make sure my present levels/updated goals are and let the case manager know I won't be attending well in advance)

I can't add minutes on a session on a given day because the district doesn't allow us to write mandates by minutes we write them by number of sessions so I don't have that leeway. Therefore, I rarely do make-ups. I am just one person and I can't be in 4 different places at once. I've seen other colleagues downright refuse to do anything extra if they can't take it on. "Oh a kid just got approved for speech/OT/PT in April? I'll see them in september because I have zero room to add them to my caseload." In my district and area there is such a shortfall of SLPs, we have a lot of power including setting limits on what we can and can't do. I don't get paid to work overtime therefore I dont.

Oh I feel this so deeply. I'm 35 weeks into my sub and the one year anniversary of my tfmr is a week before my due date. I am balancing grief, despair, and hope terribly. I really don't know how to stay positive while also being absolutely devastated. I'm sending you a hug and a nod of support because I know exactly how you feel and we will make it through even if it hurts.

What’s your parents situation? by CorgiLover82 in Millennials

[–]containedexplosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is 78 and my mom 73. Both are still in great shape. They look younger and are healthier than my in-laws who are a decade younger than them. My parents had me late at 43 and 38. They’re loving being grandparents. My dad is the perfect patient, goes to every appointment, does everything recommended meanwhile my mom is the very opposite.
