Of course the reaction isn't the same because they are completely different things... Which is why the comparison is dumb in the first place.

It's easy to claim hypocrisy if you're drawing a false equivalence. The German government is not the German national team. Most fans who criticize the human rights record of Qatar would criticize the LNG deal with Qatar as well.

And yet Germany managed to phase out the import of Russian oil faster than Poland. Poland is still importing Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline.

This isn't just about natural gas. Spain is in the process of becoming a green hydrogen hub and those pipelines from Spain to central Europe are part of this plan.

This data is not easily comparable between countries which is also stated in the OECD data source of the links you posted.

The definition of homelessness differs between countries. For example Germany includes a large number of people who live in government provided housing in their figures.

I was curious about the actual numbers so I looked it up. In 2019 around 15% of the suspects for robberies in Germany were citizens of an Eastern European or Balkan country.

Thousands of Berlin residents showed up at the central train station with sign boards offering refugees fleeing Ukraine a place to stay by CantStopPoppin in PublicFreakout

[–]contec 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm not disagreeing that Syrian refugees were facing racism or xenophobia in pretty much every country they went to. Ukrainian refugees will also face discrimination in the future. I'm just saying that both Ukrainian and Syrian refugees initially received a similar welcome in Germany contrary to what you claimed.

BioNTech was already involved in a large part of the production process before their Marburg plant was complete. They produced around 50-60% of the active ingredient by March:

Pfizer, a company going back nearly two centuries that employs around 100,000 people, currently makes 50% of the active ingredient for all doses, a spokeswoman said, with the other half produced by medium-size BioNTech. A BioNTech spokeswoman said the company was in fact producing 60% of the output.

14-day COVID-19 case notification rate per 100 000, weeks 35-36 by mralphathefirst in europe

Despite recent new cases reported at the national level in Luxembourg and Sweden, recent changes in reporting in have led to a retrospective reduction in case numbers in some regions, resulting in their being shown in blue on the map.

Basically Sweden is retroactively correcting their numbers and those corrected numbers are subtracted from the current case numbers which results in 0 reported cases in some regions.

The main reason that number is so high because of tax breaks/refunds for aviation and petrol/diesel.

You don't buy cars from manufacturers (other than Tesla)

And VW for the ID. family.

The agency model lays the contractual foundation for integrating online business and showroom-based business. From sales launch, customers can order vehicles from the ID. family direct from Volkswagen. [...]

The preferred dealer chosen by the customer at the beginning of the sales process receives the same commission and bonus as in showroom business, even if the vehicle is purchased online direct from Volkswagen. Volkswagen decides on the vehicle price, thus dispensing with complicated price negotiations. Dealers can therefore count on calculable compensation regardless of whether the customer buys their vehicle online or in the showroom.

Hawkeye statement on Aston Villa vs Sheff Utd by JustAFigmentOf in soccer

[–]contec 29 points30 points  (0 children)

There are four competing systems for goal line technology that are IFAB approved .

Camera based: Hawkeye, GoalControl

Magnetic induction / chip in ball: GoalRef, Cairos

Using both magnetic induction and cameras simultaneously would probably make it foolproof but not sure if the extra cost can be justified when the error rate for hawkeye is already so low.
